LG Plasma bottom half screen black

Hi, I have spent a few days sorting through threads before asking for help so hopefully I won't ask too many stupid questions. Please accept my apologies in advance as I am not a Tech.

I have an LG 1080P 60 inch Plasma TV and the bottom half of the screen is black. It has been playing up on and off like this for twelve months. It seems to be play up more frequently in summer. I live in Australia (no I don't know how to wrestle crocodiles, I don't ride a kangaroo, but I can handle a bloody big snake), and have contacted a tech who is going to charge $150au just to pick the set up before even looking at it.

After reading a few threads, pics and videos on the web and then looking at some of Tom's service manuals(thanks Tom) it seems the problem may be with the Y sustain and or buffers. As I an typing this the set is working perfectly again, but it won't be long before it starts playing up. I haven't attempted to take the back off yet, but that will be the next step. I very good with my hands and I am tech minded, but this is not my area. I know nothing about TVs. I am hoping for some advice first. Firstly am I possibly on the right track and where should I go next. Is it also possible that the ribbon cables are the problem and what should I look for when I take the back off given I only have very basic knowledge. If I can do the work myself I will. And I guess my next question will be, where should I go looking for parts. Thanks in advance for any help and advice. Please see pics below. Oh and this web forum rocks

Ysus and lower buffer is probably the place to start, reseating connections, checking for cracked solders. Could be failing components which in an intermittent situation can be hard to find.

      Is that a 60PS70

Ran into this before. Some jackass that replaced the lower buffer board on an LG never clasped the cable locks. The picture was hit-and-miss where you a tap on the back and see the picture come back and then disappeared in areas. Needless to say all the arcing that was going on over the long period of time almost destroyed the Y ribbons. Luckfully with the concoction of a pencil eraser, MR. Cleans magic eraser and some rubbing alcohol and I was able to clean them up to the point where I managed to get the screen to work again.. Hopefully this isn't your problem. That was a bloody nightmare to repair.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

In answer to your question, It is a 60PS40FD Manufactured in April2009. It an old set by today's standards I know, but I want to get as many hours out of it as I can. It takes two people to lift, so getting around the back is going to be interesting as there's not a lot of space to move behind.

Tw2005 as you also live in QLD can you please advise the best place to go looking for parts if need be?

I will keep updating as I progress. I should have the back off before the end of the week when I get time.

Oh btw, I purchased the set brand new, so the back has never been taken off since I purchased it in 2009. At least we can rule out some jackass tinkering with it.

I suspect these models share the same driver boards. 60PS40FD(Version 60PS40FD-AA-AAULLH) 60PS60FD(Version 60PS60FD-AA-AAULLH)
            60PS70FD(Version 60PS70FD-AA-AAULLH) 60PS80FD(Version 60PS80FD-GA-ANRLLH)

I'm going to assume they all use the same main IC on the mainboard. If so that's generally how these die I believe so if you are patient you may snap up one that's dead on Gumtree, otherwise It'd be a matter of fault finding, get the board number and start looking , ebay etc. There's a couple of recyclers in Australia now but they charge like wounded bulls in my opinion.

You could probably get something working for a $300-$400

I'm seeing $50 / buffer and $150 for the ysus and $90 for the zsus

              Thank you.

Will the Zsus need to be replaced as well?

I'll get back here with an update once I've got the back off and go from there. The fact that it seems to play up more frequently in the heat is interesting and it may be a connection that is the problem.

Panasonic Plasma screen interference on left half of screen
                  by Zelek11
My Panasonic Plasma model P55VT50 has started displaying "interference" on just the left half of the screen only (left when facing the screen). Sometimes it's concentrated in about the first 30 seconds after startup, then disappears. Other times it's fine at startup and then randomly does it later on. When it flashes the interference it's very quick and doesn't stay on the screen unless it flashes repeatedly in a row.

This image is a screen shot from a video I took. This is an example of the interference at its worst. Often the interference is much smaller...

                  by Chrissygizmo
Hello everyone, I’ve just been given a Samsung UE55JU6800K smart tv as it had white spots on the screen due to the led lenses falling off. After refitting them & putting the tv back together I thought it was a nice easy fix for a free bedroom tv , then I tried it before screwing the back into place. I realised that the right side of the screen was darker than the other side, I removed the screen again as I thought the backlights had failed but they are fine.
I put the screen back in place & turned it back on . The screen seemed to be ok again but different screens on the same...

Macbook 2017 with touchbar (A1706) won't turn on after removing the screen
                  by Ryan.man
Hello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!

My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.

This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen...

TD Systems K50DLG12US half black and half white screen
                  by Raulnn
good night! I have this screen that looks half black and half white. the tcon gives a low vgh value (5-6v). the rest seem fine. I first removed the flex from one half of the panel and then the other. Removing the left, vgh increases it to 25-26v. I think the problem is in that area, but there are not many elements on the integrated controller board. there are no shorted capacitors. could they be a cof? Some help?

By the way, now the entire screen is black. Maybe some flex was not connected correctly... I have exchanged the flex and there are no variations, I don't think they are the...

Sharp Aquos LC-70C6400U Half Screen Dark
                  by scubacamper
I found another post on this site the other day which has been very helpful in troubleshooting this issue I am having with my tv. The left half of the screen is dark, and the other half is VERY slow to generate it's image - and it only generates part of its image at that.
Based on this yt video, I have narrowed it down to an issue (short?) on the left side of the display, somewhere in the system of ribbon cables.
when I remove the bezel and the rear cover, I can get the image to display correctly by manipulating the ribbon cables on the left side which connects the left lower display...
