    TCL 55US57 backlights, no picture.

So here we go with another screen short TCL. For this exercise left and right will be reference looking at the screen.

The person I got this TV from said the color was bad in a vertical fashion about 1/4 of the way over the left side of the screen. Shortly after the symptoms below started.

Power Supply, main and T-CON board are working.

Symptoms: The TV has backlights but no picture with both FFC's attached to the T-CON and does not respond to the remote or buttons, and the TV appears to continuously re-boot.

Unhook FFC from left side of the T-CON and I get half a picture upon the right side, sound, response to remote and buttons but no picture upon the left side. The left 10% of the screen has a rainbow appearance, from there the screen is dark to the left 25% of the screen and white on the rest of the left side to the centerline.

While the right side has a picture, from the centerline the right 50% of the picture is darker then the rest of the right side of the screen. This appears to indicate the short on the left side of the screen is affecting the right side of the screen.

As seen in picture #2, if I use the tape cut-off method on the terminals in the yellow box and attach both FFC's to the T-CON the TV will turn on with a picture on the right and a black screen on the left.

None of the capacitors upon the left side source driver board appear to be short.

Test point VGH shows 135 ohms resistance to chassis

See pictures 3, 4 and 5. Several resistors upon the left source driver board indicate short. They are too small to see a value printed upon them.

Ordinarily I'd start plucking resistors off the board until the short disappears but before I do I'd like to see if anyone thinks I've missed anything (like a bad COF tab) or if there's further testing I should do? I'm inclined to start with the resistor bank where the previous owner saw the discoloration on the screen near the third COF tab from the left.

NOTE: The last 2 pictures are with the TV upside down

what the heck happen in picture 5 to the tab bond area... it looks damaged from some sort of rubbing event? There are lots of labelled voltages "points" on the boards... are they similar for each side of the panel? "dry resistance measurements" (ie not powered) might confirm some more of what you have done in terms of locating bad "tracks" associated with the tab(s).

I'm pretty sure that's an artifact of photography, in-person there is no damage to the tab bonds I can see. I saw that in the picture after I took it which made me check it before I posted.

KDL-70R550A Peeled off LCD Tabs on left side and perfect picture for 5 minutes
        by Davidhames
        Hi Guys,

Thought I might try and seek advice on an issue I am having, I got this SONY tv for free that was having some dark greenish colouring, I replaced the T-CON and too my suprise the TV would not boot - I would get 5 blinking red LED lights. I dug deeper into this forum and someone mentioned the fact that it might be the tabs that connect to the LDC panel, and peeling them off should bring back a clear image. I tried this on the side of the T-con that was causing the tv to not boot when plugged in (left) and wow a perfect picture and was booting up fine! All was well and good...

T-con suspect issue. Both ribbon cables no picture. One ribbon cable ok. (58pus8545)
        by Tr0ll
Hi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.

The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.

        Original T-con:
Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.

        First replacement T-con:

I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)...

A2442 MacBook Pro 14" Two Left SIDE USB C ports charge but no data
        by Stephen
Right SIDE usb.c port charges and transfers data without issue, two left side uSB c ports charge but do not receive or see data. Was liquid damaged, and repaired significantly and thought we were in the clear but appears this is the last issue that is rearing its head. I am trying to locate the RETIMER chip that communicates the DATA TX/RX but I cannot seem to find it on the schematic or maybe I am just so tired my eyes wore out lol. Any help would be great.

        LG UH8500 Backlight Troubleshooting Help
        by htv239
        Hello,

I am currently troubleshooting an LG 60UH8500 TV (2016 TV). Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Overall Issue: When TV is turned on, backlights all come on for about 10 seconds, then all go out. There is sound and there is a picture on the display (obviously hard to see without backlights, but it is there).

What I Have Done So Far: 1) Removed the back TV cover to expose the boards (Power Supply, Tcon, and Main), 2) blew out any dust and cleaned all connections, 3) Noticed that the LED backlights are fed from two separate connectors...

No picture ,tv appears to turn on and off using remote as standby led goes from red to nothing when on and red again when off
. Backlights also light up when tv is powered on.
Removing panel ribbon cable from left side screen still dark.
Removing panel ribbon cable from right side the right panel is white and left panel is dark but within a few seconds the left panel has a large green vertical bar and beside it many thin red lines. This whole screen dims down to dark within a few seconds and the right side slowly turns white again.
        . Tcon gets 12 volt
        . Tried taping...
