    Samsung LN52A580P6F, 4 blinks Question

I was given this set and told it had issues. I get 4 blinks when I Power On, but the set seems to work fine. I've got it running now with a DVD to see if this is something that crops up after some operating time, but after 1 hour, so far so good.

Any indication what the 4 blinks might be telling me?

Re: Samsung LN52A580P6F, 4 blinks Question

There is no blink code on SAMSUNG it is just normal startup routine, to see the PWR LED blinking in the beginning is normal, but if it keeps on blinking forever then you have problem.

Re: Samsung LN52A580P6F, 4 blinks Question

More than likely, the TV either has bad capacitors on the power supply or needs C102 and C131 replaced on the main board. There are numerous threads about both of these common issues with Samsungs from this era on here. If it were mine, I'd take it apart and upgrade the caps on both the power supply and main board to be safe. That's a nice TV for a Freebie.

Thanks gentlemen. We're into 4 hours of continuous operation with no issues. I plan to re-cap it regardless. Hard top say I shouldn't spend $10-$20 on a set like this.

If it has C102 problem, it will continuously cycle on and off, sometime also makes screeching sound.
Recap for preventive repair will be my choice also, it does not cost that much.

At the risk of sounding foolish, where did they hide the C102 & C131? I'm assuming under the left and right hand side black plastic covers? I've ordered the power supply caps, but I cannot get the set to malfunction. Played it 4+ hours two days ago, and nearly 9 yesterday without a hiccup. I'm almost afraid to mess with it. This from a set I found sitting out, in the rain, on trash day.

Re: Samsung LN52A580P6F, 4 blinks Question

The main board is on the bottom rights, it is the board with Antenna and other input jacks.
if it has C102/131 problem, the caps will be on the bottom side of the board.
As I indicate, the 4-blink is the normal startup routine, it is when it keeps on blinking non stop then that will be problem.

Again, thanks. I'm accustomed to an array of boards, and when I see only a couple it had me scratching my head.

Shopjimmy shows repair kit for the main board, for example:

Notes: I never have to replace the IC, I replaced justthe two SMD caps, and none of them ever come back with the same problem after the caps changed.

Update: Samsung LN52A580P6F, 4 blinks Question

Replaced several caps on the power supply board, ran the set for several hours without problems. I replaced the back and the set won't work (no backlights). I got momentary picture and audio that then goes to black. The going to black initially took several seconds and at one point I hit a "Picture Reset" option in the menu--thereafter I get a click and start-up tone but no picture or audio.

Look at the power supply to see if I had left a bad solder etc., but there's nothing obvious.

I've ordered the shop Jimmy kit, do you have a value for the C131?

C131 is on the top side of the board, same value as C102 but I never have to replace the C131, only C102.

Did a replacement service for the main board. This to correct the typical issue, but apparently not mine. All I get is clicking when trying to turn the set on. Screen remains black, no back light.

Still problematic. I've bought & installed replacement boards on e-Bay (both guaranteed working) for both power supply and main board. Still get a black screen; this after it worked for several hours after I got it and before replacement boards. Any suggestions about a next step? T-Con board or are the inverters problematic? Thanks
