Samsung UN60EH6000 Tries to come on, but stops

    Symptoms:
When I turn the set on, it makes the welcome sound and the screen is dimly lit.
The power button flashes 6 times.
The screen stays dimly lit, but that is all it will do.

    I have checked:
    A. Visual inspection of P/S board (BN44-00500A), the Main board (BN94-05549E) and T-Con board (BN97-0655TC). Nothing looks burned or out of order.

B.On P/S board I checked the voltage going out of it. There are pins 1-9 (See attached image of connector).
    Pin 1 to 4 (D1+ to D1-) =150Vdc
    Pin 1 to 3 (D1+ to D1-) =150Vdc
    Pin 6 to 9 (D2+ to D2-) =117Vdc
    Pin 6 to 9 (D2+ to D2-) =117Vdc

    C. On the 14 pin connector (see attached Image), I checked these between the pin and the chassis.
    1 :12.83
    3 :12.83
    5 :12.83
    7 :12.83
    9 :0
    11 :5.43
    13 :5.43

    D. In order to check pins 2 thru 14, I had to uplug the connector. Not sure if that was the correct thing to do or not, but I could not access the pins with it connected. Here are the readings I got.
    2: 3.07
    4 :12.83
    6 :3.02
    8 :0
    10 :0
    12 :5.45
    14 :3.23

E: Checked fuse incoming fuse on T-con. It is ok.

What do I need to check on the P/S board to determine what the trouble is?

    Thanks,
    Kirk

It's not clear, do you have an image?? The backlight is evidently OK don't test it..

Looks to me under B that you have a bad LED string D2.

" do I have an image"....

No image. When set comes on, the backlights are just dimly backlit. No video.

Unplug the main board from the PSU and plug the TV in. See if the backlights come on full tilt.

I just tried that. No noticable difference with either ribbon unplugged.

Yes, the backlights are much brighter with that unplugged. When I plug it back in, they go off.

Re: Samsung UN60EH6000 Tries to come on, but stops

I just watched this YT video of a guy troubleshooting a Samsung T-Con board. He has the same symptoms as mine. Not the same board as mine (his is a BN95-00628 vs my BN97-0655) but mine has the same components that he is checking.

On coil L701 and L702, I have 0 and 0.7 volts. These should be 1 and 3.3 Volts. My L302 is 1.0, which is correct. Also on caps L7114 and 7122, I have .01... they should be 35V.

He says the problem is the "Switch Mode Power controller" chip on this board (ISL9860). He replaced the chip and it fixed his issue.

This sound right to you guys?

Running the PSU without the main board proofed that there is nothing wrong with the LED strings. So maybe that measurement on string D2 was wrong? Anyway, next logical thing is to troubleshoot the Tcon board for voltages. I guess you found voltages missing, so yes... you are on the right track. Just to make sure, does the Tcon get power from the main?

                    I re-checked the D1 and D2. They are both 117Vdc.

There is only one cable going to the T-Con, so it looks like its getting the power from the main. There is 1-3V on various pins on the input side of the T-con. I checked the test ports on the output side (the ribbon cables) going to the panel and there is no voltage there. I am leaning toward the T-Con board being bad.

So you do have 12VDC at the T-CON SMD fuse?

Yes, there is 12.75 V on both sides of this fuse (F301).

Try disconnecting the flat cable between the LCD panel and the T-CON board to see some of those Voltages on the T-CON will be present correctly.

I cannot see the T-CON board in that picture.

                            Bud,
My bad. Did not realize the pic of the back was before I removed the entire panel. Here is a couple shots of me checking the input fuse (F301) and the voltage readings on the output side of the T-Con. Ribbon 1 and 2 gave the same readings.

If that is not what you were asking for let me know, I can get it.

                            Thanks

So what are you getting on those test points now without the ribbon cable to the LCD panel in place.

That eliminated the shorts in the tab bonding board then.
So you will have to try new T-CON board at this point.

I don't do this professionally and it works just fine. I get dc Voltages and Ohm readings which is what I need to troubleshoot.

But whitout TIP is ridicolous, on a board with very tiny smd components, you risk highly to burn it.. the tester i've said is not professional..
