    Holy mother of TV scores!

You won't believe what i picked up tonight. 6 TVs and one montor for $120!!!

In order of importance, there are:

20" Sharp Aquos 720p, bad CCFLs. Guy told me he replaced the inverter and it worked for 1 more year then the tubes burned out.
30" "Sky" 720p, bad CCFLs and/or inverter. Missing some cables too.
22" Dell monitor, CCFL tubes have been pulled to fix a TV.

And here come the big ones.
37" Philips 1080p CCFL, power board missing, no other details.
40" Grundig (Vestel) 1080p LED, powers on with backlight, no picture.
42" JVC 1080p CCFL, tab bond failures, powers on with picture, left side good, middle good but inverted colors, right side good colors but lagging motion.
And the best for last - 55" LG 1080p LED Seems to boot up, no backlight no picture. It's pretty much the big brother of my 37LE5300, it's a 55LE5500. Same kind of combo mainboard/tcon, so it could very well be the main but it's expensive to get. We'll see. But holy crap this sucker is huge.

Besides the JVC all sets also came with stands.

My boss helped me carry them home, it was interesting fitting all this stuff in the car and carrying it home. I'll be back with pics.

The JVC is first up. I'll let you know what i find.

Nice find. I thought I hit it last night when I picked up a 64" Samsung plasma from 2012 so thin for 50 bucks and only thing wrong with it so far is a fuse. If that's it then it's my best score probably ever

^^ That must have been a bitch to carry.

The guy i got the sets off told me the Sharp has some weird U-shaped CCFLs and he couldn't find any, so that one sounds like a good candidate for a LED tape retrofit.

For the other ones, they have not been messed with, i'm pretty sure.

The seller let me take the back off the 55" LG and also the Sky and the Philips. He seemed like the kind of guy who has the tools but lacks the experience to use them and he's afraid to mess things up more when presented with difficult failures. He works for some people that bring broken stuff by the truckload from Germany, and they have switched from TVs to audio amps and receivers recently, so he was looking to pawn the remaining TVs to free up some room for other stuff.

        Nice.

I love plasma over ccfl/led. I haven't see the new oled tv yet though for any length of time.

I can almost guarantee that LG 55LE5500 has bad LEDS, multiple. Good luck though.

Probably bad mainboard also! ( LG TV ).

These mainboards fail with hdmi chip + cpu chip....

I like plasmas too but i don't wanna imagine carrying a 40" or larger plasma by myself.

The LG is going to be the last one anyway, i need to make some $$ from these other sets, maybe i will order a replacement mainboard if that's the issue.

Jokes, yeah it's hard to get material to work with. The LG should be nice.

Re: Holy mother of TV scores!

I took the Dell monitor into work today as i had to go grab some thermal pads to attempt the tab bond fix on the JVC.

Shining a flashlight on the screen gets this picture, exact same as in the video, minus the horizontal lines at the top i think. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPCzcaTe6Pc

I flashed firmware, no change. Voltages on PSU: OK. Voltages on m/b: OK. Voltages on Tcon: OK. No resoldered components, touched a few tabs with no change. What do you think, CPU or panel? A CPU is $4 from China, maybe it's worth a shot...

I've seen bad caps do this on a dell monitor as well. worth a dry, test the caps.

Nice score, the 40" will be a VES400WNDS-Samsung Panel. Tcon failure on VES400 Samsung panels is very high could be the panel if it got watered down.

                              Status report:

Ordered both main and Tcon processor ICs for the Dell monitor. $6 for both.

JVC had a single tab failure, driver IC to flex. I messed it up completely, could not be salvaged. Had only one position where picture was fully ok, and it put significant stress on the flex. Tried heating it with my soldering iron, crapped out completely.

Grundig - spent a lot of time on this, measured a lot. Panel gets all supply and gamma voltages from tcon, but does not get certain voltages on the tab driver boards. Mainboard seems ok, takes firmware update but still no video. Scoped signals going in and out of Tcon. LVDS data coming in and changing when i press buttons like menu and source. Clock going out to panel, but the data lines seem all dead. My money is on Tcon failure just like you. I found the Tcon processor IC for $8 on aliexpress... I'll order it.

