Re: Vizio E70u-D3
Its time consuming in terms of getting access. The actual "operation" of isolating which side has a problem is relatively quick assuming the tcon card is functional as the problem does take out the card which then needs to be repaired.
Depending on how "active" the repair shop is (in the "know" / "on-line grazing"), you might get by with a 2-3 hour charge plus parts (if necessary to fix the card). They may "balk" on doing anything other than say its a "panel problem" if they haven't done one before. They may indicate that they won't "guarantee" the attempt.
If you have the space to get at the set and some help manipulating it, it readily doable by most "rocket scientists"... :-)

Re: Vizio E70u-D3
My boss gave me one of these tvs for free the other day because they were replacing them and im pretty sure this is what is wrong with it. It would make sense that the phosphorus would burn out because it has been used for for 2 years straight for 12 to 16 hours a day. I have never attempted any kind of tv repair and im not sure if i should but how much do you think it would cost to get this problem fixed by a pro?Leave a comment:

Re: Vizio E70u-D3
well the "hail mary" is to remove that tabs along the side that is in trouble for other parts that are trying to drive the panel. NOTE this is the LAST RESORT as there is no way to put them back.
BUT first, let's make sure you understand what a "tab" is. It is the thin brown tape going to the panel and is stuck to the panel. I say this because you appear to be using the word "tab" quite alot when referring to cables which are "clampable"... those are NOT tabs.
Anyways, based on the pictures that you have posted, the tabs of interest are along the left side of the panel (looking at the front). There is probably 5-6 tabs if there are no side edge boards. Those tabs are similar to the "u" cables that you unclamped between the bottom edge boards... but these tabs only run from the panel to the panel interconnecting tracks on the panel itself. Hope this gets you further. They are located on the side and NOT the bottom of the panel.Leave a comment:

Re: Vizio E70u-D3
And don't sell yerself short.. You are far from clueless. Even ATTEMPTING such an undertaking is a huge leap forward..
I remember when I started I was PETRIFIED of taking even the simplest of electrical/voltage reading.. Now I am flitting around Plasma voltages left and right..And I would always write off LED/LCD problems as un-fixable... So yer way ahead of the curve in that regard...
As I mentioned, the fact that you were able to take such a large panel off and get it back on without a crack?? On yer first try!? Phenomenal!!
I did replace the tcon today and as you expected it didn't make any difference. I do think it's the tabs on the sides that I messed up. Is there any final step you might suggest before I pack it all up for the recycler?
It was a pleasure working with ya...Leave a comment:

Yeah, I don't do this for a living. I've repaired a few for family and friends but I obviously don't have a clue what I'm doing. I appreciate the support you've provided!

Re: Vizio E70u-D3
Yea, that would be my guess as well..It's a tricky procedure and, at the risk of sounding condescending, you can take SOME comfort in knowing you can do an LED replacement without cracking the screen..
I am not sure if you do this for a living or if this was just a one off for personal "consumption" (so to speak)...
If you do it for a living then every project is a learning experience, even the failed ones.. Actually, ESPECIALLY the failed ones...
I don't mean to sound blase' about it. Believe me I have been there more times than I want to count..
Wish it had gone better for ya...Leave a comment:

Re: Vizio E70u-D3
I think you might have "over handled" the panel when it wasn't framed and it resulted in issues with the various tab bonds around the panel... :-(Leave a comment:

Re: Vizio E70u-D3
I received a replacement TCON board yesterday and I'm going to try it tonight. Based on what you've both told me I'm not expecting this to be the issue at all but I might as well check.
My thinking is it's likely to be the tabs on the left and right sides of the panel rather than the bottom tabs to the driver boards. I was extremely careful with the panel reassembly but I did misunderstand the way the panel layers went together. I placed the panel directly on top of the diffuser and then tried to put the panel frame around the panel. The bottom edge of the panel rested on the bottom frame while the sides and top were on the diffuser. I tried quite hard to put the left and right sides of the frame on before I realized my mistake that the top, left and right frame sides needed to go on first and have the panel rest on it. Given the amount of pressure I applied to try to get the frame to fit I probably pushed down on the tabs on the left and right sides.
The tabs don't look physically damaged but I should inspect them more closely. However, when the TV is powered and I wiggle some of the tabs the display does change (and, at one point caused the TV to "power cycle").
So, the bad news is that I might be screwed but I do think it's likely the bottom tabs are ok.
Thanks for all your advice.

