Hi, I have spent a few days sorting through threads before asking for help so hopefully I won't ask too many stupid questions. Please accept my apologies in advance as I am not a Tech.
I have an LG 1080P 60 inch Plasma TV and the bottom half of the screen is black. It has been playing up on and off like this for twelve months. It seems to be play up more frequently in summer. I live in Australia (no I don't know how to wrestle crocodiles, I don't ride a kangaroo, but I can handle a bloody big snake
), and have contacted a tech who is going to charge $150au just to pick the set up before even looking at it.
After reading a few threads, pics and videos on the web and then looking at some of Tom's service manuals(thanks Tom) it seems the problem may be with the Y sustain and or buffers. As I an typing this the set is working perfectly again, but it won't be long before it starts playing up. I haven't attempted to take the back off yet, but that will be the next step. I very good with my hands and I am tech minded, but this is not my area. I know nothing about TVs. I am hoping for some advice first. Firstly am I possibly on the right track and where should I go next. Is it also possible that the ribbon cables are the problem and what should I look for when I take the back off given I only have very basic knowledge. If I can do the work myself I will. And I guess my next question will be, where should I go looking for parts. Thanks in advance for any help and advice. Please see pics below. Oh and this web forum rocks
