LG 42LV5500 TV, Backlights on, No picture

    Good day guys

I picked this TV up from a friend.

When you switch the TV on, the backlights switch on, and stays on. However there is no picture. Sometimes a small band on the top of the TV can be observed, about 1cm thick, and when the Home button is pressed, you can see the band changing, suggesting a change in the item displayed.

My first thought were T-CON. I removed one of the bands going to the panel, and half of the screen lights up slightly, same result with other band removed. The voltage going to the T-CON however is only 10.02V. The T-CON fuse is functional. Voltages on both sides are 10.02V. Voltage at Mainboard LVDS connector is 10.02V (Ground probe on chassis)

I could confirm the voltages as per P201 exactly as in the legend on the PSU. 12V on PSU going to Mainboard reads 12.01V

Can someone please confirm my suspicion of a bad Mainboard, or can you suggest further tests I can do.

    Thanking you in advance

LV and LS series suffer from bga failures on the mainboard. Lots of repair services on ebay if you search.

It is very possible that the US1 integrated on the t-con may be defective.

          Hi guys

With reference to above posts, I unhook the LVDS cable from the T-CON. The Voltage reading on the Mainboard side of the LVDS cable is 11.63V.
Does this still suggest a bad Mainboard(these boards are very expensive)or can it be a faulty T-CON. The reading on the T_CON fuse is 10,02V.

Is 11.63V good enough to power the T-CON

Seems like if it's coming out of mainboard at 11.63 which is ok and ending up 10.02 at tcon, makes me think it's a tcon issue, maybe try unhook tcon from panel and see if it's still 10.02.

              Hi nomoresonys

I took voltages on the T-CON fuse with LVDS removed from panel. Still reads 10.02V. I'm going to replace the T-CON and see what happens.

              Thank you for the help

                    Hi guys

As per previous posts, I replaced the T-CON but with no change. The backlights does come on, and stays on, but no display. Am I looking at a bad Mainboard?

maybe another faulty t con board on the top of the tcon you have two ribbon cables if you disconnect on side and turn tv on whats shown on the screen? try the same thing on the other top ribbon cable

Sony KD-75XF9005 grey Picture but Sound. TCON or panel?
                        by iglitare
                        Hi,

i want to repair a Sony KD-75XF9005 TV that initially only showed a grey picture.
Backlight seems to work, Sound (Setup menu after reset) works.
If i dissconnect the left FFC cable from TCON to panel i have half a screen on the right. If left cable is connected always only the grey screen.
Interchanged the cables, its always only the right side that is working. Always grey if left side is connected.
With my small knowledge i would think at least the cables are good.

Can this happen because of a bad tcon board?
Or is it always a bad/shorted...

Samsung UE60KU6079 backlight okay mainboard responsive, no picture, no sound
                        by Ierwin
                        Hello everyone,
Ive got a UE60KU6079 on the workbench that is giving me some headaches trying to troubleshoot.
The previous owner stated that there had been white dots on the screen which from the description sounded like some lenses fell of the backlight LEDs.
He had opened the TV from the back, trying to get to the backlight, supposedly gave up, reassebled everything and gave the TV to me.
I expected the worst like ripped COF cables or a cracked panel but could not find anything like that yet.
Anyway I still fully expect that there has been something seriously damaged...

                        Hello all ~

Hope this finds you well. This LG 82UN8570AUD (April 2021 model) 4K UHD television has full audio capabilities but video is compromised / problematic.

When I picked up this large LG tv it had a full black screen upon startup. Previous owner said it just went black one day. No popping sound or anything else of note.

I got the display to work by taping off several traces of the right-hand side ribbon cable on the TCON that leads from TCON to PANEL. However, despite dozens and dozens of attempts to find the right combination / range of traces taped...

un60j620dafxza - Samsung No Display Problem
                        by stylishconsultant
                        Hi All,

                        Need help.

I have a samsung un60j620dafxza led tv. When I plug it in it has no display, no sounds, and no standby lights.

So I opened the tv and disconnected the power to the mainboard and the backlight powered up. This according to many people says that this is a mainboard
problem. I checked the voltage coming from the stb and I read 1.3 volts on pins 1,3,5 and 7 which are low volts instead of 13 volts which i think the lcd panel
might be drawing too much power from the power supply that it prevents the right voltage going to the mainboard....

So here we go with another screen short TCL. For this exercise left and right will be reference looking at the screen.

The person I got this TV from said the color was bad in a vertical fashion about 1/4 of the way over the left side of the screen. Shortly after the symptoms below started.

Power Supply, main and T-CON board are working.

Symptoms: The TV has backlights but no picture with both FFC's attached to the T-CON and does not respond to the remote or buttons, and the TV appears to continuously re-boot.

                        Unhook FFC from left side...
