Thanks for all the help. I'm going to try and track down where the fault is. Is it ok to test capacitors in situ or do they need removing? My meter doesn't have a capacitance function so was going to test the resistance across them and see if it quickly rises to infinite.

I wouldn't worry about capacitors - the ones you can test at least will not tell you much, and failure of those is unlikely to cause your fault.
      Just test transistors for now.

I had a similar case as yours and the mosfets on the "secondary" side, if you can call it that, were shorted. They are the one's responsible for supplying that voltage for the buffers. From the Vs supply side those mosfets on a separate heatsink were ok thus no short could be detected on the Vs line.
Normally a lot of dry joints on the soldered points of those mosfets that caused the issue. Check carefully.

Yes those would probably be the PASS FETs.

Though the circuit on the Samsung PDPs is considerably simpler nowadays, due to cost reductions and efficiency improvements.

Thank you so much for all the help. I've been waiting till I could afford to get the parts. Finally fitted a Y main and X main and the TV is working! Thanks again

By the way, I tested the old boards every way I could think of and got identical readings to the working replacements so I never did actually narrow down exactly which component(s) failed.

Samsung UN60EH6000F Black Screen, Backlight and Sound Good. Power Cycle Returns Picture
                  by Mgiffune
I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 - no power
                  by PantherDave
                  Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

                  Samsung Plasma PN43D450A2D No Power
                  by CDNBrewer
                  Hello, I have a Samsung Plasma TV - Model # PN43D450A2D

This was my parents TV and the initial symptoms were that the display was hard to turn on with the display making various clicking noises until one day it would not turn on anymore.

I took a look and found a couple 1000uF capacitors (i believe on the low voltage size) that had leaked out their electrolyte and did not test well on a tester. I replaced them but still no dice.

When the TV is plugged in, there is no clicking, LED status lights (on PCB boards or the front display) and the power on button...

                  Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74 power issue
                  by GLISIT
                  Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...
