Panasonic glass panel plasma TV? Model TC P50S1

    Hi,

I download the manual found in post five of this thread.

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...sonic+TC+P50S1

Item 11 in the parts list is a "glass panel" item 4 is the "plasma display panel".

So is that correct is there a glass panel in front of the plasma panel. So if the glass panel is scratched I can replace it?

In general do all plasma TV's come with a glass panel in front of the plasma panel? I have never had to or tied to replace a plasma panel so I have never disassembled the plasma panel.

    TIA Jets

Panasonic marketed some of their plasma TVs as having a "tough panel" which would resist impact. Although not marketed (because Panasonic didn't want customers trying it), it is sufficiently strong to resist the impact of a Wii controller thrown from a normal distance.

The panel should be technically replaceable, but it will likely be glued to the frame and an identical part would need to be sourced. Alternatively, you may be able to remove the panel and live with the TV as it is. The glass panel has an antireflective coating which reduces the effect of light shining on the screen, but the TV should otherwise work fine.

Haha yeah I've seen that. The idiot ought to have known that Samsung never protected the plasma glass on their sets. The panel is exposed.

In terms of general rigidity and resistance to impacts, plasma is slightly better, but not much. It will stick crack from an impact.

Yes you can replace the glass in that model, it is usually held in with foam tape. I changed a few of the 42" a long time ago.

Did you buy glass from Panasonic or aftermarket?

If I have to go to Panasonic should I go direct or contact a dealer to get me one?

Do you know what it would cost for the panel, is it reasonable? I bet the shipping is more that the panel LOL.

Also knowing it's tinted I could remove it , have a glass guy measure the tint and see if he can make a panel? Betting the original would have a special coating or something though.

I have not tried to polish it yet but I bet that would remove any coating too?

I have a TC-P42S1, got a glass expander? The manual has the part number for the glass, check with a dealer, I don't think they were too expensive, but they may not be available anymore.
Looks like TC-50PS14 uses the same front glass Pt# TKGA5503S

Some older models had indeed a glass frame in front of the panel. For example the V10 and the G10.
They were not glued but screwed to the frame.

There are some other models that have the same kinda build....

I'm assuming it was a joke...42" screen, expander, out comes 50" screen.

It was a joke, The glass I have is for a 42" tv, and would not fit your 50" model

I recently found myself the proud owner of a later-model Samsung plasma (the PN59D7000 for those keeping score at home) whose panel was, unfortunately, damaged in transport. I'm now preparing to part it out, but am curious as to whether or not any damage would have come to any of the components by attempting to power it up with the panel being broken. I read in one Avsforum thread (for whatever that's worth 😂) that the "scan driver boards" (by which I assume he means buffer boards) could be impacted by doing so. Is that actually the case? If so, since I don't intend on selling bad...

                              Hi,
anyone able to provide the service manual for old plasma Panasonic TX-P42ST50E?
It turns off almost immediately (0~5 seconds after pressing the on/off button) and starts flashing the red diode 6 times.
I disconnected the left-hand side board (SC?, both the ribbon cable and the power cable to it) and also another ribbon going to bottom left board. Then the led signal is 8 flashes. According to service guide to another Panasonic plasma it would mean the left-hand side board is faulty. But I'm not sure it 100% applies to my model.
I checked that board for any obvious faults...

Hey guys, I have a Panasonic plasma here with two black rectangles in the display. As you can see from the picture, they affect the menus as well. Both black rectangles extend to exactly the center of the screen.

I started with the bottom right black bar as it was closest to me on the desk. I found that the two 6.8 ohm resistors pictured were open circuit. I removed them to verify and they were blown. According to the schematic, these are for the 75V VDA rail.

I then did a diode mode test on the load side of the resistor and sure enough there was a short. I disconnected...

                              Hello,

Stopped by this site trying to fix my parents Panasonic Plasma TV.

                              Model number is TH-50PZ85U

Power comes on and the red power light stays on solid.

Did a few checks like hold the power button on for 60 seconds, hold the - Volume while holding the menu button, no luck, still@ blank grey screen as the screen lights up very vague.

I also hear a few clicks.

I also think my parents said there was a thunderstorm and the TV failed after that.

Section 6 in the service manual talks about power and no screen,...
