    Philips 50PF9631D/37 Half Screen

Hello ! I just got this Philips 50PF9631D/37 Plasma, from a customer who was told repair was 1000$ into another shop. I opened the unit up, powered it on after they 'estimated' it, and found a 35V cap soldered upside down. Well, i found out after powering on the display and found it smoking on the power supply.

So, i replaced that caps, installed it the proper way, and tadam, tv powered on. The owner, first stated the set was dead.

So now, here's the result i get,

For some reason, the pictures look like there's some yellow banding, but there's not. There's a yellow huge stain/spot in the middle, and colors are weird in the bad half, but the good half look perfectly black, and then if i press 'menu' i get a very clean meny in half of the tv.

Anyone got a clue where i could start, could it still be caps related in the psu ?

I tried using freezeit and heating the psu with a hairdryer, but it didn't make a difference. It's weird, half of the screen is very clean. Any input would be very appreciated, keep in mind i'm a computer technician, just doing these tv's once in a while for fun. Thanks !!!

I agree bad Panel, possibly will need a Tab bond repair.

Really weird. The guy said there was a surge, and it completely stopped working, no power nothing. They had the tv in the repair shop for 6 months !

When they brought it here, the tv was laying flat in the van. Could it be damage from the transport that caused this ?

Any cowboy way of doing the tab bond repair, like erasers or something that could give this one some more life ? Thanks for any info !

Anyone knows if it's worth it to take it completely apart to look at the tab bonding for possibly fixing, of if it's a waste of time and should go to the recycling as is ? Thanks

Thats a "defective" panel indeed. They probably already tried to remove the lcd panel from the tv and failed. The tab bonds are damaged.

You can try to remove the bezel and apply some pressure on the tabs and see if the screen turns back to normal. Its your only option.

Since this is a plasma I'm not 100% convinced the panel is bad. I would check that the Va fuse on the lower address boards is good. Also, check the cables are seated. Do not unplug or plug in Va with power connected as you may cause damage to the panel (if it ain't already knackered...)

I didn't even need the model number to tell it's a plasma you can see the blue-yellow banding from the subfields. As seen here in slow motion:
                  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWecqe04DTI

if a CMOS camera with a slow shutter takes the picture it'll appear in blue-yellow bars
