Vizio M492i-B2 Turns off after 2 seconds

    Hi badcaps members!

When I power it on it will shut off within 2 - 5 seconds.

I do not know how to test the LED drive board on this TV. I had this very problem with a Toshiba and disconnected the dim wire. So I'm already thinking this TV has a bad LED and if there's a trick I can do like the Toshiba to find out.

I'm not sure what any of the wires are going to the LED drive board. So I'm not sure what to do. If anyone can help me it's greatly appreciated!

I unplugged that connector with red arrow shown in the image attached. Powered the TV back on and waited 20 seconds, plugged the connector back in with the TV still powered on and it doesn't shut off.

Looks like I got it from this point.

Can we see good clear pictures of the whole back side of the TV so we can clearly see how all the boards are connected together?
Also GOOD CLEAR pictures of each boards, you pictures you had provided are not good enough to read the labels of the pins of the connectors to find out what they are.

I'm using a crappy cellphone to take pictures. If these are not good enough I'll borrow a digital camera in the afternoon and get better ones.

Wasn't able to take better pictures, but I was messing around with the connectors on the LED drive board. I disconnected these connectors pointed out in the attached image. Then I proceeded to power on the TV.

I then plugged these cables back in one by one with the TV still on. I then powered off the TV once more and turned it back on. It's been working properly ever since I did that.

My guess is there was bad contact on one of those cables.

Look at the connection between the PS board and the LED driver board, specifically the connection on the backside of the PS board. These connections have a tendency to fracture.

It is the connector shown in the fourth picture in post #4.

Thanks, I put the TV back together last night. I left it on for 10 hours and it's still working. If it starts acting up again I'll check out the connection you mentioned.

My guess is that it will fail soon. See this post: VIZIO E550i-B2 Sound - No Video Problem

Thanks for that link. Wish I would of seen it before making a new thread. I only searched for my model TV as I didn't know the 55" used the same boards.

I guess it won't hurt to take it back apart and test my new soldering iron!

I took my TV back apart and inspected the pins on the PSU and LED drive board. They look okay, and no bad joints. TV started acting up again. If I power it up with the LED drive board disconnected then plug them all back in TV doesn't shut off.
Now when the TV is on and I turn the clear action setting on it instantly shuts off the TV. Then when I turn it back on it will shut off after 2 seconds or so.

Found a LED drive board for $5 free shipping so I went with my gut and ordered it today.

                      Thanks for all the help!
