Panasonic TC-P65ST50 plasma vertical black section repairable?

    Hello,

I've acquired a 65" Panasonic TC-P65ST50 for free from someone while purchasing another TV for repair from them. I've repaired ~10 LCD TVs over the years with decent success, and I enjoy doing it. However this is my first attempt at a plasma, and I'm treading carefully.

The TV when I got it would power up, however the left ~5 inches of the display was entirely black, basically like a letterbox image would appear. I disassembled, looked up some info, and determined that it was likely either dirty/loose connectors between the panel and the C buffer boards (I think is the name of them?). Cleaning these and reseating the ribbon cables had no effect in resolving the problem.

During this process, I always unplugged the TV and hit the power button several times to drain power before doing any ribbon connections on/off. On one occasion, I must not have fully drained power or waited sufficiently and when connecting the ribbon immediately adjacent to the power area, saw the very smallest of electrical sparks on the buffer board when attaching the panel ribbon. After that point, approximately the left 10" of the display are now all black .

I purchased a replacement buffer board on eBay, swapped it, connected it all up, and the symptoms are exactly identical. no difference when swapping boards in any way. As such, I returned the replacement board.

When the ribbon cables in that area are unplugged, that section of the panel is just snowy white static (if my memory serves me, it's been a month or so). When plugged in, it is solid black, no noise/colors/lines in the black area at all. Is this an issue with the main input board generating signal for the buffer boards? Have I damaged some sort of IC in the ribbon connector cables?

Would it be worth continuing to troubleshoot this set; can it still be repaired? Or is the panel damaged and time to just part it out to ebay and dispose of the unusable bits? As mentioned, I'm in this project to the tune of $0 so far, so if it's time to pull the plug, I still come out ahead parting out the TV.

I appreciate the help. I have access to a multimeter and an LED backlight driver/tester tool that is useful when troubleshooting LED tvs, which I have done various times. Please note that in the attached pictures, the TV is standing upside down on the bed where I was working on it.

You originally had one cof (chip on foil) bad, you now have 2 cof's bad. The panel would need to be replaced.

That's too bad. Time to part it out for ebay I suppose. Thanks for the feedback.

          Hi Evanroheff21
Just new to the forum and saw your recent post. I have a Panasonic plasma TH-P65ST60A, basically the same model and it has developed a black line in the centre of the panel which I think is caused by the C2 board at the base, its board number is TNPA5756. Have you had any success with your panel or any updates on this issue.

Again, looking at your pictures I would say it is either the 5755 or 5757 C1 or C3 board that is your problem. I'm not sure of the orientation of your pictures. Michael

It is not a problem on the "C" boards, they are just signal distribution boards, The problem is on the COF (ic is damaged)

                Panasonic plasma TX-P42ST50 - 6 blinks
                by jm1234
                Hi,
anyone able to provide the service manual for old plasma Panasonic TX-P42ST50E?
It turns off almost immediately (0~5 seconds after pressing the on/off button) and starts flashing the red diode 6 times.
I disconnected the left-hand side board (SC?, both the ribbon cable and the power cable to it) and also another ribbon going to bottom left board. Then the led signal is 8 flashes. According to service guide to another Panasonic plasma it would mean the left-hand side board is faulty. But I'm not sure it 100% applies to my model.
I checked that board for any obvious faults...

                Hi everyone!
I happened several times, in the search for help from the web, to consult this very interesting forum.
So I decided to sign up and I intend to participate actively by making available my knowledge and experience on the subject, I'm a new user but at the same time I'm old in the sense that I have 4 decades of experience in repairing and designing electronics but above all I'm a great passionate about the subject.

Having said that I come to the gist of my post on the forum as the title suggests.

Panasonic ZT60 plasma tv with strange behavior and 8 blink code
                by cloo
I recently got my hands on a 60" Panasonic P60ZT60 plasma tv (european model) that has some strange issues along with an 8 blink code.
It know this tv is getting old but it was once considered one of the best plasmas ever made, and i think it is still holds on to that even by todays standards.

So, long story short. When i first got the tv it had a very bright washed out picture with very raised blacks in all picture modes and i couldn't find the cause in the picture setting menus.
After doing a factory reset this problem was gone and the picture was back to...

Panasonic P42S30 Plasma - Pink sparkles
                by Lintesir
My parents' Panasonic P42S30 died recently, and they asked me to have a look at it. I was able to identify the SN-board as the culprit, as it was shorted. After removing Q401, Q402, Q421 and Q422 the short was gone, so I replaced these components and that got the TV working again. However, when testing the tv a bit, I noticed quite bad pinkish sparkles on some colors. For instance the greyish bar on this forum seems to trigger it quite badly. I made a fullscreen test picture with only that color, with the below result.

There is about a 5cm high region at the top without any sparkles,...

Dead Panasonic Viera TX-P65STW50 Plasma TV
                by badcappo
Hello, got a ST50 plasma TV for repair. No signs of life, not even blink codes. Opened it up to check the power supply, type MPF6914. Apparent issues from visual detection and measuring for shorts:
                Diode type G972s6 - D101 with a short
                Mosfet 06N90E - Q301 shorted
                Fuse T5AH 250V - F103 blown
                Diode D301 shorted
                Relay DG1U-17VDC II - RL001 blown

I have not found a circuit diagram. Maybe someone here already dealt with a similar issue? Thanks for tips where else to check 😀...
