samsung un55h7150 tab bond issue - fixed... almost!

howdy, i have a request to know where someone can buy new COF or tab bond ribbons? i purchased a used samsung un55h7150 with the story that the "audio worked but the screen just didnt show anything". i was like "hell yeah, i can slap a new led on the strip and have a perfectly good 3d top shelf tv for the price of peanuts".

well, i get it home and after bragging to the wife about my score, i plugged it in and turned it on and there were lines on both left and right side of the screen. i was mad, but hey thats karma, and usually before i buy a tv i plug it in and check it just for the heck of it. but this time i didnt, and it is always a risk buying tv's like that.

anyways, i got it disassembled and sure enough the tabs were the problem. when powering on, the 3rd tab from the right would get blazing hot to the touch and then the tv would turn off. id have to unplug it to get it to come back on. i got the bright idea to take a soldering iron and some heat resistant tape and i put the tape on the pcb side of the tab/cof/w.e it called right over the connections. i went over it a few times slightly slowly, working the solder iron back and forth over each connection trying not to let the iron sit in one spot for long. i got done the first time and noticed a drastic improvement but there was still lines.

so i went over it again, and this time a little slower. working it, multiple passes, making sure to heat it up good but not to much, paying very close attention to it. i got done and let it cool for a few mins and then turned on the tv and viola! it worked! i was purely amazed. the tv stayed on and everything. i was the tab bond king and noone couldnt tell me i wasnt a professional! i went into the living room and told my wife again, how good of a job i did on the tv then returned back to the room to see the tv shut back off. upon further inspection, the tab bond ribbon got so hot it melted a whole through it. i was in pure anguish. i couldnt believe it. i was so close to having an awesome top shelf 3d tv for the price of hardly nothing.

anyways, that brings me to the question. i am looking for some replacement tab bonds for this tv. the bottom side. if anyone has any idea where i can find them please let me know. i am certain i can fx this thing if i just had another ribbon/tab bond/COF. thanks in advance

edit: i have other tv's that are bad thats around the same size, would any of those TAB's/COF's work?

i had it fixed though. i witnessed no lines at all on that side of the screen. it was fixed aarrrgggggg! lol just a soldering iron and some heat resistant tape and calculated movement and patience. the next one i do i am going to attempt soldering it with some leaded solder.

but anyways, the cof or tab was severely overheating though and i think that is the problem to begin with, maybe the connection on the other side was weak and causing it to try to draw more power than it could handle. all of it could be laid to just bad tab bond connections i think because for that 1 min or so, it worked flawless lol. now the panel has lines everywhere but i know its that single cof/tab thats causing it. i think a panels chances of actually going bad are slim, most lines like this that come in over time are almost always related to the cof/tab bonds it seems. the glue releases over time and it looses connection partly or all together on that trace and causes a black line or multicolored line.

i just need to find out where to actually buy the ribbon or cof/tab or whatever its called. is there some manufacturer i can have make me some? does anyone know any information in regards to where to buy this kind of stuff?

but, where do i order them from? i looked at other panels and they all looked like the would have swapped out with each other, but the pitch on the cof/tabs on this samsung is a little wider and wouldnt work. if i can find one thats the same pitch, would it work? i think they have an ic on them do they not? would it have to be designed for this display or would it just "work"? any information that you know would be very useful to me. thanks

good news! i found the tab/cof's. part number is MT3214B-VC. you can google that part number and it will pull up a nice list of different suppliers. and i think im just going to solder the things on tbh unless someone knows where to get some good quality anisotropic conductive film thats better than the factories...

EDIT: i also found some t-tip solder attachments (with teflon tips) for my solder iron. if i use the anisotropic conductive film, the idea i have is to buy two t-tips, use one hot and the other leave cold, maybe even put it in the fridge for a few. ill put the tab in place and then heat up the COF/TAB nice and hot, then lift the iron off and immediately press it down with the cold t-tip in hopes it doesnt slip or move the ribbon at all. the only other choice is to solder it. it doesnt look that bad to solder tbh, just tin both sides and line it up and tack one side and then work your way across. you could even run the solder iron infront of the strip to melt the solder and let it "run" under the strip and just work your way across it like that too. anyways, any ideas would be appreciated. this is the first time im going to attempt something like this.

There's a bunch of diy tab fixing/replacing/rebonding on youtube, looks like some have had pretty good success, even without the very expensive machines.

Bonding to the LCD glass will be one of the hardest part.
