Panasonic Plasma Hdmi Inputs not Working (TC-P55ST50)

    Hi,

Looking for some help with troubleshooting an issue with my plasma tv. It was on in a thunderstorm and it was hooked up to a surge protector. The power surged in my home and the tv froze. We lost power for a bit after. Upon power coming back on, the tv itself worked, except the source (cable box didnt come on). At first i thought the box died, swapped it with another in the home same issue. I then moved the hdmi cable to the other inputs, same result. None of the hdmi inputs worked.

I did a bit of research and realized that i would need a new mainboard. TNPH0989UB, unfortunately none to be found everywhere I have looked. I have found a board from the same series but different size tv, but the suffix at the end doesnt match and from what i heard, its a big no no. Everyone local has told me that the board is indeed not repairable. PtElectronics has a repair service, which claims that is it repairable, i even confirmed with them by email. My only issue is that i dont reside in the USA, and im debating whether its worth the cost to ship there and back to fix it or put the money towards a new 4k tv (current tv is from 2012, and has seen alot of use).

Does anyone know what work they would be doing on the board? Im assuming that theres some sort of chip or controller for the hdmi inputs. Debating if that's the case, maybe i could i attempt the repair or bring it to a local electronic shop to fix.

Attached is a photo of the board, which i retrieved from ShopJimmy. I have overlooked my mainboard and all other boards on the tv, and everything appears to be ok.

It will be under the heatsink, the HDMI processor. A many legged ic.

They will replace the HDMI chip. If you can find a 50ST50 mainboard it will work just fine. Dont know if your version has fans otherwise you could use a GT50 board also. I have done it many times.
Just last week i replaced a GT30 mainboard with one from a VT30. It is just software. Suffix is important but you cant for example use a 42Inch mainboard in a 55 inch tv. It will turn on but the image will be bad and it will shut down with a blink code. This is ideal for troubleshooting purposes.

So get a 50 inch mainboard and your ready to go. Why buy a LED tv if you have plasma? IF you want to upgrade plasma then buy OLED.

I only repair Panasonic plasma tv's! Currently owning a TX-P55VT50 and still searching for a ZT60!

Thanks for the responses. I did take a look and it is a pretty sizeable chip if its the one i am thinking of. Definitely above my skill level.

The same IC, does it also controls the component input of the board? I cant seem to find my component av adapter that came with the tv. I may order a new one to see if that input works.
