• Re: LG OLED 55EC930V Horizontal flashing lines problems

unfortunately the original eMMC is readable, but data corrupted, so it's impossible to copy between them, I checked both with HEX editor, and the data is organized in a different way, so is not the memory itself, is memory controller that is addressing data in a wrong way, the original one data seems to be shifted up. Since I got the vertical bands too, I wanted to try the latest version of that TCON, see picture attached:

new version

What I found, is the new TCON and the old TCON eMMC contains almost same data, comparison was not easy, but data on the original is shifted up, it means the memory controller inside the eMMC is the real problem, it allocates memory in a bad way. So is IMHO impossible to recover original panel compensation and copy it, because part of the data are outside visible range coz badly allocated by the eMMC. Is clearly a Micron eMMC problem due to a bad chip sorting during production. What is "funny" is that...

Is an eMMC to SD converter, since both uses the same pinout, is a very simple piece of hardware, the only thing that costs is the socket. With a WinHEX or similar software you can compare both images (donor board and original board eMMCs) and find the differences so "in theory" the compensation pattern, if not damaged, merge the images, and reflash it to a new eMMC.

You mean the EZ_ADJ menu? BTW I have to remove the faulty eMMC first, since with that one I can see only the lower part of the image. Before doing that I have to study the right Programmer and/or find a way to program the eMMC on board....

In attachment the Wav to IR files with my notes.

This TV unfortunately does not use VCOM, I'm unsure if its a general OLED rule.

About the FPGA, I tested the surface for temperature spikes that could eventually stress the solder lead free balls. For me, this Arria does not produce enough heat, I also removed it from the old TCON, LG in this case made a great job, the FPGA has a plenty of lead solder! Then after a proper reballing I resoldered it, the problem came out exactly as before. So I moved...

Yes, horrible, they clearly pushed an early prototype tech to the masses just to be the first, otherwise why the TCON have an Altera(now Intel) programmable FPGA chip(!?) and a big eMMC memory like that? Clearly to compensate an un-optimized screens production line, where every screen came out with unique defects that have to be forcibly compensated by a custom by-zone calibration stored into an eMMC... almost unbelievable. Not counting the price payed for the set itself...

The IN-STOP was sent with...

Sorry but I have to desagree please see attachments on my previous post here:

these bands shows with a new TCON. When LG replaces an OLED panel, the kit came with a TCON altready installed on the panel, probably because the TCON is custom calibrated only with that OLED panel.
When I soldered the old TCON eMMC on the new one, the TV showed exactly the same behavior as I opened the topic, so it is clear...

• Re: LG OLED 55EC930V Horizontal flashing lines problems

Finally I found the damaged component. Is a Micron eMMC 8GB memory next to the FPGA named U698, (41A18 JWA07 NAND MTFC8GLDEA-1M WT) responsible of storing the basic OSD (volume control, source info, ecc..) and unfortunately, the screen factory calibration. Replacing it with an identical component of a donor board, works but the screen vertical lines remains. So no definitive fix for now.
The only way that pass in my mind, is to read both the original and the donor board NANDs, find the location of the screen calibration...

Thank you for your help. I found how to force the pixel compensation at every shutdown, just put 0 into IN_START/OLED/Compensation (instead of 4, means 4 hours)

But after 6 compensation, no improvement, so yes, no fix for it, I'll try to do a reballing of the old TCON but I think the problem can be a FPGA silicon fault, so we'll see... Billys told me also his set have the same issue. Sure the TCON "is" the problem, sure you get something to watch at, but replacing it will never...

• Re: LG OLED 55EC930V Horizontal flashing lines problems

Since after 3 compensation cycles (12h of viewing in total, checked the number inside IN_START) the panel still shows some vertical bands, though I see sort of improvement, I can't find how to force a deep pixel compensation on this model (please help if you know how) I also checked the service manual. It says to do VCOM adjust after replacing the T-COM (please see attached extract).

So do you know what the VCOM is exactly? Is maybe a voltage measurement? Can do the VCOM be responsible of these vertical lines?...

Just a small update, I solved the NETFLIX won't to play anything because an "the content cannot be played right now" error. What I suppose to be an HDCP chain inconsistency, and I was right.

What I found, the TCON replacement (called MICOM in the IN_START menu) has an old firmware version, precisely the V3.00.1. This firmware is supposed to show and give a basic interactive interface in the meantime the real firmware boots into main board.

I notice after replacing the TCOM, the boot...

So thank you for your patience, after 4 hours of random viewing, the TV did the pixel compensation as you described, the picture is finally better than before, some persistent vertical lines are there, almost same behavior as Billsy here https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpost.php?p=880934&postcount=53

BTW, emblems almost vanished, no solarization and no color banding so I'm already happier...

Tried to downgrade the FW with LGDTVUPDATER but it doesn't work, please look at the attached pictures.

Now I'll try with the tool NSU Emu by SMX

Sorry, before doing anything stupid, just to be sure, you mean:
1. Reballing the FPGA (BGA) ARRIA chip (the one with a metal cap)
2. Reballing the RAM (the 4 chips around the FPGA)

1 or 2? Thanks

PS: playing movies, using HDMI ports, all is working 100%, now I'm running some movies waiting for pixel resynch, tryed the EZ-ADJUST pattern but it doesn't remove the image retention stored in the TCON....

Ok thank you very much, is it possible that doing a BGA reballing of the ARRIA FPGA, see picture on the firs post, on my old TCON, will probably fix the issue? Or could be a different smd component that causes the issue? (already tried reflowing the board at 160°C with a preheating station, then 2 minutes of 250°C hot air station on the FPGA only, same issue, so a reballing will be the next step, but I dont have the tools, yet

Unfortunately, the TCON did not refresh by itself, but as per LG website, the screen do a pixel compensation every 4 hours of use (when then you put the set in Stand by). BTW, I have another issue here, it seems the firmware have something wrong, I never saw a volume indicator like this one, also the loading screens are very strange (see pictures) is there any way to force a firmware update? The set is connected to the internet but it does not show any available update (current FW 5.05.70), so part of the firmware is stored...

Good news and unfortunately bad news, today I replaced the TCON board with a refurbished one, the picture now is almost everywhere lit at high "OLED light" settings (Standard value is 60), but at normal viewing light (set 10-30) the screen shows a very strange behaviour! In the upper left corner, I see something strange, an "a" that in my opinion is a part of a TV emblem. The rest of the image especially at the bottom is faded out a lot.

Just to clarify, this TV was never used with...

Thank you Diah to set in!
So I downloaded the SMPS testing procedure since was mentioned in the original post, but I have a lot to study at this point, believe me I'm little scared but I'll do my best to figure out what to do. I'll post an update ASAP.

PS: about the Raspberry... I tried to send IN_STOP but it doesn't work at all (or maybe there is a dialog box I can't see). Have I to send it when the set is ON or in Stand-by? (The file POWER_ONLY.wav works) Does the reset button on Main...
