I bought this TC-P55GT30 new in 2011. It made a pop sound and now is dead. It makes no clicks and no led. I am a retired auto/truck tech. I have a fluke DVOM. I will attach the circuit board picture. I am hoping for guidance on where to start checking voltages etc. I have looked over the caps etc and don't see anything obvious. Only odd thing I see is one of the fans is missing a mounting screw and standoff. I didn't find them under the back cover anywhere. Wife says to just replace it but I enjoyed the picture quality and have a bunch of 3D pictures and movies. Thanks

Re: TC-P55GT30 Made a pop and now dead
Try checking the SC2 pins and see if they're shorted or the 30F131, RJP30H2 transistors on the SC. Don't usually loose the front LED with the SC , 7 blinks normally.
I have had a bad Pboard with a very small smd FET fail on it and that caused no stdby LED but it was not mine so not sure if any noise was associated with that.
SC failure very common.Comment

Re: TC-P55GT30 Made a pop and now dead
That board is the power supply or "p" board. Disconnect sc2 at the other end, that is the sc board. Put a probe one one pin and one on the other. If you hear a beep for more than 3 seconds you have a short on the board. Check the parts marked 30f131 by testing leg to leg and leg to tab for continuity. Any beep is bad.Comment

Re: TC-P55GT30 Made a pop and now dead
I checked across the 2 pins at SC2 and they show full continuity(shorted). My old Fluke 73 doesn't have beep. I checked the 3 30f131s closest to the SC2 and they all showed continuity leg to leg and leg to tab. Surprised with the results I rechecked then with an analog VOM with the same results. Is unusual for them all to be shorted all ways? Are there more I should check or can we assume the SC board needs repair?
I had seen in another thread here (the same TV and same no LED/pop symptoms) that you should check for 5vdc on pin 6 of P6. I had only 1.9 vdc and when I checked it sounded like a relay on P2 clicked sometimes. In that thread they replaced P1 then P2. Unlike mine their SC was OK. Seems as though most SC failures have the 7 blink LED. Concerned that I have no LED, relay click etc.Comment

Re: TC-P55GT30 Made a pop and now dead
I don't think I will be repairing the board. I hate to admit I am not as steady and don't see as well as I once did. My comp engineering student son works on PCBs in the summer, wife won't wait that long. I will have to send the board for repairs. Is there a way I can tell if other boards etc are damaged before I spend the money on the SC board? Recommendation on where to send the board? ThanksComment

Re: TC-P55GT30 Made a pop and now dead
Yes. You have to check the buffer boards, SU & SD. There are 4 screws that attach the buffers to the SC board. They are the floating variable grounds. Two on top two on bottom. Take them out and remove the 3 white connectors to the SC. Put a probe on one of the 2 screws on the top board and flip up the latchs on that board that go to the golden ribbon cables. If your meter has no beep function I think you can use ohm scale to find shorts. Take other probe and rake across the pins of the connectors. Repete on the bottom one. This model is known for one buffer going bad.Comment

Yes leave ribbons in place. Make sure you dont hit the holes on the very ends of them, they are grounds and will make your meter beep and give you a false reading. Check the SS fet that TW2005 is referring to also.Comment

by double_DDHi all,
As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?
I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.
Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard... -
by disorderhello guys,
i need help to repair a edm-033 ps2
history : as always hdmi port and usb ports destroyed after unplugged
after change them, ps5 dead too : 1 beep, no blue light. after inspection 1.8v power was shorted, and because of dead panasonic chip. after remove it : no short anymore
so i changed it
now i have got 5v stby,, 3.3v stby, 3.3v power, 1.8v power and no short on them
but the ps5 is dead again : 1 beep, near 10 seconds with power lines and then off, no blue light ...
i don't see any projection of liquid metal on pcb.

Hello everyone hope all doing well!
I have this PSU (GPS450-AA delta oem) around for like 4-5 years and I had it recapped early 2020 or 2021 with mostly UCC KY and Nichicon PW's. The bulk was and still is fine, the original Ltec's were bloated and empty. The previous issue was some major coil whine noise and at times random shutdowns when going idle. Today it started tripping the mains breaker and I think I have dead APFC mosfets (20N60C3). Right now upon checking I have the Q1 and Q3 FETs dead so far and I guess those are responsible for the PFC circuit. The only thing I care is If there...3 Photos -
by BetonHi guys!
I searched for the term "dead short" in the forum but no specific thread came up however if I'm just blind and couldn't see the thread talking about this please forward me to that direction.
So my problem is I don't know how to find the source of a dead shorted voltage rail. Dead short = ~0 ohm resistance.
I have two VGAs (HD 4850 and HD 4870), both dead shorted to ground on the memory rail. I have the boardview file for the 4870 and the memory rail consists around ~7892346 capacitors...
I have a bench PSU and if I try to inject voltage the voltage... -
Hello, today I'm working on this lovely MSI Raider GE75 gaming laptop which I bought to flip. Unfortunately, I believe the CPU is toast but I wanted a second opinion before I chucked it into my spare parts bin. I will not have most tools with me today as I'm away from my workbench but I have the basics (a good multimeter, a horrible iron, a solid screwdriver, and my trusty thermal cam). I do not have the original 230w charger, but I have a Dell 180w which was sold with the device and reportedly "worked fine for them".
