Good day folks. It's been a while since I've done any repairs on a Samsung TV, but today a friend asked me to have a look at his after he exhausted every possibility within his realm of knowledge.
The problem is the backlight goes out at random...could very well be an LED on its way out, but the thing is I tried it with a different power supply (not identical, but matching both connectors) and it seems to work. I can't pinpoint the issue at all because sometimes it runs fine for hours, other times it goes out after a few seconds after startup.
PSU is a BN44-00605A. Having encountered a similar issue on a different model where the backlight doesn't work because of a capacitor, both me and my friend replaced the two caps responsible for the backlight output, C9102 and CM874, but that didn't solve the issue - same random cut-outs. I even replaced the wire harness between the panel and the LED output of the PSU and again, it almost appeared to work, but after an hour or so, same story. Picture remains on screen and the 5v and 12v also remain stable even when the light goes out. I'm still thinking there's an LED dying somewhere but the replacement PSU is not as sensitive or something...if I pull the panel off and test each LED independently, I'm sure they'll show up as good, as my friend did this himself...I'm not even sure where to start with this one....any ideas are greatly appreciated. My money is on a bad LED still....
