LG 50PK550 Red vertical line on LHS of panel

    Hi there,

My LG Plasma (LG 50-PK550) has started to develop a thin red line on the left hand side of the screen. I've run a pattern test by shorting the jumpers on the control board, but the line is still there, so I've put the inputs out of the equation.
So, my question, is it the control, X-board or the panel kaput?
I dont think its the latter 2, as red, black, white and gray still display, but I'd like to have your point of view.

    Thanks alot and kind regards,

    Michael

That'll be a COF Chip or Tab issue.

These are part of the panel itself and not repairable.

You can check the bottom connectors on the boards to and from those COF, they'll be under that long metal rail that's along the bottom of panel--Itll be the one in line with the line--if you see what I mean...

Vizio M65Q7-H1 Red Vertical Strips fixed by tape blocking LC1 signal to half of the panel

          Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

          Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

To fix laptop screen vertical line by working on its EDP cable
          by almarhum
Has one here really gone through fixing laptop screen vertical line(s) by repairing/replacing its Embedded DisplayPort (EDP) cable, so would recount and share the complete steps of the process here now?

As most, if not all, believe the laptop screen vertical line(s) caused by defective Embedded DisplayPort (EDP) cable which slipped and passed through either laptop screen hinge but post here is asking help to elaborate definitively the useful, real knowledge of repairing in the most complete, correct way, esp. can decide/determine whether the cable can still be fixed or must be re...

Samsung 55" UN55JS9000 - Pink vertical lines due to chipped LCD panel?
          by Anonmis
Hello all, I was recently repairing my Samsung 55" UN55JS9000 tv from the common burnt backlight LED's and cracked light guide panel issue. After replacing the LED's and putting the TV back together, I tested the tv and all I was getting was sound but no image. Somewhere along the way (could be related to the next issue) the T-Con board became damaged and after replacing it I have made a little bit of progress but now have bright pink vertical lines and still no image.

The bigger issue .... I took the TV apart again and realized that I likely didn't sit the LCD panel correctly...

IR night vision goggles to find shorted panel line?
          by Lee M.
Has anybody tried to use IR night vision goggles or other thermal imaging device to find a shorted line in a ribbon cable going from a panel driver board into the panel? I would think the shorted line would get hotter than the other lines and might just show up on a thermal imaging device. Just wondering if anyone has tried this and if so did it work?
