    Best buy's newest dynex crap

As a lot of you may know, best buy sells mostly the dynex brand everything at extremely high prices, something as simple as a dynex 120mm fan (a yate loon, 70cfm,) is $13.99. Now they have Dynex hi-def tv's. I was looking at this thing, it was next to a nice LG. What a piece of crap, I think there was a reason they didn't have it playing a video, and all the others were. It was a 27" widescreen, ok, but the finish on it was not a smooth piano finish, or had good colors. It was dark grey, and felt like sandpaper. The whole thing was the same color, the screen was the same way, sandpaper-y. The seams were not even, most of them didn't really line up, and the two main plastic halfs (the front facia and the rear cover,) clipped together, and half of them were apart. No screws on this thing. Maybe some of the other dynex's are better, but this one was far from impressive.

    Dynex -IS- Best Buy.
Dynex is Best Buy's OEM label.

No telling who actually built it.
Most of it is cheap Chinese junk they ordered with a Dynex label attached.

I've only heard crap about Dynex, and probably that's what it is, but I have a Dynex PSU in my own rig, another one in my son's rig, and another as a MB tester, and so far, none of them have caused any trouble. Never crossed my mind to open one to see what's inside, but they are stable so far (and my rig is almost always on). I also have a Dynex USB modem that I carry around for when I have to download something and there's no hi-speed Inet access available. Even in the van, I have a Dynex inverter to power some gadgets I have in the car. Not a single item has failed on me yet. But I haven't seen a Dynex TV so far. Maybe I've been lucky.

The Dynex PSU's are built by Huntkey unless they are Rocketfish version.
Or at least they used to be.
I dunno who OEM's Rocketfish for them.

From what I recall (reading) the caps are just okay [teapo? capxon?] and ripple wasn't too bad but the IC's don't live up to full load on label for any length of time. Almost, but not quite. Better than most other 'gutless wonders' at least. Hardware Secrets did a review and blew two up and he was all over them for being crap [made a video like he'd discovered gold or had an orgasm or something] but if you pay attention they blew with 2 or 3 rails over the rated amps and with 5v+3.3v watts over the rated value. Not what I'd call a legit test.
~ Prolly okay for a while as long as your system's max load is at least 50+ watts less than the label's claimed ratings and you don't max out any rails.

Got a Huntkey PSU here, confirming that caps are mainly Teapo but there are some Fcon caps too in my unit.

the rocketfish 700 my business partner has was oem'd by huntkey too.
it had leaking fcon's in it.its ok after a recap.
the dynex 500's we got a big bunch of as defective returns were huntkey with bad fcon again.
remember that dynex/rocketfish are just store brands of bestbuy and next week they may be made by someone else.the lowest bidder!

Yeah PC I saw that explosion on that site too.

Sure maybe it wasn't legit but something feels good about seeing another one of these cheap PSUs being put of it's misery though .

Either way that dynex/suckerfish crap is rated at under whats on the label and its 2x the price. The Chinamart PS I get are rated at 500+ watts too but they seem to hold up better despite it most likely being a lie, oh yea and they are like $20 shipped, not $70 or whatever worst buy charges.

Re: Best buy's newest dynex crap

Well, if a P4 3.0 with two SATA harddrives, a SATA burner, one and sometimes two IDEs (200 & 300gb), 3 internal 120mm fans with 4 blue leds each, an 80mm fan on its side, again with leds, plus a external USB 2.5" 60gb HDD powered from the USB port, a card reader, USB Powered speakers, usb powered wireless module for KB/Mouse, the chargers of my ic502 and my Jornada 540, and a 2 AA battery charger ALL ATTACHED on the front USB, a PCIx Video card,USB WebCam, USB scanner, and I don't remember what else is attached to it, turned on 24/7 almost year round either transcoding video, downloading stuff, or sending video to a store in Mexico, don't put a stress on the PSU (not to mention that sometimes I overclock this thing up to 3.75GHz from the stock 3.0 ... now running only at 3.24GHz) rated at 400w, then I don't know what will.
I'm not defending the whole brand, just saying that on this specific model, I am using one full time and other part time, with no problems so far.
It was a temp measure a year ago that I got the first one, but I liked it. $16 shipped to my front door.
And I remember seeing FCons inside. Will open the one in my bench to take some pics of it.
