    LG 37LC7D Bad/Bulging Caps

Apologies if this isnt the correct place for this. This is my first real post here.

Found myself an LG 37" at the curb today. Did some testing and found it didnt like to turn on all the time.

Pulled it apart and found 4 or 5 bad Capacitors and im assuming thats the only issue.

When it doesn't turn on, the green power light flashes 2 or 3 times then flashes red once and repeats. My main question is has anyone come across one of these sets with the same issue? and am i wrong in assuming capacitors are Polarized?

Heres a few pictures of the Power board. The Bulging/Bad caps as far as i can tell are located at C202,C206,C210 and C217

I would replace all of the caps apart from the really big mains filter.
The white side of the caps with the - indicates the negative side. As you can see they line up with a mark on the PCB.

I think everyone who repairs electronics has come across bad caps
I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

I plan on replacing them all eventually but id like to replace the individual ones first to Confirm that they are the whole issue..

How Should i go about locating Individual Capacitors?

is Ebay a safe place to buy them or do you all have a better source?

        C202,C206 and C217 are all the same parts. (10v 2200uf V0A PET)

        and C210 (35v 1500uf V4A PET)

Edit: I found these, are they the ones i need?

I suggest Digikey or Mouser as there are lots of fakes and junk caps on ebay. I use Panasonic FR FM and FC series. Low ESR and good quality.
I've learnt to never assume, especially when it comes to electronics but considering the visual deformity of those caps and the fact there is power, it's a fair guess to say replacing them should get the TV powering on again.

You need low esr for these power supplies. The first link was low esr caps the second was for general purpose and not suitable for smps

i have several old Computer power supplies laying around and some other old electronics. Im wondering if i can salvage some caps from them for testing purposes until i can order the whole set of caps for my power board.

Caps are cheap. Order new. Do it once and do it right.

What to look for on power supply caps is low esr, 105c temp, equal or real close capacity uf rating and equal or higher voltage rating

+1 All of us who repair would not think twice of first replacing all the bulged capacitors irrespective of any other faults which may be found afterwards.
You cannot test the speed of the car if the engine is not running. So get the power supply up and running before worrying about any other possible fault. Capacitors are cheap.
Willing to help but I'm no expert.

                        Re: LG 37LC7D Bad/Bulging Caps

I have repaired two of these models. One had C202, C206, C210 and C217 bulged and the other had C202, C217 and C221 replaced with wrong values (assuming they were bulged initially). I would recommend replacement of all the following capacitors.

                        C202, C206, C217, C218 - 2200uF/10V
                        C208 - 2200uF/25V
C210 - 1500uF/35V (one tv this value was 1000uF/35V and bulged)
                        C221 - 470uF/10V (can use 35V to simplify ordering)
                        C222 - 470uF/25V (can use 35V to simplify ordering)
                        C226 - 470uF/35V

If you order from Digikey, if you limit the search to Rubycon caps, in stock, bulk or cut tape, there will be less options.

I have been using a Denon AVR-X2000 receiver in my living room for several years now, works perfectly, am very pleased with it. Recently I acquired another one, advertised as defective with flashing red led a few seconds after switching on. Picked it up to try repair and use in hobby room. After switching on, the on/off indicator led indeed initially flashes green for about 2 seconds, during which the display is visible, and then starts flashing red (at 2Hz) with a switched off display.

I'm afraid the service manual is too large to upload here (55Mb), it can be found at https:/...

                          Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

                          by Paxman_Swede
                          Hello!

I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

I have studied the board and...

I'm trying to repair two old VCRs, they both have bad caps. One has leaky ones, the other would barely run until I subbed in some caps from another power supply I had laying around (though they are the wrong values). This vcr works for an hour or two, but then the power supply starts whining and the picture gets lines in it. I didn't replace all the secondary caps, so another voltage might still be problematic, or the values I used are too far off.
I've been on mouser and digikey but the options are a bit overwhelming. I just need some new ones that will work. They don't need to be top quality,...

                          Gigabyte GA-6OXT :: caps question
                          by Foetuss
                          Good evening

I recently aquired a rev 1.1 Gigabyte 60XT, and was suprised of the amount of leaking caps for a motherboard of the P3 era. Especially the way the 330µf caps seems like the housing discolored even.
Now, there are some 3300µF 6.3V KZG series around the CPU. Would it be OK to replace them with something like EEUFR1A332 ? (Panasonic FR 3300µF 10V). Or was this board designed around very low ESR caps?

But I was also suprised about the bigger boys, which are 330µF 25V.
Could it be they used 25V caps because they were cheaper / available at that time?...
