COBY Weird Kludge When Taken Off Fried Main Chip On Board

I have never been a fan of COBYs because they are so weirdly designed..

Got this 55" COBY in. The problem was that when powered on, it wouldn't always come on. When it did, the display went wanky, like someone was pushing a bunch of the buttons (VOL, MENU, etc etc) and then would go off by itself, then come back on over and over..

I was thinking a wanky MAIN board, but when I cracked it open, I noticed a weird "kludge"...

As pictured, on the back of the MAIN board and smaller (Driver??) board, there was a 2 strand wire that went from 4 pins on the LVDS connector on the MAIN board to corresponding 4 pins on the LVDS Connector on the Driver?? board...

Thinking that may have been the problem, I disconnected the wires and the main chip on the DRIVER?? board fried...

I ordered a new DRIVER board, but am unsure if I should try it without the kludge or not..

    Any suggestions??

I should also note that, on the replacement DRIVER?? board, that set of 4 pins are NOT jumper'ed together...

The last pic shows the white cable and to me that does not look like a factory installed wire. It would appear to me that this TV was repaired before and some 'bypass' surgery was performed.

Yep, that's my guess as well..

I just don't know if removing it is what caused the big chip on the DRIVER board to fry or not..

The board is cheap, so I spose I could try it.. I have a 50/50 chance Fry or NO Fry

If it was working before with it there, I would leave it and give the new board a try. Is either it works or it doesn't.

Hooked it all up and powered up.. Nothing. No LED, no nuttin..

I was getting voltage on the MAIN board so I looked deeper..

Looks like a component next to the LVDS connector on the MAIN board got fried as well..

              Ordering a new MAIN....

              Will update..

              Thanx again for the replies..

I have a bad feeling about this TV. Especially when it appeared worked on before. Sure you want to spent on it again?

                  Yea, it's only another $40.. it's a nice 55"...

Putting about $70 into it is not too bad, considering I can probably get around $250-$300 in my area...

Is it possible to upgrade from a Vestel 17MB97 main board to a 17MB110 Main board?
                      by cheeky2
I suppose the real question is whether the existing pinouts from ether a 17IPS71 psu are cross compatible with a 17IPS12 psu? If they are then the exchange of the main boards should have no issues providing the screen is compatible with both main boards. Obviously you can change the screen configurations easily enough (providing you have the correct files) for the main board. Why may you ask would I do this? Well a lot of the smart features are no longer working on a Hitachi 48HBT62U main board I wish to give it a new lease of life!
Obviously the same LVDS connector for the screen connection...

I have a Sceptre U550CV-UMRD8POTV83BB 4K LED (this is a dumb tv) that I bought new in August 2021, so It's just completed 3 years.

Last Sunday I was watching a dvd and fell asleep for about half hour, when I awoke the tv screen was black and couldn't get the dvd menu to show, so I changed the input to antenna and had sound but no picture, turned it off. I then got online and found this great site! ....read many troubleshooting tips and this...

Help Needed: Samsung UE55MU8000 Dead - Possible Main Board Issue
                      by Asraf Atb
                      Hi everyone,

Im looking for some advice regarding my Samsung UE55MU8000 TV with main board model BN94-11606C. The TV suddenly stopped turning on and now shows no signs of life at all not even the standby light at the bottom.

Initially, I suspected an issue with the PSU, so I took it to a repair center. They tested it and confirmed that the PSU works perfectly, even on other TVs. Based on that, I started investigating the main board.

I disconnected the main board from the PSU, and the backlight turned on, which seems to confirm the main board is the issue....

Compatibility of main boards between different variations of samsung MU6100
                      by JSin21
                      Hoping someone here could possibly help. I have a few questions in regards to compatibility with main boards. But I'll give a quick short run down on what's going on first;

I have Samsung Smart TV UA65MU6100WXXY version DA01

Now years ago it started intermittently playing up after a lighting strike. Lighting hit the block of units i was living in at the time. Ever since that night the TV started having a mind of its own, It would randomly turn itself off or on, and all inputs stopped responding like HDMI, aerial, but USB still worked. Anyway, over the next few months...

LG 55LF6000-UB main board swap from 55UH6090 powered up but component on MB fried.
                      by triplefour
So I was trying to repair this tv. Board independent tests prove Psu is good. Backlights are good. But mainboard does not turn on or respond in any way to button or remote. I dig around and find some parts I've stashed from other LG tvs and find the box for 55UH6090 which says all parts were good. Taken from bad panel tv. It looks different and takes a different tcon but the connections to the Psu and to the tcon are conpatible. I figure what the hey just try it. So I do. At first I don't connect the tcon. It powers up fine, backlights and everything. Turn it off, plug in the tcon and turn it...
