Re: Fixed a ViewSonic N3260w
results: a small amount of magic smoke can out of an unseen part. couldn't ID which one and nothing was hot to the touch by the time i took power off. now i don't have any power on CNS1 once again.
i really wish i had a schematic for this...

it threw me off. replaced it with a fmmt593 for the time being - will post results when i get home and test it out.Leave a comment:

Looks like mistake. The one I got from Fairchild site is dated July 2014.Leave a comment:

ok. weird. i have the same datasheet with different signs!Attached FilesLeave a comment:

Re: Fixed a ViewSonic N3260w
yes, but why does it say -200ma where the 4403 says +600ma? and why is Vce -40v where the 4403 says +40v? that's what confuses me.Leave a comment:

Re: Fixed a ViewSonic N3260w
It can only handle 200mA, You can use it for testing for now.Leave a comment:

Re: Fixed a ViewSonic N3260w
pretty much all of the pnp transistors that i have found laying around are similar to this.Attached FilesLeave a comment:

Re: Fixed a ViewSonic N3260w
Just a plain PNP, nothing special. Vceo 40V rating, 600mA Ic, beta 100.
"the 4403 is an oddball pnp with positive vbias characteristics? all my pnp parts seem to be negative. am i missing something here?" I do not understand.Attached FilesLast edited by budm; 09-30-2014, 09:42 AM.Leave a comment:

Re: Fixed a ViewSonic N3260w
so, based on my random sampling of parts, the 4403 is an oddball pnp with positive vbias characteristics? all my pnp parts seem to be negative. am i missing something here?Leave a comment:

Re: Fixed a ViewSonic N3260w
That is correct, it is 2N4403 PNP transistor.Leave a comment:

Re: Fixed a ViewSonic N3260w
looked at q11 under the scope today and it has a marking "2T" on the top. i think that this would make it a fairchild mmbt4403. which has different on characteristics than most of the other PNP transistors that i have laying around. going to have to order this part....Leave a comment:

Re: Fixed a ViewSonic N3260w
You can pop in another PNP will be the easiest.Leave a comment:

Re: Fixed a ViewSonic N3260w
Is it necessary to do that since there is no voltage on q11 collector? I'll check it tomorrow, but it seems like no voltage on output is a good failure indicator. What are your thoughts?Leave a comment:

Re: Fixed a ViewSonic N3260w
It should be around 0.6~0.7V for it to bias on and will let the current to flow through to the Collector to supply the VCC to the PFC IC.
So do the diode test on that transistor, it is PNP from the way it has Emitter connected to the + Voltage source.Leave a comment:

Re: Fixed a ViewSonic N3260w
not sure what you mean... you want me to probe the base and emitter on q11 to see if there is a difference in potential?
if that is what you mean, there is about 1vdc drop across base-emitter.Last edited by 12rounds; 09-29-2014, 06:36 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Fixed a ViewSonic N3260w
Lets measure the Base-Emitter junction DC voltage first to see if it is being bias on or not, make sure the PS_ON is still present.Leave a comment:

Re: Fixed a ViewSonic N3260w
OK, then Emitter should have the same DC Voltage as the Emitter of Q7.Leave a comment:

by m1ch43lzmHi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic... -
Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....-

by HakuuHi There,
This TV was auto switching off after few seconds with some vertical lines on the screen, so got a new TCON board and replaced it.
After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.

by SoulzinkHi everyone,
I am trying to fix a samsung washinmachine power supply main board.
I already replaced it with another one to fix the machine but i want to try understand the issue with the old board.
Therefore i hope to be able to get some help to explain what to check in order to troubleshoot.
The power supply board reference is the following: DC41-00189a
