42pj350 no picture has sound.

Vs = 205V
Va = 65
Vsc = 145V
Vzb = 110
Vy = 195


Shorted EXT AUTO GEN on the control board. Still no picture.

Any thoughts?

Johnboy had same symptoms and was control board. Is there a test for this I can do?

Did you disconnect the lvds cable?

Yes disconnected. No light on ctrl board

Almost certainly control board fault.
You can check to make sure that the contol board is getting voltage.

Common issue on these is the Ymain and Xmain failing, however when these do fail the tv wont start at all. I agree with Hamie sounds like a Tcon fault.

They are pretty well made Tvs imo.

Picture is good however the reliability of them isnt too good repaired 3 Ymains and Xmains out of these with the same failures.

I have the same issue, sound no picture. Responds to remote control. Shorted ext_auto_gen and I get clear test patterns.
Not sure what voltages are supposed to be for VS, VA AND VSC?
All fuses are working. This happened after a storm when the phone line appeared to have a power surge (lightening strike). Tv was connected to a PS3 in turn connected to our ADSL line. Yep, the PS3 and modem are also dead.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your prompt reply however, can you advise how to test or repair the motherboard or should i just buy a new one.

Also, tested all voltages (VS, VA, VSC, VZB, VY) and appear to be all within 1or 2 volts.

Just read many posts related to this TV and mine was like:
Sound and everything works but no image. Voltages on the panel are correct and 15V has 18V ok. Looking for the control board and the led don't light up, so with the set working, i tried to put some pressure in control board XD IC and suddenly the led on ctrl board started blinking and image appeared. I must assume this is a ctrl board with bad XD IC bga joints and it should be replaced.
This is only another testemonial to confirm that when you have all voltages and no image it must be ctrl board fault.
