LG 42LC2D Interesting Capacitor

Obvioiusly the samxon caps are bad, but look at the larger 2200uF cap on the far right. I've never seen a cap do this where the sleeve drops from the can. Has anyone else seen this? The cap itsself tests ok so i'm thinking probably just from heat or a faulty sleeve.

It's an old 2006 model LG 42"lcd. Nabbed it for $20. I don't miss the weight of the older LCD tvs. 85 lbs!

cool, never seen domed caps on an LG. Yeah I hate the old ones too, very heavy.

the short sleeve means it's totally cooked!!!
the sleeves on caps are made from thin heatshrink sleeving.

have you ever seen it where the casing of a cap shrivels down like that? Even though the cap is fine? haha

This was very common back in the 1970's and 80s,particularly the black nichicons.Some may remember hitachi TV's with this issue-think the plastic sleeve was not as heat resistant as the cap itself!
