Sharp LC-90LE657U Tcon Board Vs panel failure

    Hello,

I'm new to the forum. This place seems like an amazing resource for all kinds of knowledge.

I have a Sharp LC-90LE657U that started getting the no picture, 2-5 blink code. After reading through a bunch of threads, I have a question:

If I remove the ribbon cables from the Tcon board, either one at a time or both (there are 2), I get no status change on the TV, and I still get the 2-5 code.

Does that imply that I have some hope of the panels still being good? I haven't checked any power voltages yet. I'm inclined to just replace the power supply and Tcon boards if there is a high probability it's one of the two.

    Thanks,

    Michael

well without checking anything, you could do what ever in terms of buying things... its your money and time. You have to take the set apart anyways to replace cards so you might as well do some checking. The "disconnect of the tcon to panel cables" isn't necessarily going to get you much depending on the actual failure...plus you may need to use the "force key sequence" to actually cause the set to turn on during those tests.

      Thanks for the reply.

To be a little more specific, I've removed the ribbon cables from the control board to the panel, and forced the TV on using the channel and volume buttons while plugging it in.

Regardless of the state of the ribbon cables, (both plugged in, one plugged in, or none plugged in), when forcing the set on the back lights flash on momentarily, then turn off.

This seems different then what most failures I've read about as the back lights do not stay on.
