Good day folks. Got this Philips POS TV which doesn't start. Actually it DOES start but has no picture and no backlight. No it's not a backlight issue because I tested the PSU separately and it works. It's most likely a software issue....and this being a Philips with their fancy ComPair junk box, it's unlikely to be fixable.
So: you plug the TV in, there's no LED coming on at the front, no sound, no backlight, no picture, however the remote makes the LED flash, so there is something going on, but no "brain" activity - just "low-level" reactions
I grabbed the service manual here and I proceeded to the error code list and how to get the board to display them, since there's no picture and no ComPair available (
): you solder a piece of wire from the "SDM" pad to GND and that activates the error codes via the LED at the front which now actually provides some usable information: code 53. I interpreted this by following the procedure described in the manual which is 5 slow blinks and then 3 rapid blinks, which is "MIPS doesn't boot (SW cause)". Unfortunately this could be a bad NAND as well (which I believe is the cause, since it's a fairly common occurrence on TVs nowadays: software doesn't just "brick" like that - the memory itself fails more often, like a memory stick, since I think it's the same thing fundamentally).
Couldn't really find how I'd go around reloading its software (provided of course everything's still OK physically) and even after the fact, I couldn't find a firmware for it....any ideas or is it going in the trash along with the other Philipsssses
? Cheers and thanks.
