Working beautifully now after replacing the Q661.

Added a few heatsinks to the transistors and diodes to prevent it from blowing up again. Then screwed the back panel on.

    Job done...
I've installed the missing parts to the working board, and everything works perfect.
On my original board I think it was the IC921 faulty, but I'm not so sure, so it was better to complete the working board than moving the IC921 to do more tests...

In this case I'll install the missing parts and heatsinks to the AF board...
    The AD board looks identical with this AB model;

OK then, if the 5351AC is from a 46" model, then this means it's not the original one from my TV, and it was replaced; very possible... still, the good one that I have, wich is a 5351AF, that I'm sure is from a 50U30, will be able to resist on my tv? I left the TV ON with it 5-7 minutes, and it was still cold.
who know's, without the manual a bit of a guess. just googled the model and there's an AB version saying it's from that which is a bit of an oddball with the full sized heatsinks suggesting it's a thicker chassis.

the AF is in our 50U30

doing a bit more digging and could be some wrong info out there as I clicked on a link stating AC for the 46 and then found it was an AG pictured

AC looks similar to the AB

Yeah ok. I guess that's where it's good to start your own thread on different models. I was thinking you were talking about a gt.

Looks like Rev AC is a 46" version so there may be different caps and coils used to match it to the panels you will have to check but it would produce a picture.

    1. on this board, q402-403, q422-423 are 30f131, and on tv's original board, q4001-403 and q421-423 are DG301. I did not find anything about dg301, and have no ideea if they are the same as 30f131 or they are "smaller", and 3 of these are equal to 2 of those in terms of power ?!
    2. on this board d481-2 and q441-2 / d461-2 q451-2 are rf1501 and dg402 (smd), and on tv's board rf2001 and rjp30k3 (non smd)

with the heatsinks it will be simple to fit in, I have some of them from some crashed buffers, and I'll fit them with thermal glue. The main question is that if this board will resist on this tv until I will manage to fix the original or more if I wont, or I must install the missing parts...
by the way, the opto was ok, I installed a sure good one, and same thing: in one second, q661 went out.

P.S. interesting thing... lifetimer says 18 hours ?!?! can this be real?
Sorry to hear that opto swap did nothing, I wish I knew for sure how I fixed mine. very hard when things keep blowing as there may have been something else I replaced but the opto failed after too many blow outs. I'll never know. I don't remember if I replaced the 5 pin transistor that is driven by that opto or not. The board is in the TV so I can't view it.

that's why we need more histories in the forums to learn from.

18 hours, seems wrong unless the A board had been replaced with a new one for the same fault. 18 hours may have been clocked up in the factory.?

Not sure why you want to use the 5351 board. It's a 2D TV model it came from so going 3D may be interesting or risky?

The PC461 transoptor in many SC boards--A BLACK one, Not the White one, has integral op-amps and is a dual device, so not easy to test without building a circuit to test it properly--Not much point--They are cheap from China.....

Best just replace it whenever there's a blow-up on the SC...

The opto that TW talks about the TLP705 is a high speed switching unit that can switch the output high and low at very high speeds not easy to test

Testing opto's are best done by removing them from the circuit board. If it's a transistor / led combination then using your meter in diode mode to test the diode portion.
The transistor (normally the output pins) is a little trickier. If short circuit then obviously faulty otherwise I build up the simple circuits as shown on the internet to test them.

Using a 5V supply the led resistor is 470 ohms and the collector resistor > 10K ohms.

oops... my bad: not 5331, i mean 5351 (5335 is on the GT)
And yes, I'sure it's just the 661 blown, and the rest is ok. I'll change the opto today or on monday, put a 30f131 and give a shot without the buffers.
Maybe on your board the 621-623 went out because you had the buffers connected ?! I want to fix the board, even if I find another one to start the TV...
how can I check the opto? or just change it?

I have a tx-p50gt30 and a tx-p50gw30, and bought both of them faulty.
They both had sc board faulty, and even more...

    1) I managed to repair the gt: I had 2 SC boards (5335): original board with q401-q403 and q421-q423 blown and a board with q621-q623, q600 and q661 blown. since I did not find any specific kit for the w621-q623 failing, like you mentioned, I started to repair the original board from the tv, and I took the IGBT transistors from the other boards. also, I replaced q531 and ic502 just in case. all good until now and the tv is working. still I would like to repair the other board some day...

