Sharp LC-70LE660U - Sound, No picture, Picture for split second

Picked up a Sharp LC-70LE660U - was told backlight was out. After plugging in, the picture will display for a split second, then screen goes black. No blinking codes, sound works. Did not detect anything with flashlight test. Backlights are on initially - but then are off with the picture.

From the front of the tv, I disconnect each side of the tcon ribbon cable. When disconnecting the side controlling the left side of the display, the left side is all white, while the right side is displaying the picture.
However, if I disconnect the right side, I get a distorted picture.
Then with both tcon cables connected, the screen comes on for a split second, then goes black.

I then disconnected the farthest left driver board by disconnecting the ribbon cable between the driver board - and was able to get 75% of the screen to display.

Any other suggestions or recommendations? Bad panel? Should I remove the tab from the display?

Is this one with the circuit board along either side of the TV? if so, disconnect the left side at the bottom where it connects to the lower buffer boards (or whatever they are called).

See what happens then..? First glance, this seems like maybe the sharp/vizio bad panel... which would require removal of the tab bonds on problem side of the tv.... do your research before this step! Non-reversable. Fixed a 70" sharp this way however.

I do not see a full circuit board on either side of the TV, nor do I see a ribbon cable connecting the bottom boards to the side (bottom.jpg). I am looking just underneath the black metal bezel. Unless there is more disassembly required.

What I do see along the side are the bonded flexible with a chip embedded on it - do I just cut these off (side.jpg)?

        Thanks for your prompt response.

it appears that this model on has side tabs and opposed to edge boards and tabs.

Your "test" by disconnecting the "half" of the lower edge boards kind of shows the problem is on the disconnect end and maybe beyond (ie. tabs on that side).

One thing, the picture of the side tab that you posted appears to show "material" across some of the contacts near the panel edge.... is that just the picture or is there some sort of "contaminant" there? can you gently clean it... be very careful as that area is near the tab bond which can easily be disturbed and not repaired there after.

The frame on this unit is all one piece, so it's hard to get to the side. Believe I have located the "bad" tab bond (bad_tab) located on the bottom left. All I can see is this part of the tab - I don't see a full circuit board as I've seen in other photos. There is black tape at the corners and at certain spots over the frame.
I'm having a hard time getting a good photo, when I pull the frame apart from the display, the tab bonds want to remain against the display and it's difficult to see.

I assume the process is to cut the visible tab off (since I don't see a circuit board)- can I just cut the bad one off; or do all on the same side need to be removed?

            Thanks again!

peeled them off - very easy - just wasn't sure what to do since my tabs didn't look like other pictures I've seen.

May as well tape these to the back of the tv (all but the bad one of course). May come a time when one of the tabs on the good side burns up and a diy tab bond can again bring it back from the dead.

Thanks you so much for this thread! I had the exact same problem. I am just wondering, is your TV still working?

                          by TR103
                          Hi, I have a Samsung UE50TU with:
                          - sound and backlight, but no picture
                          - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds
                          - it keeps rebooting
                          - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
                          - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
                          - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

                          - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel and with a jumpered...

Sharp LC70LE747 Flickering - darkening gradually to the right side
                          by SmartSarah
                          Dear,

I can not pinpoint the following problem on my Sharp TV LC70LE747E.
While the left side of the screen is not affected at all the right side of the screen gradually fades to a kind of dark. I can best describe this darkness like a totally worn out CRT display or a gamma correction totally out of range. This darkness flickers like a flame, a dark one tough.
Sometimes when I restart the TV it disappears for a while.
The problem worsened over time the last few months.

I've replaced the t-con module without success. The problem remains.

70LE660U dark cloud or black screen with sound.
                          by Rozp
                          Hello Everyone,

This is my first post so I will try to be as precise as possible without making this post too long winded. Unfortunately I don't have pictures of the original problem but I included images of the TV internals.

I have a Sharp 70LE660U. The problem started a few months ago with the bottom row looking out of sync and was dark on the left side and then fading to transparent on the right side. Shortly after, a dark cloud appeared in the center of the screen. The dark cloud started small and shaded but the image was visible. It also affected the menu area....

43UM7100PLB, no picture but have half picture when i disconnect 1 side of panel
                          by sigmeyer
Like the title says , this is a very interesting problem , never experienced this before so i thought i'd share and maybe get some help on this. So the problem is as such: TV comes on , some gibberish flashes on screen and the screen remains black , the owner of tv said he heard sound. Now i checked some things cleaned all connections first of all so i dont run in a circle. Then i disconnected one of the cables for the panel , and viola, the left side of screen comes on, then i tried to switch it , with left side disconnected and right connected. Same problem persists. I checked some voltages...

KDL-70R550A Peeled off LCD Tabs on left side and perfect picture for 5 minutes
                          by Davidhames
                          Hi Guys,

Thought I might try and seek advice on an issue I am having, I got this SONY tv for free that was having some dark greenish colouring, I replaced the T-CON and too my suprise the TV would not boot - I would get 5 blinking red LED lights. I dug deeper into this forum and someone mentioned the fact that it might be the tabs that connect to the LDC panel, and peeling them off should bring back a clear image. I tried this on the side of the T-con that was causing the tv to not boot when plugged in (left) and wow a perfect picture and was booting up fine! All was well and good...