The big mofo LG, i was able to force the inverter on so LEDs are fine. Tcon part of mainboard does not get power and mainboard does not send inverter on signal. Have not investigated further but i am sure Tcon side doesn't get enable signal like i found on my 37LE5300. So it's definitely a fault on the mainboard.

I still have the old broken board of my 37LE5300, guess it's time to swap the EEPROM chips out between good board and broken to narrow it down to firmware or processor. If i fix the 37LE5300 mb i can fix the 55LE5500 one as well.

                              I'm out, wish me luck!

Keep us posted, awesome that LG doesn't have bad leds. Those f**kers are so common these days. Its almost preferred to be anything but LED issue these days. lol

I still have a 47ln5750 apart panel out sitting in my shop. third time blown leds. None available for a good price i almost feel like scrapping it, but apparently a "firmware update" has been released to resolve an issue of back light burning.

Maybe ill do some LED swapping since i have had luck with that.

I love good finds, my best find. Panasonic TC-P55GT30 55 inch Plasma. Watching it right now. Cost me about $15 bux to fix. I picked it up at a local recycling depo not a scratch on it. just sitting there. Man do I LOVE this tv. But i also prefer Plasma picture quality.

That reminds me of my previous TV, a Sharp LC-46XD1E. Bought it dead for 20eu, spent 1-2 weeks poking around, and another 33eu for a new mobo from fleabay. Last month was its 5th re-birthday

That is a good find too. I like sharp as well. Their top end stuff is quality, we Sell a lot of their Panels for pc users for CAD/Design work because of their quality and color/contrast.

It served me well and facilitated many a movie night with friends, as well as serving as extra PC display space (which was its main use). Big-ass 32kg (~70lb) mofo, too

Had to let it go the other month though, due to springing for a cheapo Panasonic 4k

                                          Greetings everyone,

I have a HANNSG Hi221 monitor that exhibits two seconds to black issues (backlight goes off, display is still on as confirmed by shining a flashlight on it) with some additional oddities...

The monitor failed on me with a standard "2 seconds to black" some time ago prompting me to initially replace most of the electrolytic capacitors (some of them were bulging/leaking).
Things kinda sorta worked for a night, then the problem returned along with some flickering and "buzzing" noises.

                                          Upon closer inspection...

                                          Hi,

This monitor previously is my main working monitor which i have been using for 8~9 years. Yesterday, when i switched on my pc from fresh to power on, the monitor is just black no display. I started dismantle to look inside the monitor power board but nothing looks suspicious or burnt. So i took my external ccfl inverter to try to power the monitor ccfl lamps which consisted of 2 lamps on upper part and 2 lamps on the lower part.

Found out the upper ccfl lamp which is supposed to connect to cn304 on the power board did not light up. Then i installed a used working...

Design of CCFL Backlight Inverters with Frame & Bar Cores

                                          Summary

Portable devices, such as notebook computers and personal digital assistants are developed rapidly nowadays, which places an increasing demand on display technology. The LCD with cold cathode fluorescent back lighting satisfies the requirements on display performance, size and efficiency.

The backlight inverter plays a crucial role in supplying the power to the lamps of these flat-panel displays.

The frame and bar ferrite cores, described in this brochure, are especially designed...

Hi, my USB ports were hanging every now and then when starting up. So I decided to update the BIOS of the mother. Unfortunately, after finishing the flashing through QFLASH with a pendrive of the latest firmware version, the cooler turns on, black screen and seems blocked.

                                          Model: GA-A320M-S2H (rev. 1.2)
                                          Processor: AMD A8 9600
                                          Previous BIOS version: F53

I downloaded the F58d version from here (I think it's the correct one)

Is there anything that can be done?...

                                          Please help:

The above laptop with the board number: "GK5MP5X MB V1.0" started with the screen becoming blank when a game was launched, or a higher definition video was being played. It became worse by not displaying at all during boot up, but there are signs that the PC was working every other thing worked except the display.

The PC works normally with HD screen (720p) but no display with a full HD screen (1080p)

I couldn't find any boardview or the schematics for the motherboard.

Please, how do I solve this problem