    2) With the gw, things were not so good... the guy before me tried to repair it, but he managed to get things worse: initialy it has 7 blinks; he took off the sc20 and then it has 8 blinks. he insisted that it must have 6 blinks like the '20 generation, and he thougth that it has a ss board problem, and... while trying to take it off, he ripped one flat band from the screen, the upper one from the SS ((( after that, he gave me the tv for spare parts. After some ours of work, I managed to repair the band, with a terminal from another broken panel. I had to remove the panel from the housing because there was not enough space to work. After that, I crossed my fingers and gave a shot with a SC board from another tv, and I found that the panel is OK. all good until now, but i must repair the SC, tnpa 5331. It had just one q622 and q661 blown (30f131 and rjp63). q600 looked OK. I replaced them, and when I started the tv with the buffers disconnected and the SC50 shorted, the tv started green, for about a second I had a buzz and went off. the only thing found dead was only q661. now I am stuck, I dont know what to check or replace, and I dont have another rjp63 to test. After reading you topic I found out about the opto, but I dont have another one that I am sure it is ok to compare and test again. I have just the one from the faulty tnpa5335, but that board is blown the same way, so maybe it has is bad too.
    so... any suggestion?
I am curious, in case I find the problem on the board, can I give a shot with buffers disconnected, with a 30f125/30f131 instead of rjp63? or should i wait for another rjp63 that I ordered... what can happen if I do so?
I am thinking to look for another tnpa5331 blown in the common way, because I know that I can fix that one
a pic with the flat band:
    https://s23.postimg.org/iadrhvdzv/IM...0414-00058.jpg
I'd be ordering the transistors in bulk. I think I ordered 5 and just got it done with 1 to spare .

    I don't think it's worth chancing a 360V transistor in place of a 630V and it's 10 amps lower.

I think you mean 5335, not 5331 as that is the SS.

The TLP705 is fairly common on the panasonic SC boards if you had some others laying around and you do have a good one to compare to on the working board.

Definitely sure all of Q621-623 not shorted with Q661 shorted?

I'm not terribly confident with these but it does appear if Q661 is shot it's a tricky one.

It's weird but all I know is I got mine to briefly run and after 2 successive failures it never ran again but made that buzz and popped straight up the third time.

A lot of head scratching and then figured I'd check that opto which I took out of cct in the end to get a proper read.

All I know is since I replaced that and the usual Q661 and whichever 30f131 that blew and it's been running good for 6 weeks now.

I tried searching for other reports of the same failure with Q661 and found little let alone any solution.

So I can't really give you an answer, all I can give you is what I did and the results.

Sure if you can find a board with the more common fault they appear easier but I think it'd be nice to learn how to do the hard ones too.

I perservered because I had an extra board. Could have let it go but I now have the GT working and a working spare SC which is probably worth as much as the TV itself broken.

this shows the bad opto I had. Has the toshiba logo but I forgot the TL is not shown, just the P705 but TLP705 is the full number.

I did replace a driver IC and a small driver pnp/npn transistor, but mine still failed after that . Did that opto and all good but I'm pretty confident the 621,622,623 when they short then they take out the q661

    Hi,
anyone able to provide the service manual for old plasma Panasonic TX-P42ST50E?
It turns off almost immediately (0~5 seconds after pressing the on/off button) and starts flashing the red diode 6 times.
I disconnected the left-hand side board (SC?, both the ribbon cable and the power cable to it) and also another ribbon going to bottom left board. Then the led signal is 8 flashes. According to service guide to another Panasonic plasma it would mean the left-hand side board is faulty. But I'm not sure it 100% applies to my model.
I checked that board for any obvious faults...

    Hello,

Stopped by this site trying to fix my parents Panasonic Plasma TV.

    Model number is TH-50PZ85U

Power comes on and the red power light stays on solid.

Did a few checks like hold the power button on for 60 seconds, hold the - Volume while holding the menu button, no luck, still@ blank grey screen as the screen lights up very vague.

I also hear a few clicks.

I also think my parents said there was a thunderstorm and the TV failed after that.

Section 6 in the service manual talks about power and no screen,...

    Hello,
My Oct 2012 panny plasma quit working yesterday.
It was on when it happened. It let out a bit of burned plastic/circuit board smell. I was not able to find any burned parts though.
Now it produces 8 blinks. According to the repair manual, that points to SS/SS2 board(s).
I completed the steps in the guide: unplugged SS33, the TV turned on with a black screen, no blinking codes. Then I checked the continuity between pins 1 and 2 of the connectors SS52, SS54-SS57. The continuity is ok in all of them. Guide suggests to replace SS/SS2 boards so I placed an order...

Bought this TV used not working, panel flashed briefly on power up and it was blinking 8 times, a quick look on SS board revealed a common fault on the 3uF 250V capacitors, C201 to C205 (C1620X in the service manual), the solder joints were all cracked, C201 and C205 pins were darkened and some sparking had occurred on them, C201 was split open and clearly overheated in its last hours, replaced that one and resoldered the others, 8 blinks fixed.

Also the previous owner broke the antenna connector by taking the TV out of the wall mount forgetting to unplug it, I desoldered the tuner...
