Dad's Tv Meltdown ! Samsung UE40C5000 Repair Log

My dads Tv's decided to take a crap today, it's stuck in a intermittent reboot loop. Sometimes it will start and work fine for a while others it will flash the standby Led forever until switched off at the wall and back on a few times. It's a Samsung UE40C5000 Full Hd 3D Smart Led Tv quite nice image and sound as well IMO.

This thread is going to cover the repair log. I have not opened it yet but will do shortly. In the mean time I have leant him a 42" Technika slimline Lcd Vestel set (Lcd42-910) while I fix this.

Will post shortly on the work needed I'm thinking failed solder joint or as Tom66 had on his 46" Samsung lose wire from Psu to Mobo. Will keep you posted.

I've just fixed a UE40C5100, dry joints around the backlight output causing it to flicker.

Cool thanks for the info, I'm thinking that it's cold joints as well it's a Samsung and they have a habit of breaking solder joints.

You might want to confer with this thread as the person has the same Samsung UE40... with a boot problem that keeps recycling on then off.

The Tv is fixed Was just some broken solder joints on the Psu. I also replaced a couple of caps on the Psu and redoing the thermal paste on the power devices on the Psu as well as adding some little heatsinks to the Bga Ic's on the motherboard.

The Tv has been on for 10mins plus and all working good, where as before it would cut off very fast. Surprisingly the bad joints were mainly on the 5vstby Ic. Going to test it for a good while now. This has 32,345 hours use on it too ! I rest it but wow thats alot of Tv watching dad ! I will keep you updated chaps

Cheers for that, if the solder joints didnt fix it would have started further diagnoses.

First set of images showing the faulty areas with cracked solder joints and the inside of the Tv. Red areas are the parts that need working preforming to them. If you cant tell my dad smokes too lol

Its on almost 18 hours a day ! My little sister and step mom are up at about 7am Tv gets turned on, left on through out the day until 12:30am roughly which is when my dad goes to bed and switches it off. Its worked really well, its only 5 years old too. Impressed for a Samsung tbh

That explains the hours on the TV. Some time I have to check the hours on my old Samsung 32" TV. It's about 9 years old now, never flinched a bit. Low hours guaranteed. Lol

Lol its easy to check, its done well this one has. Any time I go over its on for hours at a time. The backlight is set to 10 which is half so less chance of the Led burning out too.

Well the Tv failed again, same fault I was confident I fixed it as it worked fine for a day but it started with the sound going and then back to restarting. I have found that the motherboard main processor Ic the Bga solder on it is starting to fail when I press on it the Ic the Tv works but when I flick it the Tv messes up.

I have temporarily put some thermal pads on the heatsink to put pressure on the Ic. Im getting Diif to properly reflow the board and will keep you updated

Haha suppose silly intermittent issue, I was sure the Psu joints were bad though they sure looked it but ohh well hopefully sort it again. Im not buying another board which is £70 as hes getting a new one soon any way but doesn't want the Technika or any other Tv I have lol
