Panasonic TC-65AX800U screen crack on delivery

So, I found this board two weeks ago to fix my LG 60PV450 Plasma. As it got more and more complicated (and I heard more and more complaints about watching TV on computer monitor) I got desperate.

I had wanted a Panasonic 4K TV since they are only ones with DisplayPort. I ordered one from a guy on Amazon in Florida. Was a bait and switch, tried to sell me a 50" something else. Then I found We-are-deals on Ebay. Seems to be a place for Panasonic to unload leftovers and refurbs.

Tried to ask them questions, they indicated it had a 1 year warranty from Panasonic. So I ordered. It was sent via AM Trucking from Brooklyn to me in LA. Took a week or so. I got an email last Friday that it would be delivered on Monday between 11 AM and 3PM.

I was excited, especially since all of my efforts to bring the LG back to life had only resulted in sparks and blurry images. The email had said I would get a call 30 minutes before delivery. And indeed someone called and said they were 30 minutes away.

From here it goes downhill. The guy called in 30-40 minutes and asked for the "gate code", I told him he just had to call from the call box. He was confused since he said I lived in a Gated Community where he was at front gate. I wish I did, I actually live in a regular sort of apartment with a call box on front of building. He acted very confused and got off phone quickly. Called again in half an hour, this time said he was in alley behind my building.

I went out and met him, good thing about alley is it leads right into garage which leads right to elevator. From front door you have to go up 3 stairs to get to the elevator. I was surprised to see a single guy standing by the giant box, already out of truck. I had to help him get it on a small 4 wheel furniture dolly. Was a bit of a hassle to get it in elevator, stand up on one end, flip back down, etc

I kept wondering what he would have done if I had been a little old lady or in a wheelchair. He told me he had a partner who was helping another customer and he had to move the truck out of alley then he lost his buddy. I noticed he never called or was called by this alleged other person.

Got it up to my unit, he said I had to sign for a "power on" test. Took box apart enough to plug in power. Screen came up nice and bright, I was looking for giant cracks and or black areas, striped areas, etc I have seen pix of bad LCDs before. He lifted right side out of box so I could see to bottom corner but then had a great deal of trouble getting it to go back down. Took 3 or 4 tries before it went back down. We did the same on left side, seemed fine. I signed and had to walk him out and click him out of garage. Still no sign of 2nd guy, or ringing from his cell phone.

Had stuff to do all day, but finally later that night I got the stand set up and had someone help me get the unit set into it. I fired it up and started flipping through manual. Slowly I realized that one of the little blue dots on Menu screen never went away. In fact, the screen has a small 1/2" crack that leads to a round 1" circle of blue in lower right corner. Blended in perfectly with the default screen. I NEVER would have signed or accepted if I had seen it. On a light colored background it is easy to see.

So I contacted the Ebay seller, they told me it is now a Panasonic Warranty issue. I'm about 99% certain Panasonic is going to say it is shipping or installing damage. I asked the guy who helped me put it in the stand if he thought we could have done anything to tweak it. He agreed that there was never even a tiny impact or twist. I went ahead and sent an email request to Panasonic but I also informed We-are-Deals that I intend to file a claim. I have always found EBay and Paypal to be very Pro-buyer. I'm pretty sure they won't give a damn about any signed "power on" paper from a truck company.

However, the concept of packing this behemoth back into it's box and then somehow getting a freight company to come get it is rather daunting. I may have to rent a truck and take it to a dock, in any case I will have to pay for it. Likely going to be $150-200, or more.

Since this flaw is way down low I have noticed that I only see it if I look. But I don't see myself being happy long term accepting this. Plus, I think it's possible that it will get worse with time. Would be great if it was a manufacturing issue and Panasonic would replace, I just don't see it.

So, I am curious of a few things.

Does anyone know why the flaw is such a perfect circle with blue "blood" pouring down?

Has anyone dealt with a similar issue with this We-Are-Deals company or AM trucking company?

Any solid advice from experience would be nice. The idea that I may have bought a $2,300 piece of garbage is bothersome. Was an awful moment when I realized what it was.

On the plus side, I finally got the LG Plasma working, so when I get this poor thing shipped off I won't have to go back to a computer monitor to watch TV.

I'm pretty sure that AM Trucking shorted the labor. No way 1 guy could manhandle that thing safely, likely was dropped/flipped, etc to get off truck. I was down there 2-3 minutes after he called and it was already on ground and truck buttoned up, so he got it out before he called me. Likely damage occurred then.

When you look at pictures, the image with little blue dots in lower right was the screen I judged TV to be "OK" with. Amazing how the world has conspired to fxxk me, pretty much invisible there, especially when you aren't familiar with the image.

Thats a real shame. It looks like that the lcd took alot of pressure on 1 area. ( like a vinger ).

I dont think it will get worse over time......
Did you contact Ebay? "Received item thats not working"

        Plot thickens.

        We-Are-Deals sent this through Ebay:

"Please contact Panasonic as there warranty is supposed to cover this issue in either case. If your still not satisfied please contact us again."

So I did, and Panasonic says that NOTHING sold on Ebay carries a warranty of any sort from them. I even linked the support chat guy to the we-are-deals.com website and asked specifically if they were an authorized dealer. "no" was the answer.

