      Re: Old plasma help.

Still working on this TV a bit. Problem is not in the logic or main boards, and directly related to how hot the set is. Ive discovered that this panel has over 26 thousand hours on it via the service menus.. Pretty impressive if you ask me, but the problem *almost* goes away when the TV is hot, and I _believe_ its the panel itself that gets hot, and not any of the circuit boards, that causes the problem to virtually disappear.

Is it possible that the sparkly sections in dark areas could just be a worn panel? (sparkly only when darker colours are not a solid colour, solid single colours of any brightness are perfect)

Increasing the VA voltage makes it better, but I run out of adjustment space before I can dial it out completely.. Panel gets a bit brighter overall with the VA adjusted up.

I have had that experiences with older Samsung Plasmas. Feels like the panel just goes out of spec when they get up there in hours.

The older panels do get sparkly with age, I would keep the Va close to spec and not change in more than 1/2 volt either way, Vs can be varried a bit more but usually keep it to +-5 volts of spec. These pos hitachi never had any real adjustments like samsung/lg etc. On those you can adjust the set_up & set_dn to get a better picture.

Yes, panels are more prone to display "sparklies" as they age. Specifically, the sparklies are worse in areas that are more heavily worn (such as where a static image was displayed for long hours such as network channel logos or 4:3 letterbox or news tickers, etc). Sparklies are also often found in areas where you have bright image adjacent to dark image (such as dark clothing against bright white background, etc)

Older LG panels were particularly bad and had repair kits that advised complete replacement of ZSUS, YSUS and logic board with updated firmware.

R_J is correct - Sparklies get worse as age. Many LG panels I've worked on have VA and VS adjustments on power supply but also set_up & set_dn pots on YSUS. I've been able to get very good results cleaning up picture through those settings on older panels.

Never make these adjustments on cold TV.

Let TV panel warm up 15-20 minutes before adjusting picture quality since this is the normal operating condition of TV when you are watching it anyway.

              Samsung PS51E550 Plasma TV

              Hello,
I am having Samsung PS51E550 Plasma TV. While the TV was working, a crackling sound heard & video went off with audio still ON. After switching it off & ON, the red LED on TV blinks six times & then off.
Opened TV cover & observed foll
              a) Green LED on the small PCB blinks at @5-6sec ON & off for 3-4 secs. Red LED on logic board ON
b)Vs & Va on power supply board raises momentarily to 209v & 58v resp & then drops.
              c) Cold test on Y-main board shows all 3 pins of FGPF4536 IGBT short to Grnd.
How to confirm Y -Buffer board...

              Panasonic plasma TX-P42ST50 - 6 blinks
              by jm1234
              Hi,
anyone able to provide the service manual for old plasma Panasonic TX-P42ST50E?
It turns off almost immediately (0~5 seconds after pressing the on/off button) and starts flashing the red diode 6 times.
I disconnected the left-hand side board (SC?, both the ribbon cable and the power cable to it) and also another ribbon going to bottom left board. Then the led signal is 8 flashes. According to service guide to another Panasonic plasma it would mean the left-hand side board is faulty. But I'm not sure it 100% applies to my model.
I checked that board for any obvious faults...

Hitachi 55HDS69 55" Plasma TV - No Picture But Sound
              by KYBOSH
Picked up a bahemoth plasma TV not too long ago and just now getting around to looking at it.
No picture but you hear the TV static (white noise) playing loud and clear.
The back was already taken off (and no screws were provided) as the previous owner had already taken a look.
But it seems they didn't get too far and just left it.

When I first took a look I was amazed at how pristine the inside looked.
Its as if the TV had been in a time capsule.
Caps looked like they were just pulled off the self.
Copper coils had no sign of corrosion on...

Schematic or datasheet for Plasma TV buffer chip
              by Yanleb
              Hi all,

I'm interested in understanding how a buffer board chip is working. I know there's about 90 outputs per chip to the plasma panel, but I'm more interested to know about the input pins. I guess that some of them are address pins, but I want to know more.

So far I've found nothing at all. I haven't found any datasheet about the various buffer chips, and I haven't found any schematic for the buffer board using them (Y Buffer Board in Samsung's terminology).

Any information will make me happy. It can be from any buffer chip or plasma TV manufacturer....
