Hello folks, I'm working on a 2011 Sansui 40" LCD model HDLCD4050B. No LED so I figured there is no standby voltage. This is my first LCD TV repair but I have fixed lots of old vintage tube radios and some TV's. Unfortunately the PSU board has no markings at the connectors. Can anyone help me with the basics of testing this board? I'd like to start by determining whether the STBY voltage is present. Thanks!

C3828 is part of standby power supply filtering circuit, so check the DCV between the two legs of that cap.Never stop learning

Re: 2011 Sansui HDLCD4050B 40" LCD CEK649A Power Supply Troubleshooting
Elektrotanya.com appears to have a schematic and shows usual 5v 3.3v and 12v as outputs. Measure main cap as budm says usually above 350v. Standby 5v if ok should show red led on front of tv when switched on at pp. The outputs are measured to gnd.Last edited by maxvalutech; 06-14-2017, 10:46 PM.Comment

Re: 2011 Sansui HDLCD4050B 40" LCD CEK649A Power Supply Troubleshooting
C3828 shows 0 volts. All fuses show continuity. The line coils sound like they are making odd crackling noises. C3814 shows approx. 168V across the legs.
Thank you maxvalutech for the schematic lead. I will check it out later today after work. Yesterday the website was blocked by Google as a potential security risk.Comment

Check fusible resistor R3825 to see if it shows around 1 Ohm or not.
Check the DCV between the two legs of the main filter cap C3814 for the standby power supply section, it should have around 160VDC.
What is the P/N as printed on top of the SMPS IC3801?Last edited by budm; 06-16-2017, 08:25 PM.Never stop learning

Sorry couldn't recall how I found it but now know I searched for it as DS-1107A and it came up then. Shows two connectors the second for inverter 24v output.Comment

Wow, that was quick! Thank you for the fast reply. I am sure you have seen the problem before. Can I ask what causes it to fail?
Would this be a good replacement or am I way off?

Check the resistance between the Source pin and the Drain pin of that IC to see what you get in Ohms.
Also check all the diodes around that IC.Attached FilesNever stop learning

Re: 2011 Sansui HDLCD4050B 40" LCD CEK649A Power Supply Troubleshooting
Finally got my new SS-02 solder sucker (lost my old one) and the new parts in yesterday. The old IC measures approx. 1800 ohms between drain and source, in circuit and out of circuit. The new IC measures in the megohms.Comment

Re: 2011 Sansui HDLCD4050B 40" LCD CEK649A Power Supply Troubleshooting
I tested all the surrounding diodes and they checked out OK. I then installed the new IC and a new 2.2 ohm resistor and it worked! Thanks to everyone for helping, especially budm! Now for further testing to make sure the rest of it works.

by blues_spiritHello from France,
mon2 kindly advised me to post a thread to ask the question(s) I'm concerned about. I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for practical courses for troubleshooting pc motherboards especially laptops in Europe, if possible in France. I have been a computer network system administrator and a corrector of administration modules for automated programs under Unix. But I really miss the practical "ops" side of troubleshooting. So I would like to start from the beginning: 1.8V, 3.3V, 5V and 19V tests for example, etc...
Do you think this is feasible for me? I... -
by Chivo77hello friends, I have a DELL LATITUDE 5420---MODEL P137G, ST 20TFKN3 LA-K491P REV:2.0 (A01) and its quite a challenge. It powers on with the battery disconnected, lasts on for about 15 secs, and then shuts off. It does the same with battery only (no adapter). With battery and adapter it sometimes starts after hitting the button several times. It displays nothing in every case. Since only the Boardview is available, I guided myself with schematics similar to this laptop (I'll add them down). Some measurements:

by gcrezzThe issue with this video card is the HDMI port. Specifically on pin 19 (Diode checks on all other pins are normal). When i do a diode check on it from the pin on the board itself, I have nothing. There is also no short on the pin. Resistance reads about 200k. Normally on any HDMI pin 19 I would expect some voltage drop anywhere from .5v to 1.2v but here, I have nothing. The card is operational and can be used via the displayPort ports, but not through the HDMI. Attached you will find the pdf schematics for the card on page 22. I have verified that all of the resistors on this line before the...07-25-2024, 09:49 AM

Hello all,
As the title states, I followed the troubleshooting guide located here: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/23...page=53#manual, which concluded the 'A' board needs to be replaced. Looking around the net and eBay, I see that there are repair services for the board (TNPH1043UE? Not sure if it is a 'UE' as the suffix grid does not appear marked). What additional troubleshooting can be performed to ensure 1) this board is the problem and 2) since there are repair services, what are they fixing on the board?) I expected 3.3V not to be available anywhere... -
by ZippieI’m looking for some advice troubleshooting an old Chiefmax 650w power supply in a PC, if it’s advisable to dig into it.
Worst case I can replace the PSU, I’m just interested in learning the troubleshooting process. However, it’s out of my area of expertise and I could use some direction.
During PC operation I heard a loud pop noise, like a cap gun and the tower lost power.
Initially there is no power output 3.3v, 5v, or 12v when jumping the power on pin to ground. Also, no fan power.
Opening the PSU the only things visible initially... - Loading...
