Panasonic TC-P50U50 vertical bar 1/4 of the screen

Got home one day to see the left quarter of the screen completely black. Turned the tv off for a few moments and back on, it's come back white and has been that way ever since.

The vertical bar is exactly 1/4 of the screen. When there's a picture, it's usually white. When there's no input, dark grey.

I've described the issue to two repair shops in town, one said PDP and the other T-Con. Please tell me there's hope! I wouldn't mind taking on this project if it actually has a chance!

Lower F address board might have failed but far more likely to be a panel fault.

This looks like a panel fault.

      It's a plasma tv , it does not have a t-con board.
You could try to reseat the cables on the lower c boards , maybe it's dust. Most likely the panel is failing.

Can you post some pictures of the tv? The back cover must be removed.

Thought it was strange that he said that! I won't get a chance to pull it apart until the weekend, so I'll get some pictures of the insides then.

        Thanks everyone!

Okay, so I have it open now, but aside from the dust and what seems to be an extra liberal application of thermal paste on a heat sink, I don't see anything that stands out. Took the pictures as it was, surprised there wasn't more pet hair inside!

Reseat the ribbons connections the address boards would be my first step.

Re: Panasonic TC-P50U50 vertical bar 1/4 of the screen

can you see how the panel ribbons are heat sinked? Just curious. In the 2010 models and earlier each ribbon had it's own heatsink bolted down, in a 2011 U30 I noticed they used a single metal strip bolted down to keep the ribbons heatsinked.

Just a warning don't run the panel without the heatsink on those botttom ribbons if you start to fiddle down there.

Also there in the service menu there is a flip option , both horizontal and vertical.

Looks like similar setup, that silver metal strip running along the bottom with lots of silver bolts in it is the heatsink clamp,I can just see the ribbon heatsinks underneath.

It'd also be interesting to see if those bolts are tight on the left side viewing from the back. They're the same type that worked loose on the SC boards but I think they're less of a problem on solid metal to metal contact.

Reseating the cables didn't do anything, but I definitely want to try replacing the C boards before giving up. Found a troubleshooting guide and it's given me a little bit of hope, especially since it didn't look like the usual 2-3" wide vertical bar or pinstripe of death.

That could also be a reason. Maybe heating the videochip might make a small difference and tell you if the board is defective or not.

That's where going into the service manual and trying the flips may give an indication if it's the A board or not

Hi, for some reason I cannot create new thread. I have the same problem with this model TV. Can someone please confirm most likely cause? Height of the lines adjust to the height of the image being displayed.

Hello, I have a screen in where sometimes when I open it pop-up vertical multicolor lines (I would say the most of them are green). If I tun off and turn on the screen the lines dissapear or if I leave open the screen after approximately five minutes the lines gone. I measured the below voltages on the main PCB and on the T-CON board and the voltages are the same when it doesn’t display the vertical lines and when it displays the vertical lines. Also, I cleaned all the connectors very good with IPA. I moved back and forth the connectors and the COF tabs but the vertical lines didn't displayed...

Hello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!

My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.

This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen...

Samsung LC32HG70QQUXEN - vertical and horizontal stripes across the screen
                                by kotel studios
                                Hi,

Just now my Samsung LC32HG70QQUXEN monitor gave up on me. On cold boots I get many vertical stripes going across the screen (see the attached picture). After it runs for 1-2 minutes those go away but there are horizontal stripes going across the whole screen no matter of the input and PCs I use. (couldn't take an picture of it since the image size goes to 20MB and the camera doesn't pick them up)

In a video about a 27" monitor with an similar issue the guy removes one resistor and supposedly the entire monitor goes back to life? For sure this fix is only temporary....

                                Hey everyone,

I bought a MacBook A1990 with no screen. I bought it knowing the motherboard was defective but wasn't sure what the problem was until I received it. It actually turns on but as you see from the attachment, it has vertical stripes, on an external screen!!

The board is neat. Not opened before for sure. Just a little dust, nothing more.

Recovery using wifi can be opened, as can also be seen in the photo but it doesn't go all the way through after connecting it to a wifi. It downloads the initial Recovery files but never completes the rest of the...
