I was reading the troubleshooting post on here and it says the tcon is responsible for lines on the screen. But I was reading other posts where people were dealing with lines and they were all talking about bad panel tabs.

Re: Vizio D650i-B2 panel tab or tcon?
If it's the panel then I might as well break this tv down and sell the rest of the components. Shame to have to do it though. This tv takes up half the wall in my bedroom. But it was a free tv so im sure i'll come across another in due time. Still have a 60" and a 58" on the bench for repair. I seen videos where people put stuff on the tabs to kind of put pressure on them to make a connection. Not worth it to me. I don't want a temp fix. If I part it out then I have money to put into others that need to be fixed. Right now I've got about 15 flatscreens ive collected from around the area for free all with various problems. -

You sell flat tv like bread in USA? Lucky.. i have to pay always.. single or few lines on the screen means that COF chip has lost connection in the output or the internal register has some failing locations (difficult because le lines are black so 3 sub pixel columns consecutive broken), If you put pressure and lines goes away you have the answer. I'm not so sure it is a temp. fix if you do it well also with some that is spreading the heat to the frame, also watch for high ripple from PSU, it can be the source of the problems i think..Comment

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.
Where is the short?
Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.
Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but... -
by advantThis thread is about trying to get an Universal Main Board to work with a Sharp TCON and panel.
I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match... -
by mmartellMy goal here is to be able to use boards on hand to swap into faulty sets when the faulty board is not obvious.
I will start by asking what is the format of the output from the mainboard and is it generic in any way or does it vary by manufacturer and/or model ?
And as far as I know a tcon and panel must be a matching pair because the timing of the signals and the voltages required to drive the panel are specific to the panel itself. (That may be a blanket statement that isn't true in some cases where the panel creates its own sub-voltages on its panel boards?)...01-06-2024, 01:32 PM -
by brad2157I picked up a Vizio E70-E3 for free that shows Vizio logo and then goes to a black screen. Original owner said he started having wifi issues and then he tried to reset the TV and that's when it wouldn't boot up any longer after his reset attempt. I picked up a replacement main board from eBay that matches the same model # board as the original from the TV.
Original main board - Shows Vizio logo when TV powers on, then goes to black screen. Doesn't boot up. No screen issues with any lines on start up Vizio logo.
Replacement main board - Boots up fine, but starting... -
by Lee M.TV came on with BL on but blank screen. Disconnected one of the ribbon cables from tcon to panel driver board and now I have half of the screen working normally. Any way to tell if the problem is with the tcon or the panel driver board or the panel itself? Should I just replace the tcon and see what happens?