Re: Vizio E70u-D3
you may want to double check the "unclampable" cables on those boards (ie. they go towards the tcon) to ensure that they are indeed aligned properly. The vertical lines do not look good and might be caused by those cables not being connected properly. IF you are ambitious you can try swapping the two cables from the other side and see if that changes anything (note: swap as in unplug BOTH ends and move the cables and opposed to "crossing" which won't work and will cause damage).Leave a comment:

Re: Vizio E70u-D3
Sorry I was confusing. These pictures are not really examples of the horizontal lines. I referred earlier to stuff I was seeing when I was only disconnecting the cables from tcon. In that case the thin boards were all connected. I got different results for each of the four cables. What I was referring to was that in a situation where pat of the panel worked and showed a decent picture there were horizontal lines. Those lines weren’t dark they actually showed a fainter version of the picture.Leave a comment:

Re: Vizio E70u-D3
not sure if we are talking the same "language"... :-) you indicate earlier that you are seeing horizontal lines but in your picture I see only vertical lines.... some one is looking "cross eyed"... :-) but maybe the first one shows some horizontal lines... hard tell with the angle and not knowing what the actual display is supposed to be.
Anyways, IF your set has no edge boards along the sides, then the last tab on the bottom corner is responsible for providing signal (and stuff) to both the vertical portion of the screen (for that section) along with signals that go "thru" the panel up to the tabs along the side.
Your 2nd picture is kind of telling that there is a problem on the other side... as by disconnecting the 3/4 board, no signal is getting up to that side and the tv is relying on the signal going up the other side... BUT as you see nothing is happening.... because the other side has a problem.
The 3rd picture is somewhat telling that there might also be problems on the bottom on the side with the vertical colors.... is that the same vertical area that is showing no display in the first picture? Those might be an issue as the bottom tabs must remain in place. You might want to check the edge boards to see if any SMD components have failed (caps or resistors).... but I fear that this set is not salvageable because you have problems in both the bottom and sides.... but maybe I am not seeing things correctly.Last edited by budwich; 09-02-2018, 07:45 PM.Leave a comment:

by THE GTCSo I use this TV daily as a second monitor for my PC or my Playstation - at one point a few months back I tried to fix the problem - but in the process, I figured out something that works so I haven't posted this for awhile. It is an annoying trick to have to do though, so I decided to post about it to see if anyone could spot what's wrong. It baffles me because it works on it's own half the time.
When I first got this TV, I was told it wouldn't turn on, and of course I did the flashlight test, and the image was there. Also, the red LED on the front indicated that it had power (it... -
Sup Bros!(PewDiePie voice) Just picked up a 60 inch Toshiba E60-C3. I has bright spots, so I could tell that it had Bad LEDs. The pictures on Craigslist and the previous owners description made it sound like a bad LED driver.
I opened up the TV and Tested the LEDs by trying to use what looked like test points near the LEDs... But those were connected to nothing!!!
So after scratching the solder mask between each LED I found out that only 10 of the LEDs were burned, out of 12 strips, with 8 LEDs each=96 LEDs!!!
Fortunately I will only need 10 LEDs. ... -
by dragonsbb16Good evening all.
Not that anyone will be surprised on this site, but I have a Vizio TV with failing LEDs. I have already bought another TV, but I’m looking to repair my 58”. I have contacted ShopJimmy and they do not have the led strips for my tv. Vizio was zero help.
I have few questions to those who know more than me...
1. Is there anywhere else to get replacement led strips for my Vizio?
2. Might I be able to use the led strips from a D60? They look identical, but have a different part number?
3. If 1 & 2 can’t be done, does... -
by brad2157I picked up a Vizio E70-E3 for free that shows Vizio logo and then goes to a black screen. Original owner said he started having wifi issues and then he tried to reset the TV and that's when it wouldn't boot up any longer after his reset attempt. I picked up a replacement main board from eBay that matches the same model # board as the original from the TV.
Original main board - Shows Vizio logo when TV powers on, then goes to black screen. Doesn't boot up. No screen issues with any lines on start up Vizio logo.
Replacement main board - Boots up fine, but starting... - Loading...
