Re: Sony KDL-46EX640 won't turn on, 5 blinks on standby light.
Thanks for the follow up. So it WAS a faulty Main Bd. after all.

Re: Sony KDL-46EX640 won't turn on, 5 blinks on standby light.
Follow up on this one, got another main board and fixed it.
Neither the BL-ERR or PANEL-ERR voltages changed from before, so it was just a main board false error. Maybe EEPROM?

Oh well giving up on this one, not worth the trouble..Last edited by kevinm34232; 05-29-2018, 07:44 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Sony KDL-46EX640 won't turn on, 5 blinks on standby light.
Ya not spending that much on an older 46", not worth it.. thanks for looking though..
Budm as for the PANEL ERR#:
On initial plug in to AC and/or each time power button is pressed, pin goes to 0.872V, then drops quickly back to 0V.
The same thing happens if I disconnect CN4002 (the other LVDS connector), or either one or both of the ribbons going to the panel.
With the T-Con completely disconnected from main board, PANEL ERR# goes to 3.3V immediately.
Not sure what to make of that voltage reading whether it should be low or high..
I tried grounding out the 3.3V PANEL ERR# pin with the T-Con disconnected, same 5 blinks.Leave a comment:

Where are you seeing used boards for this model?

Well the backlights came on and stayed on when you tested the PSU so I think a Main Bd will fix your TV.Leave a comment:

What about the BL-ERR?Leave a comment:

Re: Sony KDL-46EX640 won't turn on, 5 blinks on standby light.
On e-bay there are 'used' Main Bd. (I checked) they are supposedly from TVs with broken screen. I buy ALL my boards off e-bay and have had no problems thus far. They are reasonably priced. Yes I do think it is a Main Bd. issue.Leave a comment:

Re: Sony KDL-46EX640 won't turn on, 5 blinks on standby light.
I think I may know what's going on and I don't know why I didn't see this before but when hitting power button, when POWER ON goes high momentarily, BL-ERR is going to 3.3V as well, which would explain 5 blink code, not T-Con problem but a panel issue.
The thing is I've tested backlights with back light tester and can force PS on with POWER ON and BL-ON and seems normal.Leave a comment:

Well at least you did try to trick the ERROR pin signal but still get the same 5-error code. I am not sure at this point if you have T-CON or main board problem.Leave a comment:

I had no luck when I searched for a main board the other day, it's gonna be one of those hard to find ones..
But first let's determine if it's that board for sure.Leave a comment:

Page 13 in budm's service manual looks good, maybe you can trace the tcon on wire back to mainboard then follow the traces to where they go, did you check those two IC voltage regulators right by the connector and any fuses you might have?Last edited by nomoresonys; 05-17-2018, 04:11 PM.Leave a comment:

Sorry about the schematic for the main board, this is the one I am referring to:Leave a comment:

by brithepi2kHi,
I’ve got a Sony KD-65XE8596 here that has no standby light coming on. I’ve tested the power board with the test meter, the TV needs 3.4 for the standby but only getting 2.4. Anything that I can change/check on the board to get it working? Pictures of the board are included.
cheers...5 Photos -
by iglitareHi,
i want to repair a Sony KD-75XF9005 TV that initially only showed a grey picture.
Backlight seems to work, Sound (Setup menu after reset) works.
If i dissconnect the left FFC cable from TCON to panel i have half a screen on the right. If left cable is connected always only the grey screen.
Interchanged the cables, its always only the right side that is working. Always grey if left side is connected.
With my small knowledge i would think at least the cables are good.
Can this happen because of a bad tcon board?
Or is it always a bad/shorted... -
by kcaHello all ~
Hope this finds you well. This LG 82UN8570AUD (April 2021 model) 4K UHD television has full audio capabilities but video is compromised / problematic.
When I picked up this large LG tv it had a full black screen upon startup. Previous owner said it just went black one day. No popping sound or anything else of note.
I got the display to work by taping off several traces of the right-hand side ribbon cable on the TCON that leads from TCON to PANEL. However, despite dozens and dozens of attempts to find the right combination / range of traces taped... -
by thelankanguyThe TV shows a black screen with no image.
TCON ribbon connectors were disconnected individually for image and there was no half image even.
Later both ribbons were disconnected and TCON voltages were tested.
12V, 3.3V, 1.8V were seen present but VONE signal reads 0V.
There is also a short to ground in this circled inductor.
Is this a TCON issue or something else ?... -
by GoodCapDudeHi everyone. First post on Badcaps!
I am trying to fix a Sony 940E from 2017 that either starts normally (and works perfectly until turned off) or goes straight to the 6 blinks error code without showing anything on the screen. It is frustrating to know that it can still work perfectly but is barely usable because of the difficulty starting it up. I am willing to try to short the BL_ERR but I would like to avoid that if possible. Does anyone have a view on this? Thanks a lot.... - Loading...
