Got it thank you! This is not my area of expertise though I am handy with electronics. I extracted the flash from the locked bios chip I removed from the board, and worked with a repair shop to have it's unique parameters flashed back onto the new chip with the new chip unlocked. Once I get the 33ohm resistors in, I'll give the repair another try. Thank you for your help!...

33ohm is common for these? Maybe that's my problem then. I'm going to see if I can source some. You don't happen to have a link where I can learn more about the 33ohm resistor being the standard for these chips do you?...

I see what you're saying. I looks like Pins 3 and 7 are the same on the W25Q128FV, only difference being it's 3v vs 1.8v on the W25R256JWPQ. 1K vs 10k could make bit of a mA difference but not by much. It seems low risk to try out 10k on both pad sets....

It could be the desktop Surface Studio 1 you have diagrams for. I was unable to find the laptop gen1 schematics anywhere

I'll test the VCC connectiona today, thank you!

Hot Air Blew Away Resistors Near Bios
Hi All - I'm in the midst or reprogramming the bios on my gen1 Surface Laptop Studio and I accidentally blew away 2 resistors nearby the bios. I don't have another board to measure values of the missing resistors and schematics aren't available, bbut the bios is a 6x5mm Winbond WSON8, W25R256JWPQ model. The traces are conductive to Pins 3 and 7 (IO2 & IO3 respectively) so I have reason to believe they are 10k pull up resistors since IO2&3 pins are used for Quad SPI instructions.
Does anyone with more knowledge, and experience than I, know if this is the case?
...

Got it loaded onto the board successfully, but accidentally blew away two resistors of unknown value. I suspect they're 10k pull up 0201's because they're connected to pins 3 and 7 (IO2 and IO3) but don't have access to another board to measure :-(...

Well, I did my best. Got the new bin on and bios on board, but blew away two tiny caps or resistors in the process. Looks like I'll be on the hunt for a new motherboard. :-(...

Confirmed I need to program direct to the chip. Thanks for the help!

Hi all, I'm Paul. I bought a used Surface Laptop Studio 1 and boy has it given me some trouble. I got Windows onto it luckily, but it has a locked UEFI which wouldn't be a problem except the previous owner turned off secure boot.
I've run CSME 15 and pulled a bios dump so now I am trying to see if anyone can help me before I buy a used known unlocked BIOS chip off ebay and solder the thing in.
I'll make a dedicated post. I'm pretty new to all this, good to be among the crowd though. Cheers.
