    Samsung UE32F5500 backlight goes out

Good day folks. It's been a while since I've done any repairs on a Samsung TV, but today a friend asked me to have a look at his after he exhausted every possibility within his realm of knowledge.

The problem is the backlight goes out at random...could very well be an LED on its way out, but the thing is I tried it with a different power supply (not identical, but matching both connectors) and it seems to work. I can't pinpoint the issue at all because sometimes it runs fine for hours, other times it goes out after a few seconds after startup.

PSU is a BN44-00605A. Having encountered a similar issue on a different model where the backlight doesn't work because of a capacitor, both me and my friend replaced the two caps responsible for the backlight output, C9102 and CM874, but that didn't solve the issue - same random cut-outs. I even replaced the wire harness between the panel and the LED output of the PSU and again, it almost appeared to work, but after an hour or so, same story. Picture remains on screen and the 5v and 12v also remain stable even when the light goes out. I'm still thinking there's an LED dying somewhere but the replacement PSU is not as sensitive or something...if I pull the panel off and test each LED independently, I'm sure they'll show up as good, as my friend did this himself...I'm not even sure where to start with this one....any ideas are greatly appreciated. My money is on a bad LED still....

I have found the LED connector used on the F model years flakey though I woul also suspect an intermittent LED.

Haha, that's my thread you referenced there - funny

So you're saying your problem was also LED-related and the PSU was fine (after you've fixed it the way I did, of course) ? Thing is I pushed, tapped and prodded on that connector all day and made no difference (unless maybe the cold joint is INSIDE the panel, just after the connector)

just turn the back lights waay down and see if the issue disappears. If the tv works fine, well you know then what the problem is.

That's another thing I noticed: with no signal present, it seems to work better (not perfect, but longer still). When I plug in a HDMI cable or whatever and the image tries to go bright, it almost always shuts off and starts the random on-off-on-off cycles...this is what fooled me into thinking I fixed the problem the first time around, because I just powered it up with no signal, saw the LEDs coming on and though "yep, that's it - fixed", but when I plugged the cable in it was the same old story...finding the bad LED is going to be tough...unless the chap wants to replace all 5 strings.

UPDATE: yep: dead LED at last....it was on its way out and today it died for good, since it no longer turned on AT ALL, making the job of identifying it much easier. Cheers guys.

                  Samsung QE82Q70RAT no backlight
                  by sansanpartida
                  Hi everyone!

Hope you're all having a great day, and thank you very much for stopping by and taking the time to read this post to help me with my parents' Samsung TV.

                  My issue: No backlight.

                  Model: QE82Q70RAT
                  Type No: QE82Q70RAT

The TV was already serviced by Samsung once under warranty for the exact same issue, but six months after the fix, the backlight went out again. Now, Samsung is asking for nearly the same price as a brand new TV to fix this with the same 6-month guarantee.

So hopefully, I can fix this cheaper.

Samsung UN55NU7300F Curved TV. Half side backlight out. Fixed by just removing the rear snap cover
                  by howardc64
TV was fixed just after removing Samsung's rear snap cover.

This curved TV's construction is rather interesting. When the snapped on back is removed, rest of the TV will relax the curvature. Top of LCD panel is loose as it wants to straighten out against the slightly curved bezel. Snapped back provide most of the curvature shape. So just simple disassembly of rear cover will allow the rest of the TV frame to relax its curvature. Thats probably what fixed it but no idea which connection. 4x LEDs are edge lit.

Maybe PSU->backlight connector didn't have a good contact?...

Samsung QN75Q6FNA backlight no display, red LED blink 2x, fault in panel

                  • Prior owner tried a replacement main board. No difference.
                  • Samsung 2x red blinking standby LED = panel fault
                  • Jumpered FB_TRDY_1 (pin 1 CN1300 left. main tcon->left side buffer boards) and FB_TRDY_3 (pin 95 CN1301 right. main tcon->right side buffer boards) This allows testing individual T-Con (on main board) connection to panel on this Samsung. Found fault on left side (viewing from rear of TV)
                  • Each side has 2 buffer boards, disconnected left side flex between 2 buffer boards. Fault is on the left most board.
                  • Tape masking eventually isolated to CN1300 pin 15 (CKV4_GOA) Display
