So, I found this board two weeks ago to fix my LG 60PV450 Plasma. As it got more and more complicated (and I heard more and more complaints about watching TV on computer monitor) I got desperate.
I had wanted a Panasonic 4K TV since they are only ones with DisplayPort. I ordered one from a guy on Amazon in Florida. Was a bait and switch, tried to sell me a 50" something else. Then I found We-are-deals on Ebay. Seems to be a place for Panasonic to unload leftovers and refurbs.
Tried to ask them questions, they indicated it had a 1 year warranty from Panasonic. So I ordered. It was sent via AM Trucking from Brooklyn to me in LA. Took a week or so. I got an email last Friday that it would be delivered on Monday between 11 AM and 3PM.
I was excited, especially since all of my efforts to bring the LG back to life had only resulted in sparks and blurry images. The email had said I would get a call 30 minutes before delivery. And indeed someone called and said they were 30 minutes away.
From here it goes downhill. The guy called in 30-40 minutes and asked for the "gate code", I told him he just had to call from the call box. He was confused since he said I lived in a Gated Community where he was at front gate. I wish I did, I actually live in a regular sort of apartment with a call box on front of building. He acted very confused and got off phone quickly. Called again in half an hour, this time said he was in alley behind my building.
I went out and met him, good thing about alley is it leads right into garage which leads right to elevator. From front door you have to go up 3 stairs to get to the elevator. I was surprised to see a single guy standing by the giant box, already out of truck. I had to help him get it on a small 4 wheel furniture dolly. Was a bit of a hassle to get it in elevator, stand up on one end, flip back down, etc
I kept wondering what he would have done if I had been a little old lady or in a wheelchair. He told me he had a partner who was helping another customer and he had to move the truck out of alley then he lost his buddy. I noticed he never called or was called by this alleged other person.
Got it up to my unit, he said I had to sign for a "power on" test. Took box apart enough to plug in power. Screen came up nice and bright, I was looking for giant cracks and or black areas, striped areas, etc I have seen pix of bad LCDs before. He lifted right side out of box so I could see to bottom corner but then had a great deal of trouble getting it to go back down. Took 3 or 4 tries before it went back down. We did the same on left side, seemed fine. I signed and had to walk him out and click him out of garage. Still no sign of 2nd guy, or ringing from his cell phone.
Had stuff to do all day, but finally later that night I got the stand set up and had someone help me get the unit set into it. I fired it up and started flipping through manual. Slowly I realized that one of the little blue dots on Menu screen never went away. In fact, the screen has a small 1/2" crack that leads to a round 1" circle of blue in lower right corner. Blended in perfectly with the default screen. I NEVER would have signed or accepted if I had seen it. On a light colored background it is easy to see.
So I contacted the Ebay seller, they told me it is now a Panasonic Warranty issue. I'm about 99% certain Panasonic is going to say it is shipping or installing damage. I asked the guy who helped me put it in the stand if he thought we could have done anything to tweak it. He agreed that there was never even a tiny impact or twist. I went ahead and sent an email request to Panasonic but I also informed We-are-Deals that I intend to file a claim. I have always found EBay and Paypal to be very Pro-buyer. I'm pretty sure they won't give a damn about any signed "power on" paper from a truck company.
However, the concept of packing this behemoth back into it's box and then somehow getting a freight company to come get it is rather daunting. I may have to rent a truck and take it to a dock, in any case I will have to pay for it. Likely going to be $150-200, or more.
Since this flaw is way down low I have noticed that I only see it if I look. But I don't see myself being happy long term accepting this. Plus, I think it's possible that it will get worse with time. Would be great if it was a manufacturing issue and Panasonic would replace, I just don't see it.
So, I am curious of a few things.
Does anyone know why the flaw is such a perfect circle with blue "blood" pouring down?
Has anyone dealt with a similar issue with this We-Are-Deals company or AM trucking company?
Any solid advice from experience would be nice. The idea that I may have bought a $2,300 piece of garbage is bothersome. Was an awful moment when I realized what it was.
On the plus side, I finally got the LG Plasma working, so when I get this poor thing shipped off I won't have to go back to a computer monitor to watch TV.
I'm pretty sure that AM Trucking shorted the labor. No way 1 guy could manhandle that thing safely, likely was dropped/flipped, etc to get off truck. I was down there 2-3 minutes after he called and it was already on ground and truck buttoned up, so he got it out before he called me. Likely damage occurred then.
When you look at pictures, the image with little blue dots in lower right was the screen I judged TV to be "OK" with. Amazing how the world has conspired to fxxk me, pretty much invisible there, especially when you aren't familiar with the image.