Silly me paid an extra $300 for the TV as it claimed a full 1 year warranty versus the 90 days on the "refurb" version.

Panasonic says nothing bought on Ebay or from We-Are-Deals has a warranty at all:

Jodene C: Welcome to Panasonic Support
Jodene C: Thank you for contacting Panasonic. How may I assist you today?
You: Hi, I bought this TV from We-Are-Deals on Ebay. They apparently sell unwanted stock of yours. It has a screen flaw and they claim your warranty will cover.
Jodene C: I apologize for the issue you are having with your unit. I would be more than happy to assist.
Jodene C: As Ebay is not an authorized dealer of Panasonic, products purchased on the site are not covered under the manufacturer's warranty.
You: Here is what they said"Please contact Panasonic as there warranty is supposed to cover this issue in either case. "
You: They have 1000s of your items, are you sure they don't work for you?
Jodene C: Items purchased on Ebay are not covered under warranty.
You: So, no warranty at all?
        Jodene C: That is correct.
You: OK, I will return it to them
Jodene C: Okay. Is there anything further I can assist with at this time?
You: You should investigate them, they are selling your products and claiming full warranty coverage, based in Brooklyn. They also have a website
        You: http://we-are-deals.com
Jodene C: Thank you for sharing your feedback.
You: They claim they are selling for you, is that not true?
Jodene C: Ebay is not an authorized dealer.
You: I know that, is the website we-are-deals an authorized dealer?
        Jodene C: No.
Jodene C: Okay. Is there anything further I can assist with at this time?
Jodene C: Thank you for chatting with Panasonic. Have a nice day!

So, I filed a claim on Ebay. Included pix of TV and of the chat Window.

        Another headache.

Sad thing is I love the TV, other then the glaring birth defect.

I do not see anything on WE ARE DEAL site to indicate they are Authorized seller for PANASONIC.
"At We Are Deals we offer our customers a full line of Factory Refurbished merchandise at hugely discounted prices. Our products are refurbished by Panasonic Company, all accessories are included and is covered by Panasonic Company for 90 days." I wonder if it is really true that the products are refurbished by PANASONIC.

Re: Panasonic TC-65AX800U screen crack on delivery

They have since written me through Ebay that they are in fact Mason Camera and have a 40 year relationship with Panasonic. I wrote back that I didn't care about what they said< i wanted the perfect TV I paid for. I also stated that i didn't think it was my job to file a warranty claim for a new TV. Shortly after that I heard from someone from We-are-deals on the phone, wanting SN for TV to file the warranty claim.

Today I heard form Mark from NPR or PNR on the phone, said he does warranty service for Panasonic. He is coming by tomorrow to take pix so they can decide whop pays. I asked him if a crack on edge of display would typically be considered shipping damage and NOT a manufacturing detail, he agreed but said the process needs to happen.

When the guy called from we-are-deals he said that one way or the other I would be happy. He mentioned having TV picked up as I had threatened to just find a freight shipped and have it appear on his doorstep. So, he said I would be happy. It stinks that someone is going to eat $2000 and this beautiful TV panel is junk, but it wasn't me that broke it.

Will update when I know more.

Re: Panasonic TC-65AX800U screen crack on delivery

So, wanted to wrap this up.

I got a few calls from a manager/owner named "Sal", he was quite sad that he had to eat a dead TV since I didn't notice the crack on delivery. Told him I didn't want to get refund, I would settle for a perfect TV. He got a little happier.

Then I pointed out that the base weighs 40lbs and that we could both make life easier by me keeping everything but TV. Would save 40lbs coming here, and going back.

He agreed, and I suggested that he have AM trucking wait to pick up bad one so that they just had to send truck here once. (I also insisted that they send 2 grown men to move the monster) We agreed on this and I waited to hear from AM Trucking. What a bunch of buffoons.

They called a few days later and said they wanted to come pick up. I asked if they had my replacement, of course not. The driver agreed it was silly to send truck twice in a week, so they waited until TV arrived. A few days later I got a call, they wanted to deliver it between 6 and 10 AM following day. Ugh, that's early but I wanted to be done.

At 5:30 I got the phone call. Different truck with 2 guys this time. And instead of the single guy and 4 wheel furniture dolly, these 2 guys had the TV already strapped to a proper appliance dolly. So, a lot less flopping and banging.

Surprise, surprise, 2 guys with proper equipment and the TV was perfect !

They were surprised that they were picking up the cracked one, but a quick call to their office and they discovered I was right. Away it went. Took awhile to finally break down the box, I had that giant thing in dining room for weeks.

TV is great, I am convinced that We-Are-Deals meant it when they said they would make me happy.

The TV box weighed 160lbs complete, losing the base saved 40 lbs, making it more manageable.

The circus clowns at AM Trucking completed my impressions of them by calling me a few days later, asking if they could come pick up the TV that they had already picked up. I had printed 4 copies of the shipping tags and taped them over the former ones, so there is no excuse for nobody having scanned it and realizing it was already half way back to NY.

I calmly explained to the lady on the phone that her company really needed to improve their communications and service. She didn't disagree.

The Panny is an awesome TV. Love it, was a lot of bother but now I am glad.
