Samsung UE46D5005 2x5 red blink, no picture

Greetings, when I tried to power on my tv the other morning all I got was a flashing standby led.

The TV is a Samsung UE46D5005 that I've had since it was new in 2011.
    Power supply is a BN44-00422A

    The symptoms are as follows:
    - When power plug is connected standby led is lit steady as normal.
    - When attempting to turn on the TV by remote or front panel the standby led is flashing in a 2x5 sequence. 2 rapid flashes in a series of 5 then a pause until the sequence start over.
    - When power plug is connected after being out for just a brief period the TV instantly goes to the 2x5 blinking stage without having to try to turn on the TV first.
    - Screen is completely dark at all times.

After visual inspection all electrolytic caps seems fine. No sign of damage on power supply or motherboard. 3 of the caps showed 0 farad on my DMM out of circuit so I swapped two them for same size and voltage rubicon ones, the 3rd which initially was a 25V 390uF I swapped with a 25V 560uF.

The two fuses I've located passed continuity check.

The big 87uF 450V cap shows 320V steady regardless if mainboard and/or led strips are connected or not.

When mainboard is disconnected and AC plugged in pin 14(PS_ON) measure 3.3V, pin 12(A5V) measure 5.4V. All other pins 0V.

When mainboard is connected pin 14(PS_ON) goes to 0V, pin12(A5V) remains at 5.4V. All other pins are still 0V.

Strange to me is that several of the caps in the area close to backlight connector shows 0V as if that part of the board never gets turned on. The 200V 68uF, 25V 560uf (upper right) and 25V 390 uF(upper center next to mainboard connector) are the ones showing 0V.

Things I've tried after reading a lot on the forum:
    - Soft reset with remote. No change.
    - Unplug mainboard then connecting AC plug. No change. No backlight.
    - Unplug backlight. No change.
    - Hard reset by shorting EEPROM. No change.
    - Tried measuring the wires going to the led strip, result is in the million Ohm range, however I don't know how useful this measurement is or how to interpret it.
    - I attempted to access the LED strips for continuity check today but for some reason none of my phillips heads were a good match for the screws so I left it alone before I started stripping heads.

So... what to do? How to rule out the good components and trace down the culprit? Thanks for reading my post.

So when you disconnected the cable between the power supply board and the main board and then apply the power to the TV, the backlights do not come on?

      Thank you for replying budm.

That is correct, no backlight when AC is connected and mainboard is disconnected.

"When mainboard is disconnected and AC plugged in pin 14(PS_ON) measure 3.3V, pin 12(A5V) measure 5.4V. All other pins 0V"

Since you do have PS-ON on pin 14, then the DCV on the main filter cap should be close to 400VDC, so the PFC Voltage booster is not working.

Is the PFC voltage booster in a package or comprised of several components on the board? How can I troubleshoot it?

It is a circuit consisting of IC, MOSFETS, DIODES, Inductor, caps, ETC.
We will need REALLY GOOD CLEAR pictures of the power supply board, both top and the bottom side to trace out the connections.
The pictures you upload are cloudy/foggy looking.

Yep. The PFC isn't working, so it wont turn on all of the power rails. 320V is too low for 240AC with PFC. Sounds like you are just getting rectified 240VAC, which is ~320V, nothing boosted. Look hard at the PFC IC and post the numbers on the IC, so we can pull the spec sheet.

It has to be this kind of quality, for example, this is the pictures of BN44-00422B from shopjimmy. The layout is not the same as the 'A' version so I cannot use it for tracing..

No pics yet, but a change in behavior of the SMPS.

As I was checking voltages the voltages started pulsating. I was measuring on the large part in lower center of the SMPS with a white sticker saying PD46A0N PFC, NY1 101 CDK. As well as the similar but smaller part labeled UM-STB, E173643 TN, YCI-130 1051AS just above center on SMPS.

Now Voltage on the large cap rises to aprox. 390V then dropping to 0V according to DMM. And the 200V cap to the far right has sprung to life as well this is pulsating up to aprox 150V. The pulses come a couple of seconds between, all though I haven't timed them precisely.

During measurements the SMPS were disconnected from the rest of the system.

The power supply has pull-up resistors so you do not have to connect the resistors for forcing on the power supply section and the backlights, not like the older SAMSUNG power supply board.
So the PFC Voltage did start up and the LED driver circuit which requires the boosted Voltage to work.
At this point I would do real close visual inspection for bad connections on the board.

