Re: UE55D8000 Power Cycling On Off Issue

I checked for cold solder joints but all looked very good. Should I still resolder anyway just in case? I was gutted today when a new main board gave the same issue although if its just the power board playing up I'll be happy

At this point it will need more in-depth trouble shooting.
Yes I would do the solder touch up.
We will need to do some Voltage checking on the board next.

Thank. I will pop the iron out here and touch up the joints. I will report back shortly. Fingers crossed

Re: UE55D8000 Power Cycling On Off Issue

Ok. Joints resoldered perfectly and board put back into Tv. Still no leds coming on with main board connection diconnected. Though as before when i reconnect the main board to the power board I get the click on off cycle. On for 1 second with smart tv logo then off and then same again continuously.

I would certainly appreciate any troubleshooting suggestions. Thats me signing off for tonight but (I'm in the UK) but I look forward to tomorrows challenge. Thanks so much for the help

Hi Budm. What would you suggest for my next steps. I have checked voltages against the legend and all seem to be there. Thanks

Re: UE55D8000 Power Cycling On Off Issue

I will have to sit down and trace out the board to figure out each section of the circuit first to be able to provide the test points, it will be time consuming (hours or days) which I can only do on my own time, so you just have to wait unless some one else already have the board that can do some Voltage testing and report the results, I usually will take the DC V reading on those lytics filter caps to start with.

Thanks. There is no panic. I was thinking of using a 100ohm resister to turn the power supply on too and then the inverter so see if the backlights come on and stay on, just curious to see if that would cause it to start cycling. I will post back the result. Cheers

Re: UE55D8000 Power Cycling On Off Issue

One thing i did notice is that when it cycles on the samsung smart tv logo appears and from looking at the screen I can see the leds light but tye bottom third of the screen looks darker. It makes me wonder if the bottom leds are working. I have popped the covers and seen that there are 2 led strips. One at either side. I notice one led was loose and broken bottom right although they are absolutely tiny. I have spare 0.5w leds the same style. What would you guys do here or how could i test these. They didnt make it easy lol

                    Re: I may be defeated

Unfortunately I am close to admiting defeat on this one. The little led that had been loose is far too small for me to be able to do anything with. I can't see any replacement or spare led strips either so I may be taking this set to the skip. Such a shame. It must be older than I thought with side lit LEDs.

Anyway thanks for your help. If anyone has any ideas at all in the meantime please let me know (I did wonder if I can bypass this led and be done with it but I think the power board will kick in and cut it off probably.

If you got it all the way down to the LED strips you should't give up, a hotplate, some tweezers and a magnifying glass can work wonders with these. You can get replacement LEDs on aliexpress, our members here can help you in getting the right ones, assuming you're willing to wait a month for them.

I know what you mean I have spent a good amount of time on it so far. There doesn't seem to be a way to test the other leds too they are all on a bar in series. I have attached a picture to show what I mean.

Yes. Was gutted when i seen that. Near impossible to replace the led. Couldnt even see any spares online. If I could have got the full bar I would have bought it lol for an easy life

Wonder if these will work, ad says UN55D8000 NOT UE55D8000. seems rather high tho, 82.50 free shipping.

There's some on ebay U.K. but seems like the second letter is different like UN or 55F8000 n such.

Was looking at the reviews from 2011 when it came out, pretty good reviews, was 2500 dollars U.S. when new.

I saw a very similar review which if the set was mine, I would put to one side carefully and keep an eye out on Gumtree or such similar site for a smashed screen set to harvest the led strips from.
Willing to help but I'm no expert.

+1, after all that work, that slim sammy would be on my swivel wall mount.
