    Hmm, you say, that doesn't look very "ground" to me...!

    That is because it is not a true ground but rather the ground reference for the scan driver ICs (buffer board ICs). These scan drivers select between the VFG (floating ground) and the VFG + VH voltage (which is floating ground + 150V). But as far as these ICs know, it's ground. They are fully isolated digitally and electrically from the normal ground. Though a path to ground from the sustain board output will cause a failure of the sustain board or buffer boards. *THE ONLY PURPOSE* of the scan driver ICs is to select a line to scan on the panel. They apply the 150V VH voltage to select a line and the address / data drivers which run along the bottom of the TV screen program the line with the appropriate pixel data in the given subfield. In this sense, the scan driver ICs are similar to the LCD gate driver ICs, though failure symptoms do vary.

    The VH is often called Vsc, or Vscan... And the floating ground is the same ground reference as used for -Vy or -Vad voltages... Though Samsung calls -Vy the -Vsc voltage just to be confusing... But in general the negative ramp voltage/floor voltage -Vy is around -180V to -220V. And the positive line scan voltage Vsc is +140V to +160V.

    Plasma TVs before 2005 used some different designs that were more expensive to implement but from roughly 2006 onwards all manufacturers standardised on floating ground designs. Hitachi panels are the only exception because they use TERES and ALiS technology which is...strange... to say the least.
    I have Bad and Good experience to this similar problem. After searching and found shorted 30F124 and change both 30F124 in he neighborhood, and check that no other short, I power up the panel, fail again, and found another 30J124 short. Waiting for the spare to arrive, I check all of the solder side, and found alot of solder joint are bad. So, if you found some shorted MOSFET or IGBT, check also the solder joints for Thermal crack.

      I replaced the bulb only on my Toshiba DLP The bulb is a TB-25. This is the first time I've done a bulb only replacement. Supposedly there is a timer module that needs to be re-calibrated or reset. I don't know where the module is located. I see some vendors selling the bulb with the housing stating module included which leads me to think the module is located inside the enclosure the bulb mounts in, but I didn't see it. Maybe it's inside the plug attached to the bulb?

      Anyway - I am seeking information on how to reset this so called module so that the lamp will operate. Apparently...

      LUMIMAN Smart Bulb IC ID?

      Hi,

      I have a LUMIMAN Smart Bulb that suddenly stopped lighting one day. The bulb is still detected in the app, but won't light. I've probed around and nothing seems to look off with any of the diodes, caps or resistors. The Bluetooth/Wi-Fi module seems to be working as it's still detected in the app. I even tried deleting and re-pairing the bulb (it didn't light, but I was still able to follow the pairing instructions), it re-paired fine, but still no light.

      In diode mode, the LEDs all light up when probed so I'm guessing this means the LEDs themselves are OK. I was expecting...

      Power amplifier SMPS IGBT keeps blowing - Artcoustic PDA1000

      hello.

      I have two power amplifiers, both having their IGBT blown on the PSU.
      The original mounted IGBT where marked with IRGB20B60PD1PbF and the gate driver is a IR2156STRPBF.

      I looked at mouser and digikey and could not find any available IRGB20B60PD1PbF and somehow ended up using a Bourns BIDW20N60T.
      I replaced the gate driver, the gate resistor and both IGBT. But as soon power is turned on, both IGBT shorts out completely (gate, emitter, collector) and the fuse on the AC line gets killed.

      So I though i missed a capacitor or diode. I removed...

      Problem

      This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

      Replacing incandescent bulb on Pioneer LD player with led. Need help :)

      I have a pioneer dvl-909 LD/dvd player from 1998. It has a light on the front panel that lights up when you play a dvd. I removed the bulb and it appears to be a tiny incandescent bulb. Its measures "open"/dead and the bulb is black like it's blown. The socket it fits into measures 5v. I've looked up the schematics and there's no indication of the amperage. I don't want to spend any money on new parts, but I have a pack of like 100, 3v, 20ma LEDs and I have various resistors.
      Is there a way for me to determine the amperage going to the old dead bulb with my multimeter?
