Panasonic TH-P50ST30A - re blinking lights error.

    Hi All,

Simon here. I am having problems with panasonic TH-P50ST30A plasma TV and need a little help. I've spent some time over the last few days searching for fixes and thought the best way would be to open this thread and seek
    assistance.

A few days ago the TV suddently stopped working and gave us the 7 red blinking lights. I've taken off the back panel and isolated out the SC (and i presume in doing so the SD and SU boards).

The TV then gave 8 blinking lights.

I then isolated out the SS board and the TV would turn on and allow me to immediately turn the tv off with the remote. however, if i just leave the tv on it turns off after about 10 seconds and gives me a 6 blinkin light warning.

I have not removed any of the boards to inspect the other sides but from inspection of the facing sides of all the boards i cannot see anything to show cracks/damage or burn/short marks.

While the TV had 7 blinks i thought it would be the SC board and would require that to be replaced. however when i isolated the SC board the TV still gave 8 blink warning.

Given that even when i isolate the SC and SS cards it still gives 6 blinks (if not turned off by remote) I am unsure as to what board is the cause. I am also concerned that even if I change either the SC or the SS board that there still may be a problem with whichever board i have not changed (or maybe even the SU or SD boards).

Obviously getting it repaired will depend on cost and i dont want to gamble $300-$400 in getting these boards replaced if its not going to solve the problem.

Does anyone have some insight into this and how i can narrow down what the problem is, which board will be replacing and how to ensure that it will solve the problem.

    Thanks in advance.

Can you check the fets on the sc board on the heatsink? See if any of the 30F131 fets are shorted?

If you removed or fully disconnected the SC at SC2 and SC20 then you will get 8 blinks.

      SC2,SC20 & SS11 disconnected will trigger 6 blinks

7 blinks will be SC,SD or SU boards. Most common failure is the SC, followed by SU board.

Have you searched the model yet because I have a threads on ST30, GT30 and U30 models.

Hi martino - I dont know the technicalities of what you've suggested. Can you explain what i should look for in laymans terms.

TW2005 - not sure what the sc2 and sc20 references are but when i disconnected the SC board it changed from 7 blinks to 8. when i then further disconnected the SS board it changed to 6 blinking lights.

I understand most common failure is the sc but i want to be sure before spending a couple of hundred bucks on the part and for it to actually be ok?

How do i get surity over which part has failed?

Blinking changing as you unplug boards is normal.
Do you own a digital multimeter? Can't be a anolog meter!
Let's say you do: TV OFF and unplugged!
Put the multimeter in ohm mode(where it beeps when you touch the probes together).
On the SC board, look for all the components that are on those large heatsinks, they will have 2 or 3 legs. from left to right let's call the legs 1,2 and 3.
measure between leg 1-2,2-3 and 1-3 and see if the multimeter beeps in any of those combo's.Do this on all 3 leg components on the heatsinks.
If the meter beeps in any of those combo's that tells you that you have shorted out components and thus found your bad board.
Report back your findings as then we need to find out if you also need buffer boards.