                          SMPS disconnected from system:
During this pulsing the header on SMPS that connects to mainboard show OV on all pins apart from pin 12 A5V that is showing 5.3V
When pin14 PS_ON is shorted to ground the SMPS stabilize showing 325V on main cap. However now the 200V cap close to backlight connecter show 0V.

SMPS connected to backlight, disconnected from mainboard:
                          Stable, showing 320V on main cap, PS_ON 3.3V, A5v 5.3V

At this point my situation sounds very similar to shorted LED's problem from another thread on the forum. But then again, shouldn't I see a picture when using a flash light if that were the case?

I think you are doing something not right. The standby voltage is always there, but the other voltages just start when a PSON and a BLon signal from the main board is applied to the PSU. Next thing is that if the PFC isn't working (roughly 400vdc) on the main cap, you won't get all power rails up either.
To check the backlight, you have to verify that the PSU is getting a PSON and a BLon signal from the main board. Then measure the power on the connector. You may have to use your meter on min/max because the power might ramp up and down too fast for your meter. You have to do that for each led strip.

When I measured BLon (pin 6) with mainboard and back light connected to SMPS it said OV between BLon pin and ground. I didn't try max min mode though on either mainboard connector or back light connector, will do that.

Thanks for helping me out with this.

Since there is no BLon signal there wont be anything on the backlight. Try this again: Disconnect the main board from the PSU with the backlights plugged in, take measurement of the backlight voltage in min/max VDC (may be 100V or so), then disconnect everything from the PSU, plug it in and take a reading in min max from the backlight connector.

                                  Good news! And bad news...

As I was setting up to measure voltage after advice from CapLeaker the back light were shining through the inspection holes (mainboard disconnected, backlight connected, AC connected). I reconnected the main board and tried powering on the TV, its now working as normal. This was the first time I connected the SMPS back into the system after it started pulsing during volt measurements on voltage amplifier and voltage modulator as mentioned earlier in a post. It would seem the fault were bad connection in one of those components, however I couldn't reproduce the fault so I can't say for sure.

If the TV stops working again I will test for continuity in the coils on PFC and PM and re-solder all the connections on the aforementioned parts. Until then I'll enjoy it as long as its working.
Thanks a lot for the assistance.

interesting... well things like that do happen! Clean the connectors and pins good, put some deoxid on it and hopefully she will serve you for years to come!

                                      Returning customer here!

Well it was great for as long as it lasted. The TV is not working again, and the symptoms are the same as in post #1.

I will try and recreate the event where it suddenly sprung back to life last time, I'm not to optimistic though. Will get back to you with an update when thats done.

Should anyone have additional advice I'm all ears!

                                        It's me again.

I am looking to buy a new power supply board for my TV in this thread. The current psu is labeled BN44-00422A. Are there other models that will be compatible with my TV as well?

Would for instance this board work? Even though it looks a little different.

                                          Hello everyone,
Ive got a UE60KU6079 on the workbench that is giving me some headaches trying to troubleshoot.
The previous owner stated that there had been white dots on the screen which from the description sounded like some lenses fell of the backlight LEDs.
He had opened the TV from the back, trying to get to the backlight, supposedly gave up, reassebled everything and gave the TV to me.
I expected the worst like ripped COF cables or a cracked panel but could not find anything like that yet.
Anyway I still fully expect that there has been something seriously damaged...

This was my main TV for the last 6 years. I'm not inclined to throw out a $2600 TV so quickly so I'm trying to investigate the issue.

                                          Problem
TV was disconnected from power for 6 months during construction. When I plugged it yesterday picture was fine, after 30 seconds it dimmed then started developing horizontal lines, picture then starts to ghost vertically until it degrades into vertical streaks. TV always displays a perfect picture when cold. I can unplug TV for 5 minutes and plug it back in and picture is restored for 20 seconds. I can also keep it in standby mode...

                                          Hi All,

                                          Need help.

I have a samsung un60j620dafxza led tv. When I plug it in it has no display, no sounds, and no standby lights.

So I opened the tv and disconnected the power to the mainboard and the backlight powered up. This according to many people says that this is a mainboard
problem. I checked the voltage coming from the stb and I read 1.3 volts on pins 1,3,5 and 7 which are low volts instead of 13 volts which i think the lcd panel
might be drawing too much power from the power supply that it prevents the right voltage going to the mainboard....

I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and
