4 LEDs bad? And you're thinking of trashing the set?

Pop the lens off one of the bad ones, and use two soldering irons to remove the LED. Try to get it off in one piece. Once off, we can determine the polarity of the LED and spend the $1 to get new ones to replace the burned out ones. If you don't know how to do something, ASK!!!

I bought a new one yesterday on sale, w/ a 5yr fix or replace plan. Now the failed one, with be my project TV. And if I can fix it, will become the kids gaming/movie set.

I'll try removing one of the LEDs, and let you know.

Here's a photo of the LED with lens removed.

I can't see how to get it off, without destroying the strip. And how to get a new one back on?

U need to heat with heat gun or soldering iron to remove. Its better if you dont have the experience to find some strips from a trashed set on ebay.

            Re: Samsung UN46EH5000, No Backlight

To remove the bad LED, apply one soldering iron to one side and one on the other. When the solder flows, slide the LED off the pad. Sometimes you can add 60/40 solder to the pads if they are visible to make the solder flow easier (alloys the hi-temp crap to a lower melting temp).

Do not use a heat gun to remove the LED if you've never done it before.

You're going to have to post a better picture - one where the LED covers 70%+ of the picture.

It's actually quite easy. But first, get yourself a pair of calipers and measure the LED, X, Y and Z. You will also need some Sn60/Pb40 solder (0.020" to 0.032" in diameter) and some paste flux (NOT ACID flux, but ROSIN flux for electronics).

We'll do this one step at a time.

any luck in replacing the led's? i bought a led tester for $40 on ebay and it shows 5 leds are out. i managed to take out the leds with a heat gun but dont know what led's to buy. i see several on aliexpress and digikey but not sure which one to order. from using the tester, the leds are reading 3.1v. these from aliexpress seems very close in design and great feedbacks but not sure about the specs.

I use these SAMSUNG LEDs not the LG because the large pad substrate for dissipating the heat is Cathode is used in SAMSUNG LED, the LG has ANODE for large pad.
I bought both LG and SAMSUNG LEDs for repair.

i saw those samsung leds from aliexpress but the size is slightly bigger than the ones on the strips. my measurement show 3.5x3mm. the samsung led is 3.5x3.5mm. anyways, i will order the samsung led and try to solder paste it on. thanks for your help.

No. I tried to remove one by heating with a soldering iron, but when I tried to remove it, the LED disintegrated. So, I probably going to need to purchase whole strips, if I can find some for a reasonable price.

i took the strips off and used a heat gun and heated it from under the strip. couple of minutes later the led on top got hot enough to move with a tweezer. there were no burn marks left at the bottom either. still waiting for the led's from aliexpress.

heres a youtube video I'll try to repair with except I'll use the heat gun from under the strip to not damage the led's. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uBhca7zyXI

From past experience and advice on Badcaps; order an LED that can handle >300mA and Vforward >3V, sized about 3mm x 3mm x 1mm. The color temp ideally should match what you already have. I would error on the side of daylight color temp, 6000 to 7000K or try several colors to most closely match what came with your TV.

so i got the leds from aliexpress and soldered them on. it measured 3.1v like the OEM's but once i put the plastic cap on, it wasnt as blueish like the others. it looks slightly less bright too. the bottom of the led's design also didnt match the positive and negative square design but it did solder on using solder paste and heat gun. from another youtube video someone suggested using this http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...6-1-ND/4031760

i'll give it try and hope 5000k will match.

I could not tell the difference between the original LEDs and the replacement.

Same issues. Replaced T-con and PSU...no joy. Took the LED strips to a repair shop here in Boston area. They replace two bad LED's. Still the same. Is there a way to manually apply voltage to the LED interface board and see if the individual strips light up. Not sure what else to do...

So did they test the whole LED string as a whole when they test to verify that the whole string of the LED is good?

If that is true then you need to upload the pictures of YOUR board and the Voltage reading at the LED connector.
