    Logik L40DIGB20 inverter SSI 400 14A0

    Hi. Sorry if I have posted this twice, the first thread showed an envelope with a return arrow, leading me to think I'd tried to post too soon after my introductory post. Secondly I apologise if I break any forum rules/manners, as I'm new here. I've used badcaps for advice in the past, but I've only just joined. I'm self taught, so I don't have anywhere near the knowledge that some of you guys have, but I can only hope to keep learning and get there one day.
    Anyway, I've been working on a TV recently. It's the one listed in the title. Logik L40DIGB20. It powers on fine, with the standby light turning blue as it should. The backlight turns on for a second, then goes off. Using a flashlight, I can see an image on the screen. The power supply is fine, and the inverter board is getting its 24v. From previous threads on the inverter board (SSI_400_14A0), I've heard that these boards have issues with the AO4614 mosfets failing. On the underside of the board, there is an obvious hotspot under one of the fets, however none test as shorted. The SMD fuses show continuity, the transformers all show the same Ohm reading and do not test open circuit. The Ccfl bulbs seem to light with some only glowing half way along, before turning off...as if they're not getting enough power. The electrolytic caps are all fine, not shorted and voltages seem good on test. I've heard on here that the soldering on the '000' jumpers sometimes need touching up, so I've done all of them again, adding extra solder. The main chip SEM2107 is receiving power to VCC pin. I've tried swapping bulbs around to see if it was a bad bulb, as one bulb glowed a red colour...but in the new location, it lit up half way.
    If anyone could help me out, I'd really appreciate it. I'd buy a new inverter board, but without being sure that's the true issue, the cost of repair would begin to outweigh the Tv's value.

    It sounds from what you have written that you have a failed CCFL tube.

      Any advice I get, I'm very grateful for, so thank you. I was beginning to think it might be a tube...so I got another 40" tv that has a Samsung screen/backlight assembly/ccfl backlight...but typical of my luck, the ccfl tubes are slightly thinner!!! Do you think I'd end up blowing them if I replaced them all of the ones I'm posting about with these thinner diameter ones?

          TV with bad inverter or ccfl tube is a 40" logik L40DIGB20. It has a Samsung LTA400HA07 screen assembly with 14 ccfl tubes inside.
          The donor TV is a Samsung Le40m87bdx/cry. It has a Samsung LTA400HT-L06 screen assembly which has 20 ccfl tubes inside, but these are slightly thinner, but same length of course.
          After trying everything with the L40DIGB20 inverter board, (as per original post) I had the idea of trying to replace all of the ccfl tubes just on a whim, as I had the Samsung Le40m87bdx as parts, so didn't spend anything.
          The inverter boards on both TVs are very different though, leading me to be a bit dubious about trying the tubes. The L40DIGB20 supplies 24V from its power supply, to 4 high voltage transformers on the SSi 400 14a0 inverter board. The Le40m87bdx power board had a high voltage transformer built in to its power supply, with 2 high voltage leads (too high for my equipment to test) which go to its inverter board and 20 very small transformers. 2 very different arrangements leading me to think the tubes are going to be very different watts. Hence why I love forums like this, because where all this is concerned, I'm open to any advice no matter how small.

            I have used a CCFL tube from a different set successfully. The first one I tried did not work but a second tube from another set worked well.
            Willing to help but I'm no expert.

              That's reassuring. I'm pretty sure I'm going to try it, because both Tvs were donated to me friends saying "can you use these for something?". I'll let you know what happens! Thanks again mate.

                Hello again mate. Changed 2 tubes. They work. Now all tubes light fully all the way across, but then they all go out again light before. Leading me to think it's def the ssi-400-14a01 inverter panel. Somethings causing the control chip on that inverter board to shut down after starting. Any ideas?

                  The position in which the original tube was positioned which was lighting only half way; can you trace it back to the transformer it was connected to and look on the underside of the board to see if it is discoloured.

                    The board below one transformer...maybe the one leading to the tube (I'll check after work) does show slight discolouration, but the worst discolouration (light brown, not burned) is underneath an AO4614 mosfet...which leads to that particular transformer...yet is doesn't test shorted. I must admit, I've only tested the transformer's resistance in circuit to compare it to the other 3 transformers on the inverter board. Kinda quick check to make sure it wasn't OL. It reads the exact same as the other 3, so maybe wrongly assumed it was OK. Thanks again mate for this help.

                      Just to let you know mate, I checked the inverter board one last time with a fine toothed comb, and found one jumper that I hadn't resoldered. I checked its track for continuity and there was none. I resoldered it and to my absolute shock...and joy of course, it works! All it turned out to be was a tiny smd jumper.                             After replacing the 2 tubes alone, it still didn't function properly and stay lit, but once the bad jumper joint was found, all tubes (including the 2 I'd replaced) stayed on. So the first thing I thought was "put the original tubes back in"...but it again didn't work. So I think it was both problems combined. Maybe the bad jumper caused the tubes to fail. All good now though.
