    LE40A856S Dead, Troubleshooting

Hi all. I've been trying to revive my old Samsung LE40A856S. It's pretty old now, but it's a shame to junk such a nice TV.

About a week or two ago it just stopped working completely while watching it. Previously we've had the picture freeze and other odd things, but a power cycle has always sorted it. This time it was well and truly dead.

First thing I thought was the power supply. Opened it up and checked a few lines which should have been power, and got nothing. So I assumed it was the power board which had died, so I replaced it.

Exactly the same problem, completely dead.

So next I replaced the main board. It now comes on and the buttons respond with a beep, but nothing else happens, then it shuts itself down again with all the front lights illuminated.

I tried disconnecting the TCON board and it did exactly the same. The light on the front right (I think its the remote control active signal light) flashes a few times and the TV shuts down again.

Ok, I'd read about flashing LED's and TCON comms problems, so that was my next guess. Although the TCON was getting power, all fuses were ok, and the 3v line was present. But that was my next guess...

Ok, so new TCON board. Still exactly the same.

So I'm a bit puzzled now.

The inverter board isnt getting an enable signal, it just floats around 200mv, so it doesnt look like the main board is even trying to power up the screen.

As disconnecting the TCON makes no odds, and as far as I'm aware comms failure on the TCON does result in a flashing light on this TV (although I think its the source led), I think the board is not getting as far as communicating with the TCON.

I'm not really sure where to go from here. Any ideas much appreciated. If this TV turns out to be dead, so be it, but I'd like to learn from the experience. I'm quite capable with electronics design and manufacture in my own little hobbyist field, but trouble shooting TV's is new to me.

Clear sharp pictures of both the main boards for comparison would be helpful. It may well be that you have a board for the same model set but for a different lcd panel therefore different firmware installed.
Willing to help but I'm no expert.

        Thanks for the responses --

        The part numbers are:

        Power board: BN44-00245A

This one I have the original back in place as the new one now, both appear identical.

        Main board:
        BN41-01053B

        Hires pics of both attached.

I hadn't noticed until you mentioned the stickers -- my board has a 1005.0 as the last number on the sticker and the replacement has 1002.1.

        Revision number?

Does anyone know if there are schematics for these available?

            Re: LE40A856S Dead, Troubleshooting

            Mrgizmo,

The main board part number starts with bn94 and will be located on a bar code sticker. The board number starts with bn41 and will be printed directly on the board. If you purchase a main board based on the bn41 number then you more than likely will purchase the wrong version or incompatible version.
However the boards above have the same BN94-02102D part number so they should work with one another. You may have just gotten a bad main board.

              Hi There,

This TV was auto switching off after few seconds with some vertical lines on the screen, so got a new TCON board and replaced it.

After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.

Driving a Sharp TCON/panel with a universal main board
              by advant
This thread is about trying to get an Universal Main Board to work with a Sharp TCON and panel.

I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match...

Nikon D5 – dead, power board issue ?
              by corrize
Hello, the DSLR has heavyly fallen. It is dead : no sign of life and display nothing.

When it worked, it always displayed a card present state on LCD display, even when the battery is empty it display a empty battery symbol.
I found a dead fuse, I replaced it and a mosfet burnt, I changed it and another fuse burned. Nothing burned after. And I can't find any short circuit anywhere, it's weird.

Now, I try to understand how it works.

There is two boards (the little one on pictures has no component) : the first is a « power board » : managing...

Help Needed: Samsung UE55MU8000 Dead - Possible Main Board Issue
              by Asraf Atb
              Hi everyone,

Im looking for some advice regarding my Samsung UE55MU8000 TV with main board model BN94-11606C. The TV suddenly stopped turning on and now shows no signs of life at all not even the standby light at the bottom.

Initially, I suspected an issue with the PSU, so I took it to a repair center. They tested it and confirmed that the PSU works perfectly, even on other TVs. Based on that, I started investigating the main board.

I disconnected the main board from the PSU, and the backlight turned on, which seems to confirm the main board is the issue....
