Toshiba 32av500u bottom 2/3's of screen black

I have a 32" Toshiba 32av500u that has an obvious display issue. The top third of the screen is normal and displays picture and menus normally while the bottom is black. If I have no input set and just pull up the menu, as the menu sits on the screen color tends to "bleed" down through the bottom of the screen.

I acquired a used tcon board and swapped it out only to get a series of awful vertical lines and distorted menu. Putting my original tcon board back in and got back to the top third of the screen works but the bottom is black.

Anyone have this problem in the past? Bad TCON, main board or screen?

We've got a 37av500u and I am almost positive they share the same tcon board. If I have time, I'll pull that board and swap them thus eliminating one piece of the puzzle.

This would unfortunately be an LCD panel issue.

Whats your thoughts on the vertical lines in general? I have a vizio that is full screen of rainbow vertical lines and a philips that is half screen of black or vertical lines and the other side is solarized?

Vizio full screen can be a T-con failure but is most likely panel.
          Philips is definitely panel.
          (Assuming both are LCDs)
