    Help with Sony KDL-46XBR4

    Hello,
I had an issue with my XBR4 with no backlight and intermittent picture/sound outage. Narrowed the issue down to no 3.3v backlight trigger from AU board. Ended up replacing AU board and FB1 board to get the trigger. Now, I get the backlight and the menu but still no picture or sound. I know I have to update the serial/model of the unit but I'm unable to figure out how to change this. I've already tried service menu but don't see a place when I can change this. Could somebody help with this?

I did notice after replacing AU & FB1 boards, the serial/model is different so I know I have to change it but not sure if no picture/sound is because of that or I still have issue with AU board.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. TIA

    Re: Help with Sony KDL-46XBR4

funny I just came across a non-working 46xbr4... :-( but in my travels came across some stuff.

    To update the FB1,
you go into the service menu (you say you know how), then press "jump" until the BEM micro serice menu displays.
then press "2" until the 001 model_info category displays. Use "3" or "6" on the remote to increase or decrease the value ... "0" is for 40", "1" for 46.
to write into memory, press "muting" and then "0" on the remote. exit service mode via the power off.

NOTE******** I don't know if this works, it is just based on readings... don't know how dangerous it is either.

Thanks for that. I actually came across those steps as well. I did change the model_info to correct size but I didn't see a place to change the actual model/serial# (Original: KDL-46XBR4 with 800xxxx serial# & After replacing FB1: KDL-46XBR5 with 821xxxx in the support info). I was hoping I could change these in the service menu like you mentioned but haven't been able to find a place to correct it.

I still have no picture for digital inputs (HDMI/component) so may be I'll put the original AU board back in to see if FB1 board was the problem all along. I wouldn't think incorrect model/serial could cause no picture condition, could it?

      Thanks again for your input.

You are past my limits of read... but once in the service menu, you use "jump" to go to various "submenu"... one of those holds the model.... its before the FB1 change.

Further, in my travels in sharp with a different main board, we had to change some "jumpers" to adjust tv size (46->42) and then had to do a factory reset to get things going. maybe sony has the same requirement.... ie. reset
