    Sanyo DP47840

Thanks to anyone and everyone that can help.

Would heating a capacitor up with a heat gun / hair dryer give it some extra life it was on it's way out?
It show no signs of bulging at all.

I have this 47" Sanyo tv Model#dp47480 and it won't turn on.
I had a feeling it was the first 2 resistors in the power section and so I replaced them.
    Then the TV turned on.
After I turned it off and it would sporadically turn on and off when i pressed the power button.
So then I went and got a hair dryer and heated the 2 main capacitors and bam the TV turns on instantly.
I am in the process of checking all the solder point in that are but what I am thinking is when i soldered in the new resistors it heated the caps a bit and that's why it turned on. There are a few other components in the area but my real question is.

"So then I went and got a hair dryer and heated the 2 main capacitors and bam the TV turns on instantly." Are you talking about the 450VDC main filter caps in the primary side of the power supply? Pictures?
When cap is heat up the ESR will go down, so if the bad cap has high ESR the circuit will not function properly so when the ESR goes down the circuit will work again.
Bad cap can look normal, that is why you need to at least test the capacitance and the ESR of the suspected bad cap.
May it is the strat-up/running caps close by that are bad.

      Re: Sanyo DP47840

Sorry I have a basic multimeter that does ohms, volts, and amps.
It does not have an option for capacitance.
I have the service manual and they are capacitors c608 and c614.
      They are 250v - 470uf.
I have considered I could be heating something else up and I am not sure how to go about figuring out which caps they are without upgrading to a new meter. I would say that it is the start up caps that are bad since once the TV is on it runs fine. Had it on for 2 hours today after it started. Not sure which caps are responsible for starting it. I am uploading a picture of the power section and the area I heated up. There are some other smaller caps in the area.

Here is a link to the manual.

        Re: Sanyo DP47840

I would replace C619. This capacitor develops the auxiliary voltage that powers the PWM IC after the initial kickstart. These capacitors are often responsible for intermittent startup problems.

OK hit that one with some heat and the TV popped on right away!
Gonna check it again in a bit.

          Think this is the cap!

Got the new cap in the mail and it works perfect.
Thanks again. If the TV goes out or anything else happens I'll let you know.
I'm about to get the 42" Sanyo DP42849 off craigslist for $40 hopefully just as easy a fix.

              Hair dryer in water
              by Cmat2l
              Hello everyone!
I dropped a hair dryer in the water after using it. I pulled it out fast but it was still hot, plugged in the mains and switched off. Still in warranty but the shop I bought it is in another country. The local repair shops asked 50-60 eur for repair. The dryer cost 60 so I was thinking maybe there is smthng I could do to fix it my self. I took it apart but I reached the point that I cant understand what the problem might be. I dont have electronics knowledge. Just some basic electrical.

There are 3 leds that are blinking when is plugged in but it does...

Schematic vs. Reality: Where Are the Resistors on My Sharp Clock Radio? Model FY-70CH
              by TinkerTron
              Hey everyone,

I'm currently working on a mid-70s Sharp Electronic Digital Clock Radio, Model FY-70CH. I found the service manual online, printed it out, and have been studying it for a while. My main reasons for tackling this are: (1) I want to learn electronics and figured I'd start with something I had on hand, and (2) I want to fix its issues. Right now, the radio sounds awful, has about 5V DC at the speaker terminals, and the alarm time setting doesn't work. But I'm not asking how to fix these problems.

Instead, here's what's been bugging me so far:
              The schematic...

              Whirlpool dryer control board
              by Eaglecrest
I have a Whirlpool dryer that runs for a while then stops with a blinking timer screen. The dryer can't be reset by hitting any input and if you pull the plug and plug it back in it also won't respond. Light is on in the drum when you open the door, but no other sign of life. If I leave it unplugged for a period of time, which is multiple days, it runs again. May be able to get a load done, but now seems to be less than full load before it errors out.

Since unplugging will get it to work, I am assuming that there is an error condition that is causing the onboard processor to shut...

              Panasonic Heatpump Dryer Repair
              by BigPete
I picked up a Panasonic NH-P70G2, though it would apply to the NH-P80G2, NH-P70G1 and NH-P80G1 models as well, as maybe some other models. This one was coming up with a H86 error. After lots of testing and googling it was an error with one of the thermistors in the condenser area.
The attached French service manuals is incorrect, TH11 is gray and is a 95k thermistor and TH12 is black and is a 35k thermistor.
In my case TH12 was bad. I was able to get a 35k thermistor on AliExpress. It's 6mm in diameter.
Unfortunately the whole machine has to come apart to fix it.
              I have...

Bosch 12V and 18V chargers modification
              by Petr0x
Hi, I would like to share with you small modification to your Bosch tool 12V and 18V chargers.

You can use it for almost all Bosch chargers what I have seen, for example part numbers GAL 18V-20, GAL 18V-40, GAL 1880, GAL 18V-160, AL 1820, AL1115CV, AL1130CV.

Bosch (today also other brands using the same system like Wurth, Fein) does not care if you destroy your batteries, because they can sell you new ones. So the marketing is telling you only about speed of the charging, so you will not wait for your batteries to charge too long. Me as a customer want the tools and batteries...
