Why update firmware? TV maker is asking me for an answer.

I have been working on a Westinghouse LD-3255VX and have managed to get it to function thanks to help from this board. I ultimately had to replace the mainboard and add some components with another from a different model and I figure as I have a bright spot a firmware update may help.

I want to update the firmware but Westinghouse no longer has it on their website. I emailed their tech support and they responded that firmware is only provided if the TV has an issue.

So my question is what "issue" can I claim the TV has that WILL result in me getting their latest firmware.

    Thanks

Here is the original post on the issue. In a nut shell I modified a board of a different screen but same maker and basic design by adding a channel (Boost Controller Chip) and all other components so that it matched the original board, plus I swapped EEPROM. The TV is working but now has a bright spot. I was thinking that maybe changing out the firmware may help.

try turning brightness down . also try turning back light level down to try figure it out . its a bit odd as looks blueish . so try in black and white as well . might be easier to figure it out .

I don't think it is a firmware problem
I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

That bright spot is most likely a diffuser problem. You sure the diffuser is seated properly against the backlights which I'm sure is edge lit.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

                Thanks for the suggestions.

I never played with the panel only the main board, but will give it a look over.

As to the firmware two items.

                1) The new board does show a different serial number and I assume this is based off the replacement board which was from a smaller TV model. This may be irrelevant.

                2) Where is the Firmware stored? The EEPROM or on another chip? If it is stored on the EEPROM an update would not matter as I replaced the EEPROM with a "correct" one listed for my TV bought from ShopJimmy. Therefore an update would do nothing.

                  by rumpumpel1
Lenovo System Update offered me an update for the firmware of the Folio keyboard for my X12 Detachable Gen 1. The update got stuck and after 20 minutes I switched off the laptop. Since then, the keyboard and touchpad have been without function. Does anyone know how I can revive it?

                  Sony KDL-46HX850 Can't upgrade/update firmware
                  by dkneyle
Diagnosed this TV as having a failed main board which I've replaced with one from a KDL 55HX850. They are (supposedly) the same board.

Being 'Smart TV' it requires a firmware reboot when you swap out boards such as T-Con or main board. It starts with a black screen and flashing yellow and green LEDS, indicating it needs that firmware boot. The procedure described all over the web is to put the software into the root directory of a FAT32 formatted USB drive and it should load that up once plugged into USB1 port. But not for me. I can see the LED on the USB chip flash for about...

                  by pp74
Does anyone happen to have the latest firmware for the NR1508? Marantz took their update server down and customer support refuses to provide the image to flash over USB.
