Re: LG OLED 55EC930V Horizontal flashing lines problems
vertical bands appear only when ribbon cable swapped or T-CON driver boards or some time MB replaced.. this all happen of changing the resistances of ribbon gate. to bring them back only by calibration equipment, which are expensive more than new TV for private user.

Re: LG OLED 55EC930V Horizontal flashing lines problems
Finally I found the damaged component. Is a Micron eMMC 8GB memory next to the FPGA named U698, (41A18 JWA07 NAND MTFC8GLDEA-1M WT) responsible of storing the basic OSD (volume control, source info, ecc..) and unfortunately, the screen factory calibration. Replacing it with an identical component of a donor board, works but the screen vertical lines remains. So no definitive fix for now.
The only way that pass in my mind, is to read both the original and the donor board NANDs, find the location of the screen calibration by comparing the two, and then flash the new one with a custom merged ROM.
If someone have some knowledge in this matter and want to help... thank you!Last edited by maxino; 07-25-2020, 08:03 AM.Leave a comment:

Re: LG OLED 55EC930V Horizontal flashing lines problems
But after 6 compensation, no improvement, so yes, no fix for it, I'll try to do a reballing of the old TCON but I think the problem can be a FPGA silicon fault, so we'll see... Billys told me also his set have the same issue. Sure the TCON "is" the problem, sure you get something to watch at, but replacing it will never restore the set to it's max.
PS: I had search a lot for the VCON adjustment but on this TV there's nothing like that, even if the service manual for this model says it, what I read in the top left corner of the spreadsheet is LCD TV, in my humble opinion is a mistake.Last edited by maxino; 05-06-2020, 12:10 PM.Leave a comment:

Yep, the banding is a known issue that is worse on the older OLED's, no fix for it.Leave a comment:

Vcom may be in the service menu
Here is what it's about

Re: LG OLED 55EC930V Horizontal flashing lines problems
Since after 3 compensation cycles (12h of viewing in total, checked the number inside IN_START) the panel still shows some vertical bands, though I see sort of improvement, I can't find how to force a deep pixel compensation on this model (please help if you know how) I also checked the service manual. It says to do VCOM adjust after replacing the T-COM (please see attached extract).
So do you know what the VCOM is exactly? Is maybe a voltage measurement? Can do the VCOM be responsible of these vertical lines?
PS: I'm sure is not a panel problem, it was without any banding before the original tcom failure.

Re: LG OLED 55EC930V Horizontal flashing lines problems
Just a small update, I solved the NETFLIX won't to play anything because an "the content cannot be played right now" error. What I suppose to be an HDCP chain inconsistency, and I was right.
What I found, the TCON replacement (called MICOM in the IN_START menu) has an old firmware version, precisely the V3.00.1. This firmware is supposed to show and give a basic interactive interface in the meantime the real firmware boots into main board.
I notice after replacing the TCOM, the boot menus was "old style" (see some post above), and I recall I show this when I bought the TV first time in 2014. For eg. when you press the "smart/home" button on the remote, the message "the smart menu will be available shortly", well this message comes from the TCON not from the Main board.
In order to force the TCON firmware upgrade, you have to do an "Online" downgrade to FW V3.23.6 with a fake DNS called LGDTVupdater from our great Russian friends (running on windows)
The good thing is that the FW code itself comes from LG directly, you don't need the FW code, just a "hook" file.
After that, doing an IN_STOP will reset all the settings to factory defaults, at this point is enough to configure the WIFI / LAN, and let the TV do the updates by itself.
Magically the MICOM firmware will also be updated to the V3.00.7 and the HDCP chain restored. So enjoy NETFLIX again!
This is not an easy way to solve the issue. If someone will be really interested eventually, I could write a more in deep details guide. Let me know.Last edited by maxino; 05-06-2020, 03:17 AM.Leave a comment:

Re: LG OLED 55EC930V Horizontal flashing lines problems
Sorry, before doing anything stupid, just to be sure, you mean:
1. Reballing the FPGA (BGA) ARRIA chip (the one with a metal cap)
2. Reballing the RAM (the 4 chips around the FPGA)
1 or 2? Thanks
PS: playing movies, using HDMI ports, all is working 100%, now I'm running some movies waiting for pixel resynch, tryed the EZ-ADJUST pattern but it doesn't remove the image retention stored in the TCON.Leave a comment:

Re: LG OLED 55EC930V Horizontal flashing lines problems
yep it look good.. as its just did compensation 1, when the count come high it will clear it more.. the effect as billsy caused by removing the ribbon cable. it will disappear later..
i would say dont touched it any more or doing any to the firmware.. always if you want to refresh the firmware and clear TEMP of using.. IN_STOP always the only answer.Leave a comment:

Re: LG OLED 55EC930V Horizontal flashing lines problems
BTW, emblems almost vanished, no solarization and no color banding so I'm already happier than before
Pictures Below (please note the moiré effect does not come from the TV)
So have I to wait for a second compensation, so it will eventually make the image even better?
Please also find IN_START and EZ_ADJUST pictures below.
The Firmware problem still remains, but at least the TV is "usable", I'll try to reflash the same firmware next days.Leave a comment:

Tried to downgrade the FW with LGDTVUPDATER but it doesn't work, please look at the attached pictures.

