Hi,
I thought I would share my learnings trying to fix an RCA 40" LCD TV, and hopefully get guidance on where to go from here. The story so far:
1.TV had AV board issues similar to someone constantly pressing the buttons on the remote; channels would constantly change in rapid succession, such that nothing displayed except the display for the input, which scrolled incessantly.
2. I had found an AV board for a 42 inch version of the same TV. The boards are very much identical, but I assume have different software. Swapped out with this board and it worked, only the picture was solarized.
3. Eventually found the method to get to the factory service menu, at this site: http://www.docin.com/p-321653729.html (this method is not listed here, so perhaps it will be useful to someone else: on remote, press picture, highlight "contrast" in the menu, press 9 7 3 5) Playing with the RGB gain and offset values, I could eliminate the solarization and get a decent picture.
4. I then spent considerable time going in out of factory mode trying to optimize the RGB values. On my last iteration while adjusting the values, the picture suddenly went black. I still hear sound, and the menus still appear, just no HDMI or TV images. Tried resetting to factory settings using the menu (I can still function all the menus), but no luck.
Will reflashing/updating the sofware fix this? I tried searching for software for the tv, but could find nothing. Another question might be which software should I search for: the 40 or 42 model? Or did I "brick" the chip and there's no hope?
I appreciate any help of advice, and hope some of this useful to others.