Re: LG OLED 55EC930V Horizontal flashing lines problems
BGA if you did to the ARRIA FPGA then dont do any more right now.. focus on the RAMs BGA..
now you are not at serious problem. replacement T-CON we don't know anythings about its condition.. as i wrote before you can try playing movies .. picture from usb... youtube... and also you have one color pattern at service menu E-Z adjust. forcing the set to play different pixel rate.. could solve it..in case t-con okay.

Re: LG OLED 55EC930V Horizontal flashing lines problems
Ok thank you very much, is it possible that doing a BGA reballing of the ARRIA FPGA, see picture on the firs post, on my old TCON, will probably fix the issue? Or could be a different smd component that causes the issue? (already tried reflowing the board at 160°C with a preheating station, then 2 minutes of 250°C hot air station on the FPGA only, same issue, so a reballing will be the next step, but I dont have the tools, yetLeave a comment:

Re: LG OLED 55EC930V Horizontal flashing lines problems
schedule at next start... you have such at setting menu.
about firmware refesh or downgrade.. there are working around LG downgrade server.. google it we was using it with LG LED 3d set like LA series. the idea of it to run it on pc and connect the LG via LAN to the pc and give gateway and ip to the set network setting to think it connected to LG server to allow downgrade or download firmware from the PC server..
if this all didnt help.. try your original T-CON again.. if same old problem... then you can reheat the main processor on it... it could have BGA.. you will not lost as you have now replacement one.Leave a comment:

Re: LG OLED 55EC930V Horizontal flashing lines problems
05.05.70 are the last version of this set firmware.
T-CON ram saved part of panel driver and refresh rate, this will be reset at IN-STOP and you did it already.
as mmartel wrote. this behavior could be corrected by time or via build in pixel scan at setting.
it help too to use build in player to play movies.. or test jpg pictures with one color, also play YouTube on the set.
Thank youLeave a comment:

Re: LG OLED 55EC930V Horizontal flashing lines problems
Unfortunately, the TCON did not refresh by itself, but as per LG website, the screen do a pixel compensation every 4 hours of use (when then you put the set in Stand by). BTW, I have another issue here, it seems the firmware have something wrong, I never saw a volume indicator like this one, also the loading screens are very strange (see pictures) is there any way to force a firmware update? The set is connected to the internet but it does not show any available update (current FW 5.05.70), so part of the firmware is stored inside the TCON!?!?Leave a comment:

by VilliagerI am in the jungle visiting family and I always try to fix all their electronics while I am here
A few years ago I gave a family a TCL LED55P65US tv, and now i am back and it is having some issues.
There are constant, shifting horrizontal lines across the screen and the screen flashes every 1.5 seconds or so, as seen in the attached gif.
Ive been through a few troubleshooting steps and no luck so far.
Does this seem like a possible T-Con board issue or does this seem unrepairable? The tv has been in a high heat and high humidity area, and the...1 Photo04-02-2024, 01:36 AM -
by IhandyrepairHi guys
I just started fixing 4k TV few months ago. so I am still learning a lot
I got this tv from friend complaint is ghosting or horizontal lines on image.
never saw the original symptom but I took the tv back home. the funny part is that after bringing to home, the tv worked fine no issue for 3 weeks.
then it started to show the ghosting white image.
I started using the tape method, but this tv does not have a T con board and it has only 1 ribbon cable from main board to the tv panel.
it has 3 thin small boards at the bottom of the... -
by ggil44Hi, I have a Sony XBR-65X750D that has horizontal lines at the bottom 6 inches of the screen. These lines appear to be every other line because the picture is still quite visible behind those lines. The lines appear all the time with a few other lines above and below the 6 inch level blinking on and off at about 2 second intervals. I'm not sure if this is a panel issue or power supply/main board problem. I did replace the T-Con board without any change in the problem. Any suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

by noisykid5.5 year old 85 inch Sony Bravia X950G started showing gray horizontal lines across the bottom of the screen and the picture shifts slightly vertically when it happens. The lines sometimes get bigger/smaller vertically and bounce back. See the video for the problem. It seems to be happening after it warms up after an hour or so. Happens regardless of source. Right now there's nothing but power cable connected and it's happening. We did hook up a new Nintendo Switch to our HDMI switching receiver today, and played for a while with no issues, but this problem didn't occur til a few hours later while...

by x_orange90_xI just acquired this 3D LED yesterday and it has horizontal lines on a little more than half of the screen. When I first turn it on it has thin black lines going across that makes the image look serrated, and then shortly after patterns of thicker red lines fade in. If I turn it off and right back on it will reset to just the black lines and the red will again fade onto the screen.
I initially thought tab bonds, but flexing the bezel makes no difference, and the fact the image sort of resets after cycling power is different. I haven't opened it up yet to actually test applying... - Loading...
